Breaking Some Rules

Dogma and you weren't the best of friends.  In fact, the word friends was stretching it out for the both of you. However, you found yourself as a junior mechanic, and to your dismay, you were assigned to none other than Dogma himself.

0700. Your alarm blared in your quiet quarters. You grumbled underneath your breath, cursing to yourself. After successfully dragging your body to the showers, you dressed and got ready to face the day.

"Your late, y/n. " Dogma grumbled from underneath a LAAT nose gun. "Bad morning to you too. It's not 8, I'm not late." You replied in a fed up voice, dropping a whole tool box dangerously close to the clones head.

"What's the matter with you!" He screamed, holding his ears. You simple shrugged and walked to the interior of the ship. It was your usual job to run internal diagnostics of the transport. You plugged in your datapad and began the diagnostic. Since it was going to take a while, you decided to have breakfast. You unwrapped your (favorite breakfast) and sat yourself comfortably on a crate.

You were a young 13 year old orphaned girl who worked with the GAR for a while now and became good friends with quiet a number of the clones, however, not all of them welcomed you with open arms. One in particular happened to be another mechanic. He's known as Derek.

You were just humming to yourself, minding your own business and enjoying your rather peaceful breakfast, when Derek decided to pick on you. He saw you on the crate and sneaked up quietly from behind. He activated the anti-grav of the crate. Before you could take another bite of your breakfast, you found yourself falling of a now slightly levitating crate. "Ow!" you shouted as your elbows hit the ground. Your breakfast fell in front of you, saved by its packaging.

A hand came into your view snatching your breakfast of the floor. You carried your head, only to come face to face to a smirking clone. "Derek." you spat. "Eyy short stuff, a little smile wouldn't hurt ya." he laughed, obviously humored by your predicament. You rolled your eyes and began to stand but Derek decided to slide his foot behind yours, making you trip once again. This time, you landed on your back.

"WOULD YOU STOP THAT!" you screamed out of frustration. "Just let me be!" you scolded. Derek was not shocked from your little retaliation, but he was not pleased that you told him to leave you alone. "Listen here kid" He called out lowly, walking towards you and cornering you against the side of the LAAT. "That, is not how you speak to your superior. Your just a measly little child looking for some worth in your life." You looked him in the eye, not wanting to back down, and he stared you down. You scowled and shoved him away from you.

Now, the hangar wasn't exactly empty, nor was it full of people. Only about three clones and a handful of other people were in the hangar carrying out their tasks. They knew that Derek was not one to mess with and you didn't want to drag them into your problem this early in the morning. He was a trouble maker, and most people to encounter the bully tend to not fight him back, you included. You shoved Derek away from you, strong enough to make him stumble. So, your shouts weren't loud enough to draw any attention. And besides, the LAAT was hiding you from the public view, so no one could really see what was going on.

His eyes widened in shock, but you stood up tall and looked him in the eye to make your point. "Don't threaten me." Derek scowled and balled a fist. You didn't pick  this up, and so you didn't think to prepare yourself for a possible fisticuffs.

-----

Dogma was still under the nose gun, muttering to himself. He placed a screw onto the nose gun and called out to you for a screwdriver. However, when you didn't reply, he called you again. " Y/n, I need the screw driver." When you didn't answer again, he suspected that you were ignoring him. Dogma was about to yell at you when he realized that you weren't there. "I swear, kids these days..." He grumbled.

He stood up from his spot to go look for you in the LAAT. " Y/n, I swear if your sleeping, I am going to report you to Captain Rex." He pocked his head into the transport only to find you not there. He called out your name again when he realized that you left your datapad you used to run the diagnostics on the floor. His brows knitted in concern. Your many things, a pain the his arse, definitely, but you had your moments where he was glad to have your company, although he never showed this emotions, since he didn't want to get to attached to you.

A straggled cry came from outside the ship. He quietly walked towards the exit of the LAAT and slowly peeked out of the transport. Then, he your current scene unfold in front of him. He saw you shoving Derek off. Derek fell back and Dogma noticed that as the other trooper began to walk towards you, he balled one of his fists, clearly wanting to harm you. As Derek pulled his hand back to deliver a punch to your face, Dogma ran in and stopped Derek's fist from colliding into your face.

----

You froze in place as Derek launched himself towards you. You squeezed your eyes shut as you braced yourself to receive the suckers punch. A second passed and you didn't feel Derek's fist on your face. Slowly, you opened your eyes, only to see another person's hand hold off Derek. Dogma pushed Derek back and took a protective step in front of you.

Derek pulled his fist back aggressively. "So, defending our little friend are we know." Derek snarled. Dogma didn't flinch but bluntly asked Derek to mind his own business, all the while you stayed behind Dogma. "Mind your own business!" Derek spat back. "If you hadn't realized, Derek, she's just a kid." "Yeah, a kid who I'd like to teach some manners." Derek said placing a hand to push Dogma away, but he didn't budge. Derek raised his head, feeling challenged.

