Always There
So I have been a very down mood lately. I do hope you guys enjoy this. I noticed that when Rebels returned something major is going to happen and I'm not sure how to take that information.
NPOV
Ezra had never felt so scared in his life. This wasn't supposed to happen; he was supposed to be meeting back with the Ghost, not spiraling out of control.
"Ezra!" A voice crackled over his comm.
"Hera!" The eighteen year old yelled grabbing the device.
"Honey, where are you?" The pilot asked.
Ezra closed his eyes and forced himself to calm down, slightly. Before he could answer her question the ship gave a violent shudder killing his calm.
"Hera...I'm crashing..I can't...there's no power, I'm not going to make it," he whimpered sinking to the floor clutching his stomach.
"Yes you will," she said firmly. "We are getting your coordinates and you are going to be okay. Ezra you need to be stay calm and use the force to slow the ship."
Hera POV
I started panicking the moment Ezra said he was crashing. After reassuring him, I put the channel on mute and yelled at Chopper to locate his comm before turning my attention back to Ezra.
"Ezra?" I called but all I could hear was his ragged breathing. "Ezra!"
"Hera," he whispered, something wasn't right.
He almost sounded...defeated.
"I'm sorry but...I can't...there's no control please...I'm scared..."
"Hun listen to me, you have to make it. Please...Kanan would want you to live. Ezra you have to," I said tears starting to form. "Please...I can't lose you too."
"I'm sorry, I love you," he whispered before the comm went to static.
"Ezra! No come back!" I screamed fiddling with the knobs but to no anvil. "Chopper!"
"Lost the signal," he beeped sadly.
"I need those coordinates, there still might be a chance."
Chopper beeped and the Ghost's dash lit up.
Ezra POV
Hera said to try and use the force to slow the ship but I knew that it wouldn't work. From my spot on the floor I could see the ground quickly coming up.
"You always manage to find some kind of trouble don't you?" A familiar voice chuckled.
"Kanan?"
Sure enough the ghostly image of my master appeared smiling brightly at me.
"Kanan," I called weakly, tears starting to fall my from eyes.
He looked like he did that day but except now his eyes were in tact.
"Shh.." he soothed kneeling in front of me. "It will be over soon."
I cringed as the sharp pains from the wound in my stomach made themselves known once again.
'I'm sorry," I whispered. "I told her I wasn't going to make it but I didn't tell her why. I couldn't do it."
"It's okay," he said moving so we were laying down. "You're safe, the crash isn't going to kill you."
As much as I didn't want to die, it made me feel a bit better knowing that I wasn't going to be alone. After a few moments Hera came back on the line calling for me.
"I'm sorry but...I can't...there's no control, please...I'm scared..."
The last part was directed toward Kanan, who smiled and placed his forehead against mine.
"Hun listen to me, you have to make it. Please...Kanan would want you to live."
Heh if she only knew.
"Ezra you have to. Please...I can't lose you too."
Glancing down at the wound I knew that even if I did survive the crash Hera wouldn't make it in time.
"I'm sorry, I love you," I whispered before there was thunderous boom followed by a bright explosion.
Several hours later.
When I came to my entire body was numb.
"Nnggg," I groaned cracking my eyes open.
"Easy ,don't try to move," Kanan's voice ordered.
"I'm not dead?" I asked hoarsely, opening my eyes fully.
"Not yet," he replied, gently running his hand through my hair. "It's gotten longer."
"I haven't cut since you..." I wanted to say it but I couldn't get the word out.
He grimaced but kept up the action. Looking around I noticed that most of the ship was in firey pieces except for where we were.
"You had something to do with it didn't you?" I accused teasingly.
Kanan nodded and moved so he was able to hold me in his arms.
"Didn't know you force ghosts could do that," I grimaced at the movement.
"When have I ever played by the rules?" he asked jokingly.
I smiled feeling my chest tighten suddenly.
"Kanan," I whimpered.
"Shh...it will be over soon. I'm here, breathe. Just breathe."
"I'm scared. This wasn't supposed to happen."
"I know Kid, I know," he soothed laying his head against mine.
"You were supposed to grow up in the Temple, where we would have met. Then when you were old enough we were supposed to train and of course I would have still looked out for and protected you," he whispered in my ear.
The pain in my chest lessened some.
"Tell me more," I begged.
"We would have been a great team; getting into trouble and making the counsel worry about our bond. I would have worried when you weren't at my side or within connecting distance. When they would have tried to split us, I would have taken you to Lothal and that's where we would have spent the rest of our days."

The teen smiled as his master spoke, picturing it all in his head.
"It would have been a great life."
"Yes, it would have," the man replied tightening his hold. "I'm sorry it didn't turn out like that."
"It wasn't your fault," Ezra whispered. "I'm just glad you guys found me when you did."
"Just wish it was sooner. You know, in a way you helped me heal a lot of stuff from past just I helped you heal from yours," Kanan offered knowing that his kid's time was close.
"Kanan," Ezra blinked, his eyes almost to heavy to keep open. "I'm really sleepy."
"That's okay, go to sleep, you're okay."
"Is this how you felt when you were dying, sleepy?" Ezra mumbled.
Kanan placed a kiss on Ezra's temple and hugged him closer.
"Yes, and my master did the same thing I'm doing for you. Held me until it was over."
Ezra felt a warm feeling spread through his body as he let his eyes slip close and breathed his last.
When Hera arrived a few minutes later she gasped to see what was left of the shuttle. After landing the ship, Hera raced down the ramp in hopes that somehow her boy had survived.
"Ezra!" She called but the boy didn't answer.
Noticing a larger part of the ship still in tact Hera quickly made her way over to it.
"Ezra?" She called peeking inside.
At first glance one would see debris and figured that is how they landed. Hera, knowing better took a closer look and found him.
"Ezra," she whispered kneeling down beside him.
He was covered in cuts, bruises, and had a large stab wound in abdomen. Going against her gut, Hera reached over and felt for a pulse. Nothing. The young Jedi whom she had come to love as her own son was gone and Hera for a second time in a year felt her world ending. Though despite his injuries, it did bring some comfort to see that the boy had a content smile on his face, indicating he didn't die terrified.
'He's safe,' a voice whispered past her.
"Kanan?" Hera jerked around only to see nothing.
The voice didn't answer but Hera knew. Turning back to Ezra's body, Hera bent down and placed a kiss against his temple.
"Even in death he protected you," she mumbled in his ear. "Don't worry, we'll bury you on Lothal, right next to your father, I promise."
I do hope you guys enjoyed this and please let me know what you thought. Have an awesome day!!!
