Broken Again
Kanan stood at the front of the room with Hera, briefing the rebels about the next mission. Himself, Ahsoka, Ezra, Rex and Roxy were to go to Malachor, why Roxy didn't know, she wasn't really paying attention, it was Jedi stuff, not shooting stuff. Benjamin was sat beside her, waiting to find out what he'd be doing.
"Alright, you have your orders, now let's get ready, we leave tonight." He finished. "What about me?" Benjamin asked, "You'll be going with Hera and Sabine to get supplies from a neighboring rebel camp."
Benjamin slumped, "Are you sure he can't come with? Let's be real, Hera and Sabine don't need extra protection." Roxy interjected, "Look, this is a very important mission and we don't need many people, and it's extremely dangerous. If anything happens to one of us, we still need a good sharp shooter." said Kanan.
Was that a compliment?
Benjamin sighed but nodded, looking to Roxy, who simply gave him a sad smile. They walked out, going to ready their separate ships. "I don't like the idea of not being with you on this mission..." Benjamin voiced, "Hey, I'm sure it's not as bad as Kanan says, besides, I have Rex and Ahsoka. We were without each other for over thirty years, a few days isn't going to hurt us." she replied. If Roxy were being honest, she had a bad feeling about this mission, she wasn't sure why. She had heard about Malachor from Master Yoda many years ago, he said it was a dark place, hellish and cruel.
She put that behind her, and grabbed her lover's hands in her own. "It'll be ok, I'll be fine, and I'll return to you, my love."
Benjamin felt his heart skip a beat, being able to be so open with the other out of secrecy was still new but he liked it. He nodded and kissed her.
"I gotta get the ship ready, I'll see you before I go." She said and walked off towards the phantom. Benny sighed and went over to Sabine, and helped her get the empty crates loaded. By the time the ships were prepared for flight, it was time to leave. Kanan was with Hera, Rex and Ahsoka watched as Roxy said goodbye to Benjamin.
"It shouldn't be more than a week, and I'll be back."
"I still don't like this, I wanna go with you. If something happens I gotta be there to save your skin, again." He joked at the last bit. Roxy punched him, "Please, I've saved you more times, and plus I'll be fine! I have my brother and Ahsoka. It's going to be fine. I'll come back completely unscathed." She reached a hand to cup his cheek. Benjamin leaned into her touch, relishing in the warmth of her worn and calloused hand.
"I love you."
"I love you too, Benji. See you in a while." She said, backing away and watching his face. She turned to leave after a sad smile, and shut the door behind her and the others. The first few days went without a hitch, then finally the planet was in view. "What's here that we need exactly?" Roxy asked, "Not sure, but that vision I had of Master Yoda was important. I trust him." said Kanan.
"There must be something here to help us stop those inquisitors!" Ezra said, "Knowledge." replied Ahsoka. Roxy and Rex exchanged a look, Jedi stuff. They shrugged and watched as Kanan entered the atmosphere. Chopper said something about another ship and began tracking it. Once they landed, they saw a bunch of, almost pillar like rocks, with old tongue engraved into them. Ahsoka tried to read it, but Ezra reached out to touch it, causing a bright red light to glow from it, cracking the ground below, plunging them into a hole.
"Ow." Roxy said, rubbing her side as she stood up, only to be met with a large dark pyramid. 'What is that?"
"A Sith temple." Ahsoka replied darkly. "I've got a bad feeling about this." said Roxy.
They walked around, trying to find an entrance, eventually Ezra got separated. They needed to find the source of the knowledge.
Roxy and the others were ambushed by three inquisitors. "Oh great." Mumbled Roxy, pulling out her blasters, Rex doing the same. Ezra walked out from a door, with...someone behind him.
"I have someone who can help!" exclaimed Ezra, "Maul." said Ahsoka, Roxy and Rex's eyes went wide. "Why can't you just stay dead, you bastard." Roxy seethed. "We can trust him." said Ezra, "Perhaps actions will speak louder than words.." said Maul, igniting his saber.
They scared the inquisitors off, and Maul began explaining why he wanted the same thing, to unlock the source of the holocron, to take down the one they call Vader.
Vader. The name rung in Roxy's head.
They split up, Maul took Ezra to the top of the pyramid.
Ezra took the holocron and placed it between two pointed pillars. It lit up, red and sparks flew from them. Ahsoka, Rex and Roxy were fighting Maul. Just like old times. The temple was lit up, and everything else was dark. Kanan had been injured and put on an old jedi guard mask.
"Go get Ezra!" He shouted to them, and they took off.
It was too late, they reached the top, and there stood Vader, towering over Ezra. "Perhaps I was wrong"
"It wouldn't be the first time." Ahsoka said, making an entrance. "It was foretold you would be here. Our long awaited meeting at last." Said Vader, "I'm glad I gave you something to look forward to."
