When a Stranger Calls 4
10:30 p.m.
No one was there. Hera looked around then shut and locked the door with a lace of fear. She punched the code into the security box then stood on her tippy toes securing the lock that was above the door. Then the phone rings again.
Hera rushes over and grabs the phone. "Hello?" She says cautiously, "Solo resistance."
"Her-a," a familiar voice said. "Kanan?" Hera said, "move around, there is a bad connection." "Is that better?" Kanan asked and I replied with a 'yes.' "Kanan," she said, "Have you been calling me here? I won't be mad, I just need to know."
"Zeb was prank calling you but I made him stop," Kanan confirmed. "Has he called me more than once?" She asked. "I don't know," Kanan replied unsure, "I'll check." Hera waited until her ex came back with her answer but the phone lost its connection. Hera retyped the phone number to try and reach Kanan. "The person that you are trying to reach is out of range-" the phone said before Hera put it back on the black box.
She grabbed a book and sat on the couch but the phone rang again. She didn't want to use that phone again. Hera remembered that there was a phone in the kitchen with a caller ID so she quickly made her way to the phone. She picked it up and saw Numa's name as clear as crystal on the phone.
Hera walked out of the kitchen and back to the living room. While doing that, she answered the phone saying, "Numa, I know it's you, your name is on caller ID."
"This isn't Numa," the dark voice returned and Hera froze. "Who is this?" Hera asked worried. "Who is this?" The man repeated. "Kanan, is that you," she asked scared. "Who's Kanan?" The man asked. "You better stop it-" Hera was saying then the person hung up. Hera didn't know what to do or think when this creepy and dark man's voice came through the phone.
She sat on the couch and set the phone next to the one on the black box. She then picked it back up and called Ahsoka. "Hello? Hello?" Ahsoka said. "Ahsoka, this is Hera," Hera said, "Can you hear me?"
"Hardly, it's hard getting any service up here," Ahsoka said statically, "Did you talk to Numa?"
"Yes, but Ahsoka-" Hera stopped when Ahsoka said, "Hello? Is anyone there?"
"Ahsoka?" Hera said but the phone disconnected. She typed in the number again but was unsuccessful when she lost connection again. Hera at this point was breathing hard and tried to call her father. "Hello, you have reached the Syndulla line, please leave a message after the beep," the phone said.
After the beep, Hera said, "Hey dad, this is Hera. Could you stop by the Solo house when you get a chance, thanks."
She stopped until she thought of another person to call. Hera typed in the number and waited for a reply. "This is 911. What is your emergency?" A woman's voice said calmly. "Um, I'm not sure if it is really an emergency but can I still call the police?" Hera asked.
"Sure," woman replied then a new voice came through the phone. "This is officer Kallus," an officer said, "How can I help you?"
"Uh, hi I'm getting weird phone calls and it is starting to scare me," Hera said. "Has you said anything abusive or threatening?" The officer asked. "No, he sometimes doesn't even say anything," Hera said.
"Well then it's not really an emergency," Kallus said then asked, "Are you at home?"
"No, I'm just the babysitter," Hera replied.
"What's your name?" The officer asked.
"Hera Syndulla," she said. "Do you know anyone like a friend that could keep you company?" Kallus asked. "No," Hera replied. Then looked out the window and saw Rosa's car parked in the driveway. "Oh wait, the house maid is still here. I thought she left," Hera said. "There you go, if you need anything else do not hesitate to call," Kallus said. "Thank you, bye," Hera said and hung up.
Hera started to call for Ross but there was no reply. She went to the fridge and typed in Rosa's phone number and waited. Hera perked up when a ringing echoed through the halls of the quiet house. She followed the ringing until it stopped. Hera tried again and followed the ringing until she stood in front of a door. She set her ear against the door and peeked in.
Hera looked to the left to see a purse on a table. The ringing was coming from inside the purse. She walked in and shut the phone off then a creaking noise of the door came from behind her. Hera turned around and jumped with her heart racing when she saw a big black thing standing there. Hera calmed down when she saw that it was just a coat hanger with a big black coat and a black hat.
Hera returned to the living room then the phone was ringing once again. "Hello," she said and waited to see who would reply but wasn't expecting what the replier would say. "Have you checked the children?"