Derek bumped his chest against Dogma and then used both of his hands to push Dogma away from you. He planned to deal with Dogma before dealing with you. "Dogma, you do know I'm superior. If you tell me to stop, you breaking the rules vod." Derek place a hand at each of Dogma's shoulders. Dogma lowered his head lightly. "Do you really want to be a rule breaker?"

Dogma just stared at his shoes, not showing and sign of anger. You watched as Dogma didn't fight back. For a moment, you thought someone would actually help you, and when Dogma stepped in, you actually felt safe. But, then again, you knew Dogma wouldn't go against his superiors. You watched as Derek turned around and walked towards you. You grabbed a tool from the ground to defend yourself with. "Don't. Touch. Me." you raised the tool, slowly backing away.

Suddenly, you saw Derek get pulled back and a fist collided with his face. You let out a gasp as you saw Derek fall to the hangar floor. Standing tall in front of you, his eyes fixated on Derek's form. Derek touched his left eye and he winced. Dogma was the quiet type, but he was hell of a fighter. "YOU! You punched me!" Derek screamed, his voice breaking a little. You were so invested in the scene, seeing your bully scream like a girl, that you let out a small snicker. Derek turned his head to you at the sound and began to stand to walk to you when he was forced to turn. Dogma met his fist to Derek's face again. This time, hard enough to cause a small tear beside Derek's lips.

"You punched a superior Dogma. I'll report you to the captain." Dogma was unphased. "If you ask me, sir, technically, I was defending a junior recruit from a bully. I don't see how THAT breaks the rules." Dogma starred Derek down. "I'll get you back for this Dogma. You hear me." Derek held a hand to his jaw before turning to walk off to who knows where.

You were still in shock from what happen, you didn't realize Dogma walk towards you until he laid a hand on your shoulder. "Huh?" You snapped your head to Dogma. Dogma's concerned eyes looked into yours "You okay?" He softly asked. "Uh..uh y-yeah. Fine. Just fine." Your eyes were blinking rapidly. Not that Derek ran like a coward, but that Dogma had helped you. Dogma drew in a breath and patted your shoulder before turning around to the LAAT, wordlessly.

"Why'd you help?" you asked, gripping tightly on your tool. "I helped because you, clearly, don't know how to fight." he sassed but immediately soften his eyes when he saw you looking a little disappointed. He sighed to himself. "Look, if I hadn't seen Derek bullying you in time, I'd be treating your black eye." You raised an eyebrow. Dogma brought his hands to his forehead and sighed again. " Derek may have been my superior, but its no excuse to bully someone lower ranking than himself."

You nodded and folded your arms, taking in what Dogma said. "But, like you said, Derek's your superior. Punching him was against the rules, right?" You asked quietly. Dogma looked at you and leaned against a nearby crate. "So?" "So.. your the by-the-book person." You raised both hand to wave over to him.

"Kid, listen. He is my superior, yes. But if he thinks he has the right to bully a junior recruit, he's technically disobeying rules." "Yeah, but punching a superior is also against the rules." You sassed. "Emphasis on against." you said again. Dogma fell quiet, and you suddenly felt a pang of regret bombarding his with questions. "Look, I, I didn't mean to talk back. I'm just surprised to stood up for me and I guess I wasn't really expecting-" "Expecting me to break the rules?" Dogma cut you off. He sighed and relaxed his posture.

" Y/n, I may be a strong believer in rules, but if the rules don't allow me to defend the bullied, then it would be wrong." Dogma let a small smile creep to his face and he looked to his feet. "Listen, I may have been harsh on you, and that is because I did not want to get attached to you. Your a pain in the arse kid, but you definitely  don't deserve to be bullied. Especially by that jerk." You snickered at the last sentence. "Thanks, sir. Truly." Dogma smiled at you. "And, I'm sorry I've been a pain in your arse. I'll try to turn it down a notch. But... you don't have to break the rules ya know, sir."

Dogma listened to you and he could tell that you were being genuine. Dogma pushed himself of the crate and walked towards you. "Kid" he said calling your attention gently. "I suppose breaking some rules are no harm." He said, raising a playful eyebrow at you. "And plus, someone's gotta watch you every know and then." You snorted. "I'm not that defenseless ya know sir." Dogma shook his head and chuckled. " Y/n, call me Dogma. And, your welcome." He smiled as he saw your eyes lighten and a wide grin was plastered on your face. "Thanks, Dogma." you smiled and ran in to hug him around slightly above his waist, since you were quite short.

Dogma was taken back by surprise, but eventually lightly hugged you back before you pulled away. "Yeah yeah, you welcome." He laughed lightly. "But don't get all sappy with me. Not in front of the guys anyway." You simply laughed happily and nodded. Dogma walked away from the LAAT "Come on kid. Let's get you some breakfast replacement." Dogma gestured you to join him. And thus, began a beautiful and unexpected bond called friendship between the trooper and yourself.
