Lothal Part Two

Here is the long overdue chapter with a surprise at the end. Please enjoy.

Later that night the teen sighed laying his son down.

"Something on your mind?" Morad asked.

"I don't know," he said turning to face the man. " I haven't even been on the planet a day, I already messed up. I have no idea what I'm doing."

The older man smiled in sympathy.

"Hey no parent ever has a clue when placed in a new situation. At least you and the boy are safe and tomorrow we can talk to Joe."

"I'm worried that he won't let me keep Ezra with me. After what happened with Janus, I don't want him far. Heh, I even tried leaving him with friends who would take care of him, but I couldn't do it. He's all I have. "

Morad placed a comforting hand on the younger's shoulder.

"Don't worry, I know both Joe and the owner. All you have to do is explain your situation and they will do what they can," he said giving his shoulder a squeeze.

Kanan nodded before letting out a huge yawn.

"Get some sleep," the man chuckled. "Can't show up to an interview half dead on your feet."

Nodding Kanan, crawled into bed. After the lights went out the teen waited for Morad to fall asleep. Once he did Kanan's eyes snapped open.

"I promise Ezra," he whispered taking the boy's small hand. "No matter what happens I'm gonna make sure you stay safe."

The baby giggled in his sleep causing the other to smile.

"Good night Baby Boy," he said kissing Ezra's hand and allowed his eyes to slip shut.

The next morning Kanan was greeted to smell of bacon and what he hoped was eggs. Cracking his eyes open he almost thought the past few weeks was a dream and they were back on Garel. The unfamiliar room told him otherwise. Sitting up Kanan stretched sighing in relief when several places in his back popped. Twisting around he grinned seeing the small child sleeping soundly.

"Good morning," a deep voice said from the side.

Looking back Kanan smiled realizing Morad had a fresh pot caff ready to go.

"Good morning," he replied. "What's going on?"

The older man chuckled nodding toward the empty seat.

"Up an atem Son; you're interview is in a couple of hours."

"How did...I mean...I uh.."

Kanan blushed realizing that his brain was malfunctioning due to lack of sleep.

"Come on Kanan," Morad said holding a cup out to him. "Let Ezra sleep a little longer."

Deciding that was the best option the teen slid out of bed and walked over to the table taking the offered drink.

"Mmm," he hummed letting the caff spread its healing warmth over his tired muscles and felt his brain start to wake up.

"How old are you exactly?" Morad asked after a few minutes of silence.

"Almost 17," Kanan said shrinking back.

He immediately kicked himself for telling the truth because most people looked down on him and Ezra when they realized how young they really were. No doubt Morad would think the same.

"Hmm, a bit young but I'm pretty sure you'll do a great job," the man said with a smile. "Not many men as young as you stick around when saddled with a child."

Kanan looked up surprised.

"You...don't..."

"Think you are some stupid kid? No you're here and you love that little boy. I don't know the whole story but I will do everything I can to help you and Ezra," he said crossing his arms.

"Thank you," Kanan smiled.

Kanan POV

A few hours later we were walking down the street to the small cantina, Shadow Haunt. Ezra giggled at all the the people and the few who cast a glance at him smiled in return.

"He sure is a happy baby," Morad chuckled. "Joe is going to love him."

I chuckled bouncing my son a bit as he looked up at me.

"Yeah, he's been the only bright spot in all this mess."

Before I knew it we had made it. Walking inside it pleasantly reminded me of the bar on Garel. They weren't open yet so the place was empty except for an  Ithorian male wiping down the bar and from what I could see was someone in the back making a lot of ruckus.

"Joey!" Morad called walking over to the bar.

"Sumar," the keep sighed. "What have I told you about calling me that?"

"Oh come on, you know it's funny."

I watched the scene slightly amused, I remember Janus saying that his friend's name was Joe so I figured this was him.

"Hey Kanan."

I snapped out of my thoughts and walked over to the pair.

"this is Kanan Jarrus, the kid I told you about," Morad said placing a hand on my shoulder. "An this little one is his son, Ezra."

"A pleasure to meet you both," Joe said sticking out his hand.

I immediately took it and shook hands.

"So you want a job, huh?" He asked the second I let go.

I guess I was still tired because my brain short circuited for a moment.

"I well...um...sigh....Yes I am. Sorry it's been a rough go these last few weeks."

Joe looked down at Ezra who was currently at the moment trying to grab at the few facial hairs I had managed to grow.

"How old is he?"

"Almost a year," I answered moving my head back a bit.

Joe chuckled slightly before nodding.

