To Love a Child
I do hope everyone has a good day and please enjoy the chapter.
A short time later
Sabine POV
I was walking toward the galley when a high pitched yell came from the cockpit.
"You WHAT!?"
I started to go see what was wrong when Zeb placed a hand on my shoulder.
"Don't want to go in there, looks like Hera finally told Kanan about Ezra."
"Oh! You mean how she 'volunteered' him for the mission with Commander Sato?" I asked with a slight snicker.
"Yep, don't want to be her right now," Zeb said steering me into the common room.
Kanan POV
I was starting to get worried. I haven't seen Ezra in a long time and he wasn't answering his comm. Going into the cockpit I saw Hera running some diagnostics.
"Hun, have you seen Ezra? I can't find him anywhere," I said sitting in my chair.
"Hmm? Oh yes Dear," she said looking up. "I volunteered him for a mission with Commander Sato and they left early this morning."
I felt my eye twitch for a few seconds.
"You WHAT!?" I yelped jumping from my seat.
"Kanan, sit down," she ordered.
I sighed and did as asked.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"I just did," she said going back to her data pad. "Besides that was part of his punishment after the whole Hondo episode."
"Ok, I get that," I offered. "But why didn't you tell me before hand?"
"Because you always freak out when he isn't within running distance," Hera replied raising an eyebrow at me.
"I do because I worry about him. If you remember, people have always been trying to take him from me. Let's not forget that there are still two inquisitors after him."
"Kanan Love, please don't worry," she smiled placing a hand on my knee. "After all Ezra is a Daddy's Boy. No matter what kind of trouble he gets himself into, he will be just fine."
"He's a Daddy's Boy huh?" I chuckled.
"Yes a Daddy's Boy, your boy, now unless you want to help with these diagnostics I suggest you run along Dear," she teased.
"Message received," I replied getting up. "If you need me I'll be meditating."
Ezra POV
I sighed rubbing the sleep from my eyes.
"Note to self, don't take the Phantom without permission. I get it Mom," I mumbled quietly.
"Commander we are coming up on Lothal," a pilot informed.
"Excellent, be ready with the clearance codes," Sato instructed.
I grinned slightly standing up a bit to get a look at the planet. For the most part it seemed like it always did but I noticed that there were several patches of where the planet seemed charred.
"This isn't right," I whispered sitting down. "They're destroying it."

Sato looked over at the young boy, noticing the distress darkening his features.
"How long has it been you have been to Lothal?" He asked.
"A while," the boy said sitting back in his seat. "After the Empire forced us off the planet, Mom said that it was for the best that we stayed away. That way Lothal would be safe but I don't know..."
"I'm sure she thought she was doing what she thought was right," Sato mused quietly.
Ezra went to respond when a voice came over the com.
"Shuttle your clearance codes check out, you are authorized to enter the planet."
Commander Sato grinned and ordered the pilots where they were to land.
At the end of the day Ezra sighed sitting down on an empty crate.
"Good work today Young One," Sato praised coming up behind.
"Thanks, it feels good to be helping Lothal again," Ezra said turning to face him.
Commander Sato smiled and patted the boy on the shoulder.
"Don't worry, the Empire will be defeated in no time.
"That's what Mom always says."
"Your mother is a very wise woman," the man offered before walking toward the ship.
Ezra smiled and went to follow hoping to call his dad when a warning flared through the force. Diving to side he was surprised to see a blaster mark on the tree next to him. Looking off to the side he could see large figure duck behind a tree.
"Ezra are you alright? Sato asked rushing back outside, hearing the noise.
"I think so," the boy answered glancing back toward the tree line to see the figure had disappeared. "Weird."
"Are you sure?"
"I'm fine," he said getting up. "Might have just been a stray shot."
He hoped thats all it was.
"I see," the commander mused eyeing him. "Why don't you come inside and I'll see if we can't set up a call to the Ghost."
"You got it!"
Ezra POV
Later that night
I'm not sure what woke me. A warning through the force or my weird dreams, either way I was wide awake and had the strong urge to talk to my dad. Slipping out of the bunk, I quietly made my way toward the command center. Since a holo would be to loud, I found a spot and made myself comfortable. Taking a quick glance around to make sure that no one had followed, I relaxed and opened myself to the force.
"Papa!"
