I've Got you Part Two

I know I haven't updated in a long while. I'm working a new job and when I come home I'm really exhausted. Any way, I do hope you enjoy the story.

Kanan POV

I sighed as I gazed at Ezra's pale face. I jerked when I felt a blanket being placed around my shoulders. I looked up to see Hera's worried face.

"How is he doing?" She asked.

"No change," I sighed taking Ezra's small hand.

"Love, what happened?" Hera asked sitting down on the bed.

I sighed before turning back my gaze to my padawan.

Flashback.

The day started out rather normal. Ezra and I were training on out in the fields when we were ambushed. We tried to fight the squadron off but we were outnumbered and soon captured. The captain or what ever his rank was boasted how he was getting a promotion because of our capture.

"Once we are back at the complex, blah blah, " he continued as I tuned him out.

Glancing down at the unconscious form of Ezra I felt horrible. Slipping into meditation I silently hoped there was a way out this mess.

About thirty minutes later a rumble snapped me out of my mediation. Glancing around I could feel fear radiating from the troopers, something wasn't right. I glanced out the windshield and saw what was going. We had flown into a storm and from the looks of it, it was a pretty bad one. The ship gave a shuddered as it was hit by lightening.

"Sir, we have a problem," an officer exclaimed.

"Well get it fixed!" The captain ordered.

Ezra whimpered waking up from the shouting.

"Ezra," I hissed.

He looked at me his eyes still hazy. Since he had been knocked out cold they didn't bother cuffing him.

"Kid, they're distracted, get me from free," I said showing my cuffed wrists.

The ship gave a violent shake.

"Now," I ordered quietly.

He tried to get them unlocked but his mind and fingers didn't seem to be on the same wavelength. The troopers finally realized that he was awake and went to grab him when the ship lost all power. Ezra curled into my side, a whimper escaping his throat, not that I blamed him. He's ten years old and this was terrifying for him. The hatch opened and I could see something I really wished I didn't. A water spout was spinning and it looks like we were about to get sucked into it.

"Sir?" The troopers questioned.

"Kick the Jedi out," he ordered.

The troopers nodded and went to push us out when the ship gave one last shake before plummeting to the water below. Using the force I flipped Ezra onto my other side and took a deep breath. Shoving both of us out, I realized that I was still handcuffed. I didn't have time to get them undone as we hit the water. I let myself sink as I focused on getting them. As soon as I felt them come undone I started propelling myself back to the surface. The minute I broke the surface my mind went into overdrive.  I didn't see Ezra and that terrified me. The child had been clinging to my side as we fell but when we went under I'm not sure. The waves were violent and I could vaguely see the ship getting sucked down. I was shoved below and I fought to get back up.

"Ezra!" I screamed begging the force to let the boy hear me.

I continued to fight the waves as I called again and again. Finally a tiny voice reached out. Jerking around I saw him. He was fighting but I could tell he was tiring. Fighting against current, I swam torward him. Unfortunately I wasn't fast enough. A wave shoved him down and he didn't come back up.

"Ezra!" I yelped diving below the surface.

Fear mixing with adrenaline, made me go faster and I grabbed him before he could sink any farther. Wrapping him securely aginanst me,I kicked for the surface. It seemed like the storm  worsened as we came up. Coughing, I struggled to keep us from getting sent back down.

"Ezra! Ezra, come on, Kid," I called trying to get a response.

He remained unresponsive.

"Ezra wake up!" I begged him as we got shoved down by another wave.

As we came up, a light flooded my senses.

"Kanan!" A voice yelled.

I knew that voice.

"ZEB!" I yelled as we got shoved down again. "ZEB, send down the tether," I yelled pulling Ezra closer to me.

The Ghost helped against the wind but the rain was still pouring and lighting was still flashing. Soon the tether made it's way down.

"Hold on," I whispered in his ear as I grabbed line, clinging to it tightly.

I gave it a sharp tug and felt tighten around my wrist pulling us up.

"It's okay, I've got you," I whispered to him tightening my hold on him as the wind hit us again.

"Kanan!" Zeb called jerking my attention away from my boy.

He was reaching out for me to take his hand but I had something else in mind.

"Take Ezra!" I shouted.

Nodding he quickly grabbed the boy and reached for me. Taking his hand I was able to flip myself onto the ramp.

"Let's go," I said taking Ezra back.

Dropping to my knees, I placed the boy on the floor. Still working on adrenaline I barely notice Sabine slamming the button shutting the ramp.

"Ezra?" I called shaking him.

Still no answer. I placed my ear against his chest but there was no signs of life. Shaking my head, I blew air into his mouth and began CPR. After several minutes he still wasn't responding.

"Ezra! Ezra, come back to us," I begged trying again.

I wasn't stopping until someone made me. After a few more tries he finally started coughing up water. I quickly turned him on his side and rubbed his back trying to help him breathe. Once he was done I rolled him back over to see him staring tiredly at me.

"Kid?"

"Ezra?"

"Kanan is he alright?"

Ezra seemed to recognize all their voices but his brain shut down and he passed out.

Kanan finished telling his story and gripped his Padawan's hand tighter.

"Hera, please tell me he is going to wake up."

"He's a strong kid Kanan. He will be okay, he just needs some rest," Hera said placing a hand on his shoulder.

The man nodded and continued his watch. After about another hour he felt a disturbance through the force.

"Ezra?"

Sure enough blue eyes were blinking open.

"Kanan?" He asked his voice scratchy.

"I'm here Kid, I'm here. Everything is going to be alright," Kanan said cupping the boy's cheek.

"What happened?" Ezra asked.

"We got captured and then you nearly drowned on me," kanan said guilt seeping into his voice.

"But you saved me?" The boy asked trying to sit up.

"I did but none of this should have happened in the first place. If I had been a little more prepared and got those cuffs off or even kept my saber on me today, then we wouldn't have gotten caught and then you wouldn't be hurt. You are the most important thing to me and I can't bear to lose you."

"Kanan?" Ezra questioned.

"Yeah Kid?"

"Stop being overprotective and hug me."

The man smirked and did as asked.

"I'm not over protective."

"Yes you are," the boy laughed curling up against his master's chest. "No matter what you say, you are very overprotective."

"Like I said, I love you Kid. No one is going to take you from me. Not with out a fight."

"Then will you stay so I can go back to sleep?"

"Sure," Kanan replied laying both of them back.

Ezra snuggled into the warm hold.

"Thanks Dad."

"Youre welcome, Son."

I do hope you have enjoyed this. Have a great day.
