Ezra POV
The next morning, I walked down the ramp to see most of the crew was working to get the last of the refugee supplies ready.
"Morning Commander," I greeted coming up beside him.
"Good morning Ezra. I trust that you slept well," he said turning slightly to grin at me.
I nodded my head and looked toward the others.
"Where would you like me to start?"
"You are actually going to be with me, today," Sato replied typing on his data pad. "After what happened yesterday afternoon, I am under strict orders to keep you in sight."
"Most likely Dad's doing," I muttered.
Sato laughed, placing a hand on my shoulder.
"Your father is only concerned about your well-being."
"You're not gonna ask how I know who gave the order?"
The man shook his head before tapping his temple.
"If I remember correctly masters and padawans have a bond that connects them. If I had to guess, since Kanan is your father, that bond is a lot stronger."
I smiled while crossing my arms.
"You're correct about the bonds about our bond but Dad has always been protective of me. If he can sneak past Mom, Dad will show up."
Sato's face took a confused look for a few moments before leaning to whisper.
"Is your mother a Jedi as well?"
A deep chuckle came from the side of the ship.
"You have no idea how many times we have asked that question."
"Dad!"
Sure enough he emerged, grinning brightly at me.
"What can I say Son? You know me all too well."
I gave him a pointed look, diving into our bond.
'You use to let me do things on my own,' I said unamused.
'That was before I knew you were force sensitive, which put a very large target on your back,' he replied.
I sighed in defeat. He's right, I would never admit it, but I'm terrified to have to face those two inquisitors again or maybe even Vader.
'Don't worry Little Light, you aren't going to be facing them alone,' he whispered soothingly, relaxing my rising anxiety.
Commander Sato cleared his throat breaking us from our silent conversation.
"Kanan, I can assure you that Ezra was completely safe with us."
Dad grinned at the man and stepped up on the ramp.
"I know he was, but after everything that has happened in the past few months, I want him as close as possible. I do hope you understand."
Sato nodded and typed on his data pad.
"Very well, my group will be leaving in a few minutes."
With that he walked away to address the crew.
"Well, he sounds chipper this morning," Dad chuckled sarcastically .
I smiled and hugged him.
"I'm glad you came," I whispered.
"Always for you," he replied.
A couple of hours later we were working in the middle of the new refugee town. Dad never strayed far from me and I was both glad an annoyed.
I'm pretty sure the second one was my teenage emotions and wanting independence; however, Dad's right, being a Jedi paints a large target on me. An after what happened yesterday...
"Ezra?"
Shaking my head, I looked up to see him staring at me in concern.
"You okay?"
"Yeah, I was just thinking," I said smiling.
"Are you sure?"
I sighed crossing my arms.
"I'm fine Dad. Pease don't make a big deal out of it."
Still I couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong.
Kanan POV
I stared at him for a few moments before nodding.
"Alright then, let's finish up here."
Ezra nodded returning to his work. Still I wondered what might be going through his head.
A few hours later I felt a strong disturbance through the force. Looking around I tried to see where my son was but he was no where in sight.
'Ezra where are you?' I sent over our bond.
A loud scream was my answer. Racing toward the sound, a sense a dread formed in the pit of my stomach. Skidding around a corner, my dread turned into rage.
Several thugs had my son tied up in what looked like low hanging noose and his arms and legs were restrained. The group around him but I zeroed in on the one holding the blaster. Snapping my lightsaber together, I pounced. Faster than what they could comprehend, I sliced the ropes releasing my little boy and stood protectively in front of him.
"J.Jedi," one of them stuttered.
"If you value your life you will leave now," I threatened.
All but one took a couple of steps back and went to run when the one with the blaster started to laugh.
"Oh this is rich, a Jedi protecting a waste of space."
He has no idea who he is talking to. The thugs started to laugh as well though I could tell that theirs was forced.
"I don't know who you are or what you have against my son but I suggest you run while you can."
The man with the blaster raised it and fired. I directed it away with a growl.
"Uh Boss maybe we should go," one of the thugs whispered when shot hit near his feet.
"Shut up, I am going to right a wrong, thirteen years in the making."
Those words made my blood boil. Faintly I heard Ezra whimper snapping me back to reality.
"Over my dead body," I snapped retracting my lightsaber.
"Bad mistake Jedi," the man said.
Diving into the force I pushed them all as hard and as far as I could. Once they were gone I turned to Ezra.
"Ezra?"
Kneeling down, I quickly removed the ropes and helped him sit up.
"EJ, come on Buddy. Talk to me."
"Ow," he whispered holding his side.
Carefully I removed his hand to see it stained red. He flinched and started to shake.
"Easy Son, it's okay," I soothed. "I'm here, Daddy's here. I promise it's gonna be okay."
Ezra fell against my chest shaking uncontrollably.
"They came out of nowhere. I had just finished and they grabbed me..."
"Shh...it's okay. It's alright, they're gone now," I whispered pressing my hand against his on his side.
"Who was that guy?" He asked.
"I don't know, but don't worry about that. Let's go get you patched up," I said picking him up.
"Papa?"
I paused looking down at the boy.
"It's not true, is it?"
I knew what he was talking about. The way the guy talked, it must have cut Ezra deep.
"Don't listen to what he said Bubba," I whispered nuzzling his head. "You are the best thing in my life and you mean the galaxy to me."
Ezra grunted wrapping his arms around my neck.
"I'm sorry," he said.
"Come on, let's get you fixed up and then I'll take you home."
NPOV
As the two walked away the man that had the blaster watched.
"That brat...argghh! I should have killed him when I had the chance. Now he's being raised by a Jedi."
"Eh Boss, not to be disrespectful but uh...I thought you didn't want the kid in the first place. What's so bad about someone else is raising him?" One of the thugs asked.
"Because he wasn't supposed to exist at all! Mira and I were happy until that kid was born, then things went downhill. I swear I will end him and that Jedi."
I do hope you enjoyed and please let me know what you thought. Have an awesome day!!