Kanan POV
After Hera told me that she sent Ezra on a mission with Commander Sato, I have been on edge. With the Inquisitors still out there I don't him far from me. It's not because I don't trust him, I just know he's still learning and can't take multiple targets at once. Sighing in frustration I slid out of bed and sat on my mediation chair. Hera was in a meeting and wouldn't be back for a while. Relaxing all of my muscles, I opened myself to the force and about fell over when Ezra's voice filled our bond. Diving into our shared space, I grinned seeing him.
Inside the bond
"Papa!" Ezra called running over.
"EJ," I knelt down to his level so I could hug him.
"I"m happy to see you," he whispered in my ear.
"I am too Little Light, but why did you come here? You could have just called, I would have answered," I said pulling back.
His face fell for a second before hugging himself.
"Something happened," he started. "A holo would have been to loud."
"Are you guys okay, what's going on?" I asked slightly panicking.
"We're okay," he said turning back around. "I was shot at today, don't worry it missed."
I sighed in relief and gestured for him to continue.
"I had dream and maybe even slight nightmare. I was on Lothal, that much I know but I was seeing things as if I wasn't there."
"Son you're not making sense," I said stopping him.
"I know, it's what happened that makes it weird. I was standing in the middle of the Prairie and then I blinked and I was inside a house. A man and woman were arguing while an infant was crying. When I got close to where the baby was I saw a woman lying on the floor, a blaster shot to the chest. Then I could hear what the other two where saying."
I could see that just how distressed he was becoming, so I wrapped my arms around him, hugging him close.
EJ you don't have to tell me anymore," I whispered.
"But I do!" He said, a few tears slipping down his face. "They were arguing over me!"
How do you know that?"
"The man said that thing is not worth living, and he was looking toward the crib. So I looked inside and it was me. Papa I don't understand," he said looking up at me.
Hugging him tighter I tried to comfort him but he wasn't having it.
"What does any of it mean!" He cried breaking from my hold.
"Ezra," I sighed looking down.
Now I know why he didn't want to do this over a holo. I always knew that this day would come, I just wish we weren't light years apart. Looking up, I noticed that he had his back turned to me.
"Ezra, I think you were seeing past memories. Memories I have been hiding from you for a long time. The story is very complicated and there are few pieces that are missing but I do know must of it."
He turned to me, his eyes screaming betrayal.
"Why haven't you told me? I deserve to know!" He cried angrily.
"I have been trying to protect you," I protested grabbing his shoulders. "You don't deserve the pain knowing what your birth father did to your mother."
Ezra stared for a few seconds in shock.
"It was that bad EJ," I whispered hanging my head once again. "Please try to understand."
I felt a few tears hit my hand. Looking up, my heart broke seeing his own heartbroken face. Pulling him into my arms, I held my child close. Whispering soft words, I tried to find a way to continue.
"Baby, I don't know why you are having dreams like this and especially now," I said a few moments later.
"While we were helping some of the citizens; there was this guy," he whispered. "He wouldn't stop staring at me. I didn't know who he was and then he showed up in my dream. I just..."

Kanan sighed rubbing small circles against Ezra's back and skull.
"Listen, it's gonna be okay, I promise. Once you get back, I...I promise, I will tell you everything I know. Okay?"
Ezra nodded suddenly feeling very sleepy.
"Its time for little padawans to sleep. Your day is done and now you can be assured, I love you and nothing will ever change that," Kanan whispered in his son's ear.
"I love you too, Papa," Ezra mumbled closing his eyes.
Opening them again, Ezra came out of meditation and yawned.
"There you are," Sato said softly so not to scare the boy.
"Sorry, I had to talk to my dad and thought a holo would be to loud," Ezra explained turning a light pink.
"It's fine Young One," the man said kneeling to his level. "Is everything alright though? I know you have been on edge since this afternoon."
Ezra nodded, quickly getting to his feet.
"I'm sure this afternoon was nothing more than an accident. I had a bad dream earlier and wanted to talk to Dad, that's all."
The commander nodded before ushering the younger off to bed. Little did they know, someone was watching the ship.
"That waste is still alive. That bug must have taken him after all. Heh, no matter, after tomorrow all will be rightened."
I do hope you enjoyed and please let me know what you thought!
Have an awesome day!!
