BB-9E

BB-9E looked out at the stormtroopers and officers rushing down the dark hallway. A small cleaning droid caught her attention, there was something different about it. As she peered through the cracks in the black metal, she could see the faintest traces of orange and white. Such bright colors were never used on First Order droids.
She looked at the officers who accompanied the droid. She immediately recognized the former stormtrooper, now traitor to the First Order: FN-2187 from her databank.
The Resistance, they had snuck aboard. And if they were really Resistance fighters, then the little droid must be the one that everyone was talking about. The droid who had the map to Luke Skywalker, the droid who stole a freighter on Jakku and managed to escape Kylo Ren. Despite herself, BB-9E found herself admiring the droid, she only wished that she could possess such courage and free will.
Even so, she had to report the group to the authorities. Without a second thought, she turned quickly to notify one of her masters of the intruders.

BB-9E stood waiting with a group of stormtroopers and officers for the Resistance fighters.
Within moments the door opened to reveal FN-2187, the young girl and their companion. BB-9E looked for the little orange and white droid, but he wasn't with them. She knew that she should say something to one of the officers, but surely she could handle one little BB unit on her own. He may be brave, but he was still no match for her.
As the stormtroopers were busy restraining the Resistance fighters, BB-9E slipped past to look for the rogue droid. She hurried down the hallway and turned down a corridor to the right, only to roll right into the little droid.
He shrilled in alarm at her sudden appearance.
"Come with me," she ordered, sternly in a series of beeps.
"No," he beeped back. "I have to get back to Poe, my master, no matter the costs."
"What if the cost is death?"
"I would die for him if I had to." BB-8 replied.
BB-9E scoffed. "I doubt that he would do the same for you."
"He has risked his own life countless times to save me." He answered. "He loves me. Doesn't your master love you?"
"No," she answered sadly. "Humans don't think that droids can feel anything, including love, but some of us can."
"Come with me. Poe is a good master, as are the rest of the Resistance fighters. You don't have to be alone."
BB-9E knew that she should turn him in, but if she did he would never see Poe again. She decided that she would join the Resistance, maybe all humans weren't bad. First she needed to find away for them to escape, and she knew exactly where to go.
"I'll help you escape," she beeped.
"Will you come with me?" He asked.
"Yes," she answered after a long pause.
"We have to save my friends," he beeped.
She nodded, then turned to roll quickly down the hall.
BB-8 hurried to follow her. He slid on the slick floor, unlike BB-9E, he was not used to the smooth surface, especially after the time he had spent in the sands of Jakku. BB-9E turned a sharp corner, she let out a metallic laugh as BB-8 skidded trying to keep up with her.
Soon, they came to the hangar and BB-9E led her new friend to one of the small walkers along the wall. She rolled over to a control panel and lowered a small lift next to one of the lifts.
"Hop on," she instructed.
BB-8 rolled onto the lift, he turned to look at her extending a lighter in a thumbs up gesture that she had seen some of the stormtroopers perform. She extended her own lighter, returning the gesture. Then she turned on the lift and BB-8 was brought to the cockpit of the small walker. He rolled inside and waited for her to join him.
She lowered the lift and moved to roll onto it, but she stopped as loud shouts came from the other side of the hangar. She turned to see two stormtroopers running toward them.
"Stop that droid!" One of them shouted.
"Stay here, I'll hold them off." BB-9E told BB-8.
"Come with me," he pleaded.
"I can't, this is the only way. You have to get back to the Resistance... to Poe," she answered. "But I promise that we will see each other again."
She turned, ignoring his protests and rolled quickly toward the stormtroopers. She finally knew what made BB-8 so brave, love. What else was worth risking everything for? Death seemed far less painful than loosing those she cared about.
Maybe this is what bravery was, she thought. Loving someone enough that loosing it was your greatest fear, and facing every other fear just to protect them.
She only hoped that she would live, so that she could keep her promise to BB-8, that they would see each other again.