"We need not be advisaries. The Emperor will show you mercy. If you tell me where the remaining Jedi can be found."
"There are no Jedi!"
"Perhaps this child will confess what you will not. "
"I was beginning to believe I knew who you were behind that mask. But it's impossible. My Master could never be as vile as you!"
Roxy and Rex looked to each other, their hearts sinking. General Skywalker?
"Anakin Skywalker was weak. I destroyed him."
"Then I will avenge his death." Ahsoka seethed. "revenge is not the Jedi way..." said Vader.
"I am no Jedi." Ahsoka ignited her lightsabers and so did Vader, and the duel began. Roxy and Rex began shooting, trying to aide Ahsoka as they could. White and Red clashed, making sparks.
Ezra and Kanan were trying to take the holocron out, to stop the weapon. Roxy and Rex followed as Ahsoka and Vader fought, not leaving her side, shooting and dodging as bullets were swiped back. Ahsoka faltered for a moment, and Vader pushed her off the edge. "Ahsoka!" Rex screamed as he ran forward, Vader lifted him with the force and threw him into a wall, "Oi, bucket head! You messed with the wrong clone..." Roxy yelled, shooting at him from where she stood.
Vader used the force and grabbed her, pulling her right to him, his saber at her throat. A bullet was shot and hit Vaders arm, his saber moving and going to Roxy's left eye. She screamed in pain as she was dropped, Rex pulled her back, trying to retreat to Kanan and Ezra. They had removed the holocron, but Vader was right on their tail.
He used the force to pull at the holocron that Ezra held, Kanan holding onto him. Ahsoka ran up from behind and struck at Vader's helmet. He fell.
"Ahsoka hurry!" yelled Ezra.
"Ahsoka." a vocie came from behind, her eyes went wide. Rex and Roxy watched, as Vader stood. Roxy's eyesight was fuzzy, but she could still make it out. He turned, and it was him.
"Anakin."
Rex stumbled, his General, a friend. Had become this. Roxy was horrified, she clutched her left eye in pain, but still held a blaster to him. Ezra helped Kanan to the ship, he looked back and saw the two clones and the ex-Jedi, standing against Darth Vader.
"I won't leave you. Not this time." Said Ahsoka. Anakin...Vader...seemed to falter for a moment.
"Then you will die." His red lightsaber ignited, the temple beginning to crumble around them.
Ezra tried to run to them, but Ahsoka force pushed him back, the door closing on them. They had nowhere to run. It was the two soldiers and the padawan, against the Master. The fight began again. Red clashing with white, blue bullets blurring, everything was blurring together to Roxy, it was hard to see. Ezra and Kanan flew off in the Phantom.
The temple was collapsing around them, rubble fell atop the three when the temple came down on them. Vader left.
Everything was dark when Roxy opened her eyes...eye? She pushed some rubble from on top of her, and began to panic. "Rex!? Ahsoka!?" she screamed, it was so dark she could barely see her hand. She saw a white light. Ahsoka's lightsaber! She ran to the light, and began pulling rubble off her friend, "Ahsoka!" she cried, and helped her up. Ahsoka's left lekku was burnt and cut at the bottom.
"Where's Rex?" She asked, the began digging. "Rex!? Rex!"
They heard a groan, and went to it, they pulled chunks off of him, he was unconscious and barely breathing. "Rex? C'mon Rex you have to be okay.." Ahsoka trailed off, Roxy held back a cry, she was almost sobbing.
"Rex...please. I can't lose you, not again. Please." she cried, her tears falling onto his face. "I'm not ready to say goodbye. I need to brother." She said, shaking him lightly. His light brown eyes opened slowly.
He reached his hand up and wiped her tears. Roxy and Ahsoka let out a cry of relief and helped him up. They looked at the rubble that surrounded them. "What do we do now?" Roxy asked, "Does any...have a working comm?" asked Rex, they all checked.
"Benjamin, do you copy? Ben. Ben?" She kept trying, nothing. They moved to try to get to the surface of the planet. They found a crashed ship, by the looks of it, it had been there since the clone wars. "We'll take shelter here..." Rex said.
They sat down and breathed a sigh, how were they alive. They should be dead.
"Live to fight another day." The words rung in Roxy's head. Ahsoka placed a hand on Roxy's arm, she found some medical supplies and began bandaging her eye and around her head. They were all a bloody, bruised, broken mess.
Rex's arm was torn open, gashes on his face, Ahsoka's lekku were burnt and at one tip, broken. Her arms bruised and bloody. Roxy had blood dried in her hair, blood down her face, her eye probably gone and useless. She was pretty sure her ankle was fractured too.
She wanted to scream, cry, curse at the sky. She wanted to lash out. Anakin Skywalker, her General, Ahsoka's Master. Had become that.
Roxy heard a buzzing, and incoherent words. Her comm!
