Chapter 1
I walked to the cockpit to find Hera in the pilot's seat. She stopped pressing buttons and turned to see me then smiled. "Hey Ezra, what are you up to?" She asked, "and I hope it's not trouble." "Ha ha," I mock laughed, "No, I just wanted to talk." I sat down in the co-pilot's seat as Hera went back to pressing buttons.
"What do you want to talk about?" She asked and didn't notice me fidget in my seat. "Um, that book that you gave Sabine," I started and my tone in my voice seemed to give away that something was wrong. Hera put the Ghost on auto-pilot then swiveled in her chair to face me. "What's wrong?" She asked worried.
I looked down at my hands and turned to face the window the showed the beautiful streams of blue star light flash passed by. "That book reminded me of something but I can't remember what it was," I said then looked over at Hera. "What did it remind you of?" She asked, "I know you said that you don't remember but just stop and think about it."
I calmed my mind and closed my eyes to remember that one word that was familiar. Earth. My eyes shot open as the memory came and I gasped like I couldn't breath. "Ezra, are you alright?" Hera asked me. I held my hand on my forehead as I muttered, "My parents." "What?" She asked confused and worried. Hera turned my chair so I would face her.
"My parents," I said a little louder and I looked up to see Hera knelt down in front of me. "What about your parents?" She asked. "They used to tell me stories about the planet Earth," I said and Hera's face soften. I calmed down but a depressed feeling washed over me.
I felt warm arms wrap around me but I didn't know whose arms they were. I looked over to see Hera and I subconsciously leaned into her touch. She let me go and smiled, "You still miss them, don't you." "All the time," I admitted and looked up at Hera. "Do you think they are still alive?" I asked. "It doesn't hurt to have a little hope sometimes," she said then moved back to her seat.
"Thanks Hera," I said wiping my eyes so I wouldn't let any tears fall. "If you need to talk to me, come in anytime," she said and I nodded. I stood up and was leaving the room when I heard holo communicator turn on. I turned to see Fulcrum's symbol pop up but I turned back and left the cockpit. This was probably something private and I didn't want to get in the way when Hera just helped me.
I left with curiosity of what Ahsoka needed. Maybe Hera will tell us later, I just have to be patient. I walked towards Sabine's room and wondered if maybe she would read me one of those stories. I hesitated at the front of her door. Would she read me a story or two? Would I bug or annoy her if I asked questions?
Suddenly the door flew open in front of me and I stumbled back in surprise. Sabine raised an eyebrow and asked, "Why are you standing in front of my door?" "I....uh.....was wondering..." I started to scratch the back of my neck nervously. "Look kid if you are trying to ask me out-" "No! No!" I cut her off blushing a bit, "I just wanted you to read me some stories."
"Here," she said handing me the book, "Why don't you read it?" Another problem and the reason I wanted her to read to me, I barely can read. I took the book anyways and looked at it as Sabine watched me. "Is there something wrong?" She asked. "Oh uh, no nothing is wrong," I said and was about to walk away when a hand laid on my shoulder.
"What's wrong?" She asked and I sighed turning around to face her. "I can't exactly read ok," I said then looked at the cover of the book and glared at the words as they mocked me. "Then I'll teach you," Sabine told me confidentiality. I looked up shocked, "Y-You will?" "Of course, come on," she said and I followed her into her room.
I sat on the other side of the table as Sabine pushed the book across the table in front of me. "First, let's start with the title," she said, "This should be easy since I told you." I looked down at the words, "T-The M-my-mythoooo-" "Mythological," Sabine corrected me. "The Mythological P-Planet Earth," I said and smiled. "Good," she said and then I scanned the cover for the author's name.
Yet, I couldn't find a name. "Sabine, isn't there supposed to be an author's name?" I asked. Sabine took the book and searched the cover but came out empty. "Must be an unknown author," she said. Was there such a thing? Weird. We continued on with my lesson deciding to worry about it later. She helped me on some words that I stumbled on and before I knew it, I read a whole story.
"That's all for today," she said smiling and handed me the book, "and keep on reading to get more practice then maybe you'll surprise me tomorrow by reading a whole different story." I smiled and nodded, "Thanks Sabine." "Thank me when you learned that whole book," she said. I left the room with the book in my hands and decided to keep practicing.
Reading was fun when you know what's happening but the unknown author's name was still in my mind. I wonder who wrote the book?
