Chapter 7
Astri and I peer out from behind a building close to the Jedi Temple hangar bay. Where I escaped. Jedi crawl around it, checking for any signs of me. Or more specifically, my body. My dead body.
"Okay Shadow, what now?" Astri whispers. "It's crawling with Jedi. Only way I can see it, is we have to do a little killing to get a ship. And I'm not ready to do that."
"Neither am I," I reply softly. "I'm really hoping it doesn't come to that."
"Well, it might. Just be prepared for the possibility."
I nod and we creep closer to the Temple. I duck behind a statue near the entrance as I spot Dev and Master Yoda approach the Jedi search teams. Astri hides behind a Starfighter parked outside the hangar.
"Anything?" Dev asks a Jedi, who shakes his head.
"Bad, this is. Betrayed, we have been." Master Yoda shakes his own head sadly. "Distressed, I am. Information, the enemy now has."
I bit my lip. I didn't betray you! I want to scream. I was framed!
"Master!" Someone calls. I peer out from my hiding place and see an angry Ahsoka stomping towards Master Yoda. "Spirit didn't do this! She's too good to do this! Why are you believing Dev? He's Spirit's rival!" she yells.
Dev glares at her. "You've seen the video footage, Ahsoka Tano. You know it's true. And don't forget that you helped her escape. Maybe you two are working in league."
"This is ridiculous! Okay, let me ask you this: You were the one who obtained that 'video footage' so how did you get it?" Ahsoka asks angrily.
Yoda stops them before Dev can answer. "Enough of this. To your room, Ahsoka. Now."
Dev spots the glint of my armour on the setting sun then. "There she is!" he points to me. All of the Jedi turn their gazes on me.
I sigh and step out from my hiding spot. I tap a rhythm on my hip that would look casual to anyone else, but that tells Astri in code to get out. Mission compromised.
"Hi," I say casually.
"Spirit, surrender. We outnumber you," Dev says, activating his lightsaber. All around the hangar, blades glow in various blues and greens.
"Maybe in numbers," I shrug. "But not in weapons."
I take out my twin pistols and aim them at Dev.
"Blasters?" Dev laughs. "I guess you really were never a Jedi. Jedi don't need blasters. They have the Force."
"Well, I'm not a Jedi anymore. YOU of all people should know that." I say icily.
"So it's not just Ahsoka. You really think I framed you?" Dev asks, sounding hurt. "Spirit, I know we were rivals, but I would never hurt you! I wouldn't do anything like this."
"Lies," I laugh softly. "All lies. You'd shoot me if you could." I see the glint of metal on all the walls of the hangar. Blaster-proof durasteel.
"Stun her!" I hear Mace Windu yell as he and a squad of clone troopers come running in behind me. I whirl around and fire my blasters at the blaster-proof durasteel. But I've set them to stun so that nobody actually dies. I thrust out my hands, close my eyes, and reach out with the Force. The bolts ricochet off the walls and hit the clone troopers. The Jedi all duck in time or deflect the bolts. I turn to flee, but hear a lightsaber come whizzing at my back. It's a green one.
In a flash, I've dropped my blasters and my own lightsaber is in my hands. The purple blade glows as it deflects the flying green blade. As it flies off, I quickly grab my blasters and tuck them back into my belt, quickly shooting more bolts at the metal walls. All of the Jedi quickly scurry into defensive stances and try to deflect the bolts. I reach for my comlink, typing in the frequency Red gave me. I memorized it.
"Shadow to Red, backup requested! At the Jedi Temple hangar bay, where they keep the Interceptors!" I yell as Dev grabs his lightsaber back with the Force. A staticky reply is heard.
"Copy, Shadow. Backup on the way. And I'm bringing Flash."
Then I shove my comlink away as Dev charges, lightsaber aglow. Our blades clash strongly. Dev tried to strike again, but I crouch down in a spin and kick his legs out from under him. He falls with a thud, dropping his lightsaber. I pin my own against his neck as someone starts to shoot behind me-but not at me. Red charges in front of me with Flash and a few others, including a hood-wearing Astri. I turn my attention back to Dev.
"Listen to me, Dev," I growl. "You framed me, and you know it. If I were you, I would admit it."
"Spirit, stop! I know you're angry. Let us help you," Dev urges, fear in his eyes. Then a smile lights his face as a blaster bolt hits me in the shoulder. My arm goes numb and I drop my lightsaber. Stun bolt. Dev stands up, MY lightsaber in his hand.
I turn around to see a red lightsaber in one hand of the enemy and a blaster in another. Oh my god. And this time, the Jedi are not the enemy. I hear gasps of surprise fill the air at who has just arrived. The cruel face smiles evilly before another bolt hits me in the heart and I hit the ground, unconscious.