"R...Rox..hear me?..hel.." was all she heard.
"Benjamin! Benny! Can you hear me? Benny please?"
"Bad...connection....me?"
"Benjamin please, I need you. Please, we need help!" She sobbed.
"..."
"..."
Nothing. Roxy stood and went outside the ship, she let out the most anguished scream. It echoed for miles, across the whole planet it seemed. Rex grabbed her and held her tight.
"It wasn't s-supposed to happen like this. Rex I don't wanna die. I-I wanna be with him, I can't l-leave him I hate everything, I hate the world for doing this to us, I hate the empire, I hate the sepratists, I hate him!!" She screamed, sobbing into her brothers shoulder.
"Hey, hey. It's ok, we'll be ok. We'll find a way out of here. I promise." Rex said, hugging her tighter, and opening his arms for Ahsoka as well. The three stayed like that for a while.
After they gathered themselves, they began working on the ship together, Ahsoka took apart the control panel, Roxy was in the bowels of the ship, trying to un-seize the engine. Rex got the lights working again. After a few days, they managed to get the ship running! They had no supplies and were all weak, no water or food for days, blood loss.
Roxy got the ship in the air, it got to the point where she couldn't see straight anymore, so Rex took over flying and Ahsoka stayed with the barely conscious Roxy. She stroked her hair and held her hand, "You guys should have gone with the others..." Ahsoka said quietly. "No." Roxy said, barely a whisper. "You're our friend, we're a team. It's always...us...we need...each other..." Roxy said and finally sleep claimed her.
Roxy was in and out of consciousness throughout the days, the last couple days she barely woke up. Everything was dark. She heard voices, and felt herself being lifted.
When she finally opened her eye, she looked over and saw Ahsoka and Rex on either side of her, in white beds, they were asleep and being rehydrated, various machines hooked up to them. They were home, they were finally home. Or was this a cruel dream?
She saw a medical droid, "She's awake." she heard, and she saw someone trying to push past it. "She needs her rest, please, you can visit tomorrow." "You can fuck off!' The figure yelled, Benjamin.
He ran to her side, she smiled, he looked as if he hadn't slept in weeks. How long was she out?
"I should have gone with you, I should have been there, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." He began to cry into her stomach as he hugged her. "Hey, it's okay." she whispered out. "I'm here, we're all alive. That's all that matters."
He looked up at her, and kissed her, it was slow, passionate and needy.
"I love you so fucking much, and I'm not leaving your side." he told her, holding her face in his hands. "How long was I out?"
"Well, you got here about a week ago, so since then. They wouldn't let anyone in here."
"Have the others woken up at all?" she asked, "Yeah, they talked to Kanan and Ezra."
"How are Kanan and Ezra?" "Kanan is blind, Ezra's ok. What the hell happened there anyways?"
"Vader, you probably know him. He was...Anakin. My old General from the war. He's turned into a...a monster." Roxy seethed. Her hand went to her eye, it was still bandaged. "The eye is gone..." Benjamin answered her unasked question.
"They replaced it with a cybernetic eye, you'll still be able to see it's just not the same color." he added.
A few days later, she was let out of the med-bay. She took off the bandage from her eye, the light stung a bit, the left side of her face was scarred, her hair shaved from the surgery for her eye. She looked at herself in the mirror, she frowned, she blinked the eye a few times, it felt different. At least she could see.
The scar went from her hairline, to the middle of her cheek, her fingers grazed along it, it stung. Benjamin walked up behind her, "You okay?"
"Yeah. I'm alright." she replied, hand dropping to her side, she was so sore, she looked so...broken. "Rex and Ahsoka are waiting outside" Benajmin said, taking hold of her hand, he kissed it, Roxy smiled faintly, and walked to the door with him, they found Ahsoka and Rex talking with Wolffe and Gregor.
Wolffe gave a knowing smile when he saw Roxy, "Not bad kid, just like mine." he clapped her on the shoulder. "Let's go get something to eat, eh?" Rex offered, Roxy nodded, her hand tightening around Benny's. They went to the mess hall and ate some real food, finally. Roxy didn't feel right, knowing that her General was that monster, that he was alive and unscathed, while her and her family were broken again.
After they had eaten everyone went to their rooms, the missions were on a halt until Kanan was better, without his vision he had to hone his force skills. Benjamin helped Roxy into their bed and he held her tight, "Are you sure you're ok?"
"I will be, I'm just tired and everything seems hazy and wrong and like my world has been turned upside down. I just...I feel tired and broken. But I'll be okay.." She vented. Benjamin kissed her softly, and held her tighter.
"I've got you, and I won't let anything happen to you. Get some sleep, darling."
Roxy nodded, a small smile on her face, she slowly drifted off to sleep, ready for the nightmares to begin again. But knowing Benjamin was right there, she felt a little better.