"It's tough when they're at that age. Seen a bunch of men in here talking about their kids. If I had to guess you're under twenty which makes it even tougher especially alone."

"I wasn't always alone," I answered quietly. "Janus helped out a lot but he died in an explosion on Garel. He told me to come to Lothal and find you. Said that you would be able to help."

"Janus Kasmir sent you?" Joe asked.

I nodded kissing the top of my son's head.

"He saved Ezra and I when the ceiling collapsed; pushed us out of the way. There was nothing I could have done to save him."

Joe sighed and looked up and I swore I saw tears in the bar keeps eyes.

"Kasmir was a wonderful friend and if he trusted you then so do I. I need a second bartender can you do that?"

I nodded eagerly.

"Good, an you are in luck, the owner is here and will wanting to meet you."

About that time a larger male came stumbling out of the back room with a crate in his hands.

"Gracious Joe, why do we have so much stuff?" He ranted setting the crate down.

"Maybe because we don't go in there as often," Joe said.

I smiled at the sarcasm in his voice. The man nodded and went on talking about how some officers wanted imported wine and refused anything else.

"Why can't they get the hint that somethings just aren't possible," he said finally realizing I was standing there.

"I'm so sorry Son, we aren't open yet."

I went to speak but thankfully Joe beat me to it.

"You told me to hire a bartender and here he is."

The owner looked at me for several seconds and I held his gaze. I knew that I looked horrible with the bags under my eyes and rumbled clothes but I needed this job.

"Sorry Kid, but I'm not sure this is going to work out."

"Wait," I said quickly. "Let me prove I know what I'm doing."

"Ehh sure why not."

I handed Ezra to Mr. Sumar and went behind the bar. I quickly pulled out some different types and mixed them together for a pretty basic drink. I handed it to the owner.

"Not bad," the man said after taking sip. "But people also come up with the craziest of concoctions, can you handle that?"

I smirked slightly and scanned the different drinks and was excited to see they had everything to make my most famous drink. The Empire. I pulled out everything I needed and turned to my son. He was gnawing on his shirt.

"EJ," I snapped my fingers.

He looked up at me and smiled realizing what I was about to do.

"Watch Daddy."

I started with something simple but as I added the combinations, I started doing little flips and tricks with the bottles. Ezra of course was entertained laughing when I caught and poured each liquid, everyone else was just amazed. When I finished, I handed it to owner and watched as he examined it. The drink itself was kind of murky and had what looked like sediments floating around when swirled and it had a sort of sweet scent that was intoxicating. He slowly took a sip and was intrigued by the taste until it came back to bite him. However that was the one thing about this drink, you couldn't stop until it was gone.

"You sir, what was that?" He panted once it was finished. "that was amazing."

"I call it the Empire," I said starting to put things away. "I was a bartender back on Garel. I got bored one night so I started to mix different things. Truth be told this particular one was an accident. Janus came in just as I finished and took a swig of it before I could stop him. He demanded I make another and so I did. Damion ,my boss, asked what it was and I told him what I did. From then on, he let me experiment and before I left I believe I added ten new drinks to his menu."

"But why did you tell your kid to watch?" Joe asked.

"He likes it when I do the little tricks and such. Keeps him entertained or helps put him to sleep."

The owner placed the glass on the counter and stuck out his hand.

"Earl Trevortin, welcome aboard..."

"Kanan Jarrus," I replied shaking it. "You won't regret it Sir."

"I know I won't," he replied warmly.

NPOV Present Time

"Wait..." Sabine interrupted the story. "He wasn't going to give the job because you looked to young but did after he saw you make one drink?"

Kanan Jarrus blinked as he came back to reality. He wasn't in Shadow Haunt anymore but in common room of the Ghost. Ezra and Sabine had come down with colds and he was entertaining them with stories while Hera and Zeb were out doing a supply run.

"Yeah," he chuckled rubbing his eyes a bit. "Good thing to, I had no idea what Ezra and I would have done if he hadn't."

"What happened to him?" Sabine asked.

"Mr. Trevortin passed away a couple of years before Shadow Haunt was burnt down," Ezra said.

"Still can't believe you knew Janus Kasmir," she mumbled.

Kanan smiled and picked up the two ice packs.

"Well then how about I tell you about the time he made me fly a ship through an asteroid field."

I do hope you enjoyed this chapter and as always please let me know what you thought.

So I have some big news, remember the book I was working on? I sent it off for publication and it has been accepted. Though I'm not sure how long it will be before it is available. I have to come up with a lot of money to get started. I have considered the Patreon site but wanted to know what everyone thought about it.

Have an awesome day!!!!
