Four years ago...
Ezra's P.O.V- 11 years old
"Get back here you lothrat!" I heard the guy from the booth yell. I may have sort of stolen a fruit from him and he wasn't taking it lightly as you can tell. I kept running and was probably making the guy more mad but I thought I had the advantage since I was faster.
That was until a blaster shot sped past my head. I'm not faster than blaster fire. Hopefully that guy doesn't have good aim.
Luck wasn't on my side today when a burning pain went through my leg. I fell to the ground screaming in pain from the sudden pain shooting through my right leg. I held my leg and forgot about the fruit the was carelessly thrown to the side like me. No one would care about me, they just walked past like this was an everyday thing in which it sometimes was.
Yet, this was different cause I don't think the guy had that blaster on stun, more like kill. Why you may ask was his blaster on kill? Like I said, no one cares for a dirty, street rat orphan.
The sun was blinding my eyes and the blood the I am drastically loosing made the world look dizzy. Suddenly, all the air in my lungs left when something or someone kicked my right in the stomach. I held my stomach with my other hand in pain and there probably will be a bruise there later.
"Lucky me," I heard the guy say, "Hopefully, I won't have to deal with you anymore cause you will probably be dead." I didn't have to look at him to know that he was smiling. I just stared at his boots and just dozed into a daze not paying attention to him but my pain.
My leg burned more than the hottest days on Lothal and the blow to my stomach made me feel like I'm in space. Soon the boot moved and I'm guessing the guy left me here to die.
'He must of been having a bad day,' I thought sarcastically. I just stared at the sun and waited till I passed out so there would be no more pain. I saw a figure looming over me but I couldn't make out who it was cause my vision wasn't at its best yet. Still I could see whoever it was bend down and pick me up carrying me off to somewhere.
I groaned in pain when the pain increased from being moved. "It's ok, get some rest. You are going to be just fine," I heard the figure say. I didn't know why but I reluctantly closed my eyes and fell asleep in the stranger's arms.
The next time I woke up, I found myself looking at the sky and the tops of two buildings. Where am I and how did I get here? I remembered what happened then I suddenly had the energy to sit up. I winced when a little bit of pain surged through my pain. 'At least it didn't hurt as bad as before,' I thought then wondered why it didn't.
My eyes landed on my right leg and carefully I rolled my leg up to see bandages. Then I looked around to see that I was in an ally and laying on a light blue blanket. I rolled my pant leg down then looked at my stomach to see bandages there too.
'Who helped me? Was it that figure I saw that carried me away?' I thought pushing my shirt back down. Then a clocked figure came around the corner and walked over to me. The figure then sat down next to my right leg and I scooted over. "Who are you?" I asked giving whoever it was an untrustworthy look.
"My apologies," they said in an accent and pulled down the hood to reveal a Twi'lek woman. Her skin was a bit darker orange than my jumpsuit and her eyes were a combination of orange and red. "I'm a nurse from the clone wars," she said in a normal voice this time.
I just kept looking at her and wondering if she was trusting. A whistling was telling me that it was ok and I trusted it because it has helped me get out of lots of things. So I subconsciously scooted back my leg and the Twi'lek unraveled the bandages carefully.
Silence was all the came between us until I asked another question that has been bugging me. "Why did you save me?" I asked then sadly said, "Everyone hates me and no one likes street rats." I winced from what I said and looked at my lap with a lump in my throat.
A gentle hand laid on my shoulder making me look up into caring eyes. "I'm not everyone or a no one. I am who I am and who I am is just someone that wants to help," she said. I was completely speechless and didn't know what to say.
The Twi'lek was done unraveling the bandages and pulled out something from her bag. It was a bottle with some sort of liquid in it. "What is that?" I asked hesitantly. "It's disinfectant," she said, "This is going to sting some. Did you want to squeeze something when I pour it on?"
"No, I'm sure I'll be fine," I said. She nodded and slowly poured the stuff on the wound. I didn't realize how painful it was going to be until a hiss of pain left my mouth. "You good?" She asked my and I sighed after it was over nodding my head up and down.
"Here," she said handing my some fruit and water. I was shocked and taken back by this. She was giving me free food. What does she want from me? This Twi'lek wants something from me but what was it?
"What do you want from me?" I asked. She gave me and confused look trying to hand me the food. "I just the satisfaction of helping someone that needs it," she said. "So you're saying I'm weak, that I can't handle myself," I spat glaring at her.
She gave me a sad look and sighed. She pulled out a handkerchief and put the food and water bottle in it then wrapped it up. "I'm not saying you are weak or that you can't handle yourself," she said sliding the handkerchief with the goods to me.
The woman continued, "All I'm saying is that you needed help and maybe even a friend. Besides, I don't like the Empire as much as the next person or Twi'lek or any other citizen that faced their torture. Believe me, you know stuff when you've been through it all."
"Who says I don't like the Empire?" I asked crossing my arms. "Cause you are just like everyone else in the galaxy that I've met," she said, "I see it every time I'm healing someone from looking them in the eye to their body movement. Each and everyone of them the same."
I was astonished by her answer. She could read people very well but I wasn't a force to be reckoned with. "What's your name?" She asked me. "Jabba the Hutt," I lied and she gave me an unconvinced look but shrugged it off. "What's yours?" I asked.
"Freya, my name is Freya," she said smiling. Freya started to pack up her supplies then look over at me. "Can you stand?" She asked me. I tried to stand up and pain shot through my stomach and leg but managed to get up. I walked to the nearest wall and leaned on it while watching Freya pack her stuff.
She slung the bag over her shoulder then picked up the goods walking over to me. Freya handed me it and I rolled my eyes taking it. "Do you need help getting back to your home. I'm sure your parents are worried about you," Freya said.
I looked down at the goods saying, "I don't have any parents." I glanced up a bit and saw sadness in her eyes. The silence was unbearable and I almost felt like just leaving.
"I should be going now and I'm so sorry about what happened," Freya said.
"It's fine..." I said softly then said, "Thank you, you don't know how much this means to me."
"I hope we can see each other again, Jabba," Freya said waving bye. "Wait," I said making her stop. I limped a bit away from the wall then nervously scratched the back of my neck with my free arm. "Ezra, my name is Ezra," I said looking up at her. She gave me a genuine smile. "It is nice to meet you Ezra," Freya said then her face changed into realization. "Oh wait! I almost forgot I got something for your leg," she said taking out a piece of armor.
Freya walked over and knelt down to the wound. "Can you keep your leg straight?" She asked me. I did my best to straighten my leg and it was really painful. It felt like needles kept being stabbed in my leg. I bit my tongue to hold back a painful moan.
I watched Freya put the armor on my leg then stood up. "Now try to walk," she said backing away a little. I began to walk and surprisingly it didn't hurt to walk. "Just try and not be reckless for a couple of days and it should be fully healed," Freya added and I nodded smiling.
"Seriously, thank you. No one has been nice to me since-" I stopped before saying 'my parents.' I looked at my boots finding them interesting then felt arms wrap around me. I flinched and my muscles tensed at the affection. I was about to shrug out of the embrace but at the moment I felt warm and safe.
So I laid my head on her shoulder and closed my eyes enjoying the moment. Then soon I backed out of the hug with a smile. Freya had a smile too saying, "Stay out of trouble."
"It's not like I like trouble. It's trouble that likes me," I said making her laugh. "Thank you for everything you did," I said then we both parted ways. I was probably never going to see her again but there was no way I was going to forget her. She reminded me that there are people that care.
