Chapter 2- Negotiations

Darkness.

That was all the princess could see. She didn't know where she was. She didn't even know if she was alive. Then she saw a door open. Light spilled into the room, and she saw where she was. She appeared to be in the common room of a ship. She didn't remember how she got there. The last thing she remembered was how the boy had snuck up behind her and had shot her. Now that same boy was standing in front of her with his friends. His expression was sad, yet it had a hint of excitement to it as well as if he were happy to see her, to know she was okay.

Princess's POV

The people who kidnapped me walked into the room, and to be honest, I would have much rathered having to suffer through seeing my father's bludgeoned corpse again then have to see them. The boy who shot me was near the front a sad expression plastered on his copper-colored face. He seemed so familiar to me, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Just then a tall brunette man stepped forward, with his hair pulled back into a ponytail.

"Glad to see you're awake. My name is Kanan", he spoke.

"Listen, nitwit, I don't care who you are or what your name is. What I do care about is where I am and why I'm here", I retorted, not at all in the mood for games.

"I'd watch my mouth if I were you," one of them piped up. He was very tall, taller than the man in front of me. His skin had a brownish-purple hue to it, and his arms were massive. His eyes took up most of his face, and they almost seemed to glow as the light reflected off of them. I had no idea what he was.

"And what are you supposed to be," I asked the purple giant.

"I'm a lasat, you brat," he said back.

"Alright, that's enough! We should treat our guest with some respect. I mean, she is the heir to the throne of the only free system in the galaxy", Ponytail spoke up once more. "Now, princess here are your options. We know your the Emperor's ambassador, so you can either tell us what you about his plans for the outer rim, or you can let one of us make you. It's your choice."

I remained silent.

"Hard way it is, then," he turned to the others. "So, who wants to go first?"

Hera's POV

Sabine stepped forward almost immediately, and I noticed that Ezra's expression morphed from disappointment and sadness to pure rage and hatred. I'd have to talk to him about that later. Meanwhile, the princess looked terrified. We left the common room and went to the cockpit to monitor the interrogation on the ship surveillance system. Sabine was asking the princess basic things like her name, how old she was, where she was from, etc. But her next question was a shock to me.

"Do you know anyone named Ezra Bridger?", Sabine asked.

The princess looked down, remaining silent. Sabine then proceeded to slap her across the face.

"I asked you a question," she shouted.

"Zeb, go get Sabine before she kills her!", I said, worried for both the princess' safety and Sabine's sanity. We turned back to the screen to see Zeb dragging Sabine out of the room. Then the cockpit door opened.

"Why'd you pull me out," she asked, clearly aggravated.

"Maybe because you were going to kill her!", Ezra yelled at her.

"Why do you care?!", she yelled back.

"Enough!", I shouted at both of them. The cockpit fell silent once again.

"Kanan, you'll go talk to the princess next," I said. I then turned to Sabine and Ezra. " And as for you two, you will remain separate until this interrogation is over. Sabine, go to your room. Ezra, you'll stay here with me."

Sabine stormed off, and Kanan left to try to get what he could out of the princess.

Kanan POV

I entered the common room to see the princess' bloodied face; she looked miserable. I went to the cabinet and found the med kit. I then began to treat her wounds. At one point she had hissed in pain when I applied the disinfectant to the large gash she had on her cheek.

"Sorry," I said apologetically.

"It's not your fault that girl is a bitch," she said back, a bitter smile gracing her lips.

"Well she was just trying to get an answer," I told her, trying to defend Sabine. But I knew the girl in front of me was correct. Sabine didn't have to do what she did. "So about that question," I began.

"What about it," she retorted.

"Can I have an answer?", I asked calmly.

"I know someone named Ezra; I just don't remember his last name," she sighed.

"How do you know him?"

"He's my little brother," she told me. I was taken aback. If this was our Ezra she was talking about, then it explained so much. Why he freaked out when he heard about the mission, why he looked so upset when we first walked in, why he was angry at Sabine, it's because this girl sitting in front of me was his sister.

JK I'm not that mean.

"Someone else will be in soon," I said to her. And with that, I went back to the cockpit.

"I guess stubbornness runs in your family, Ezra," I regarded him as I sat down. He looked at me in shock, like he was afraid that I knew.

"I... I don't know what you're talking about", he replied.

"Don't play dumb, Ezra. She told me you were her brother."

"She did what?!", he screeched.

"Care to explain?", I asked.

"Not really, but I do care to go see my sister," he said, getting up.

"She's all yours," I said to him.

Ezra's POV

I walked into the common room to face with my sister, who appeared to be hurting a great deal, courtesy of my dear, sweet friend Sabine. I'll deal with her later. For right now I want to make sure she's ok.

"Hey Zera," I said to her, recalling what Mom used to call her, hoping she would remember me.

She looked up with fearful eyes, probably afraid that I was here to hurt her as well. But then they suddenly shone brightly with hope. "Ezzy? My little Ezzy is that you?", She asked quietly. I remember how when I was very young our mother would set up transmissions between my sister and me so that I least got the chance to see her. The nickname she had thought up annoyed me, to say the least, when I was young, but to hear her say it now makes me want to shout out in joy. "Yeah, it's me," I replied with a small smile. I observed her waiting for a response. Her eyes then went wide.

"What are you doing with them?"

"They got me out of a pretty bad situation a few months back and-"

"You joined their crew," she finished for me, a slight look of annoyance on her face.

"Yeah, and.... something else", I said, slightly anxious of how she would react to my next surprise.

"What?"

"I may or may not be kinda sorta.... force sensitive."

She looked shocked at first. Then she spoke.

"Well I suppose that would explain the saber on your hip," she said, nodding towards the weapon I had crafted.

"Yeah, I'm proud of it. I made it myself."

"Is that so?"

"Yeah"

"Well, how about you show what it can do and get me out of these ropes," she shifted in her restraints as if gesturing at them. I nodded and grabbed my saber. I powered it on, the blue plasma blade illuminating the dimly lit room. I brought it down near her wrists and slashed the ropes, careful not to cut her in the process. When they were off, she rubbed her wrists and sighed. Then she did something I hadn't expected. She punched me in the arm. Hard. I clutched my arm in pain; I could already feel a bruise forming.

"What the hell was that for?!", I shouted.

"Don't give me that! Why didn't you come home?!", she fired back.

"What are you talking about?"

"With Mother, why didn't you come back?"

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"Didn't she come for you?", she looked confused.

"What do you mean? Mom and Dad got arrested when I was seven and-"

"Yes, yes I'm well aware of all that. But Mother was released, on account of her status, so she had been looking for you before she left for Cloud City. Why didn't you leave with her?"

"Well, after the Imps took them away I left the house to try and stay away from them as much as possible. Guess she lost hope when she couldn't find me and left."

"Oh Ezzy," she looked at me, eyes glossing over.

"What about Dad? Do you know anything about him?" I asked, some small piece of me hoping she would.

"Ezra, I'll be blunt, I have no know idea where your father is, but I do know that our mother is gone."

"What do you mean gone?" I asked, already assuming the worst.

"I'm not going to explain everything yet Ezra, my heart can't take it right now, but Mom passed away five years ago" she answered, tears rolling down her face.

My heart stopped. My mother, the one used to sing me to sleep every night, who used to captivate me with wild stories of bizarre creatures and daring warriors from far-off worlds, the one who used cradle me and kiss me and tell me everything was alright when nothing seemed to be, was dead. The shock hit me like a meteor. The dam broke. Tears found their way out of my eyes and began racing down my cheeks, like an endless waterfall that never stops flowing. I ran over to Zera. She pulled me into a tight hug and wouldn't let go. I felt her tears hitting my shoulder as we cried. I wished it wasn't right. It couldn't be true. "Please, Zera, tell me it's not true," I sobbed out. "I'm so sorry, Ezra," she said between breaths. Then we heard the door open, and a gasp that followed.

Sabine's POV

As I sat in my room, bored out of my mind, I started to think about what had happened with Ezra. Slowly but surely, guilt was beginning to creep its way into my brain, and I began to regret yelling at him. I decided to go to the cockpit and try to set thing straight. the doors hissed open, but Ezra wasn't there.

"Kanan, where's Ezra?", I asked.

"He's in the common room with our guest. We decided to turn off the cameras for now"

"Alright, thanks", I sighed. I walk down the hall towards the common room, trying to think of a way to apologize to Ezra. I hesitated a moment before I opened the door. To say I regretted it would be an understatement. There was Ezra and that little brat, crying in each other's arms. I gasped at the sight, and they quickly looked in my direction. Ezra stood up and looked at me, a slightly annoyed expression painting his features. "What do you want, Sabine?"

"Well, I was gonna come apologize, but you seem to be busy?", I laughed dryly, my tone bitter and laced with venom.

"Knock it off", he growled.

"Ezzy, stop it", the princess chided.

"Stay out of this", I snapped at her.

"Leave her alone"

"Oh come on", I scoffed at him. "You don't know this girl Ezra, so why the hell are you being so goddamn defensive of her?!"

"Because she's my fucking sister!!", he finally snapped, a fresh batch a tears finding their way down his cheeks.

"....what?", I breathed out, wondering if I heard him correctly.

"I'm Ezra's older sister", she began. "Our mother was married to my father first. She loved him more than anything. My grandmother told me so many stories about them before she left. My father had provided his services as a commanding officer during the clone wars, but the Jedi knight in his squadron struck him down when they had disagreed about what to do with the troops when it seemed they might have been compromised. She had been next in line for the throne, but after he died, she couldn't take staying there. Grandmother said it was because she didn't think she was strong enough to continue on where she had so many happy memories with her husband. I wasn't even a year old when she left. she left me there, she abandoned her responsibilities as crown princess, as a mother, but as I got older, I understood why she did. she didn't want her child to have a mother figure that couldn't happy when they needed her to be. So, she went to Lothal, and she met Ezra's father. I was two when he was born. Mom would sent up transmissions so we could still stay in contact, and I got to meet him. A few years later mom contact Grandmother and I. She said they weren't safe there anymore, that if they were caught, she would do her best t get out, grab Ezra and head to Cloud City, before making their way back to Bith to be with us. I remember being so excited when I heard that, I was excited to finally be able to hold my baby brother", she took a pause, wiping the tears that were freely flowing down the sides of her face and smiling sadly. "But she never came. The next time we spoke she said she was staying there, she met someone who she thought loved her. Tha-"

"Who did she meet?", Ezra cut her off.

"Some slimy, bastard urchin named Lando Calrissian", she replied, disgusted.

"What?!", we shouted in unison.

"Yes, and needless to say, it was not what she thought it was. She really loved him, I could see it her eyes, but he didn't her as anything more than an object, just a doll for him to toy around with. It wasn't long before the bruises started appearing when we would talk. After a couple of years the calls stopped coming in. The contact I ever had with my mother was a letter that I had received on my thirteenth birthday. It-", she was interrupted by her own sobs, "It was a suicide note. She admitted that Lando had abused her, both physically and mentally. He broke her down until she was just an empty shell of a person. She apologized for leaving me behind and not keeping her promise. For not keeping you safe, Ezzy. I broke down when read that letter. I wouldn't eat, I couldn't sleep, I refused to talk to anyone. I was so scared that I was going to lose everyone close to me, I s-still am and I-I-I-", she was beginning to hyperventilate, shaken with having to relive those awful memories. Ezra pulled her into his arms, trying to help her calm down. He looked at me pleadingly, and I understood what he was asking. I quietly left for the cockpit, hopeful that Kanan ad Hera would have some idea of what to do.

"Hey, guys, could you come to the common room with me?", I asked, somewhat anxious for their response.

"Sure we can. Is everything alright, are you ok?", Hera asked worriedly.

"Yeah, I'm fine, but, the princess...", I trailed off.

We entered the room to a still hysteric Zera in Ezra's arms, him whispering soothing words to her. Hera's eyes widened and she rushed forward, her maternal instincts kicking in.

Hera's POV (finally right)

I rushed to the siblings that had taken their place on the floor. I took Ezra's position, holding the broken, sobbing girl close to my body, her head tucked gently in the crook of my neck.

"Shh sh, it alright sweetheart, just let it out", I whisper to her as she continued to sob uncontrollably. "Honey, you need to try and calm down, ok? Try to match my breathing"

I felt her nod as she attempted to calm her breathing. We stayed that way for a few minutes longer, before her cries had been reduced to soft sniffles and the occasional hiccup.

Kanan kneeled in front of her,"Look, I know what we said before, but we aren't gonna make you choose what you're going to do. We won't put any pressure on y-"

"I'll do it", she said shakily, "I'll help you"
