Those in Need Part Two

Here is the long awaited next chapter. Please enjoy!

NPOV

A short time later Kanan was knocked from his thoughts when a small voice called.

"Dad?"

Looking up he smiled seeing his son.

"Hey Buddy, what are you doing up?"

Ezra slid down the ladder and jumped up on top of the crate.

"I couldn't sleep anymore, so I came to see what you're up to."

"Well," Kanan chuckled handing him a data pad. "You could help me with some inventory."

"Okay."

"I fell bad for Mom," the boy said a few minutes later.

"Why's that?" Kanan said opening another crate.

"Because we failed to get those people the supplies they needed. They may not be alive by the time we get back to them."

Kanan nodded knowing the boy was right. They may get past the blockade, but the Ibarains may not even be alive to for them help.

"We need a better ship," Ezra said suddenly.

"What?"

Ezra blushed ducking his head.

"Don't get me wrong, the Ghost is an awesome ship but I don't think even its gonna be able to get past Kallus."

Kanan shut the lid and turned toward him.

"You know what Kid, I think you're right."

"But how are we gonna get a new ship?"

Kanan sighed.

"I don't know but maybe Sato will have a few ideas."

Ezra sat back and looked grinning like loth cat.

"What's that grin about?" Kanan asked not liking where his son's thoughts were heading.

"Wanna help me prank the others?"

Twenty minutes later father and son were fighting laugher as they watched Zeb and Chopper try and remove the ultra sticky paper.

"Karabast! Chopper if this is your idea," Zeb growled.

Chopper beeped that it was his fault and groaned as the paper became more stuck.

"Should we go and help them?" Kanan whispered.

Ezra shook his head trying hard not to blow their hiding spot. After a few more minutes the boys couldn't take it. They fell out of the cabinet laughing so hard they could barely breathe.

"Karabast Kanan! Kid!" Zeb yelped.

"Sorry Zeb but it was too good to pass up," Kanan choked trying to talk.

Ezra was gasping due to his laughter. Once they had control, Sabine decided to walk in, which sent them back into laughter. She was covered in glitter and had drawings over her face.

"Ezra I swear you are so dead," she seethed.

"Actually Bine, the glitter was my idea," Kanan said getting up.

"Dad!"

Kanan grinned and it only grew as Hera walked in. She wasn't pranked like the others but her face said it all. She was not amused.

"Kanan we're docked and Sato wants to see us immediately. Sabine go take a shower and Ezra, you Zeb and Chopper are going to clean up."

With that she walked out the door. The rest of the crew looked at each other not sure what to expect. They all turned to stare at their fearless leader as he began to chuckle.

"Eh, what did you do to Hera Boss?" Zeb asked.

"Nothing I can talk about," Kanan responded with a sly grin following after his wife.

The others watched wide eyed not sure what he was talking about until they heard a thump followed by "OW! Hera!" Ezra and Sabine looked at each other and blushed. Zeb shook his head and muttered something under his breath. Chopper just laughed. Not wanting to incur the pilot's wrath they set to work on their tasks.

Kanan POV

By the time we had returned to the Ghost, the boys had cleaned the common room and Zeb and Sabine were free of glitter and sticky paper.

"How did the meeting go?" Sabine asked as we entered.

I took a big breath and let out slowly. Hera scowled but kept quiet. She was still mad that I had volunteered her for this crazy mission.

"Your father has volunteered me to go check out a potential ship on Chantelpol," Hera finally spoke.

"Chantelpol!" Sabine yelped. "You're not going alone right?"

"You want to come?" Hera asked raising an eyebrow.

Sabine nodded and immediately scampered to her side. I grinned slightly at the action. Ezra gave me a look silently asking if he had to go as well. I shook my head before addressing the others.

"Alright since Sabine is going to go with Hera, Zeb I want you to go to. Never know when they will need some extra muscle."

Zeb let out a breath of annoyance.

"Alright fine."

We unattached from the rebel command ship and before I knew it we had made it to Chantelpol. Zeb andSabine made their way up to the Phantom while Hera hung back.

"Kanan what if we don't get back in time?"

"You will," I said.

"But I need to be here to lead the next mission," she argued.

Oh no she is not starting this.

"Well then you better hurry," I gave a grin.

She sighed and climbed up the ladder. I went to the cockpit and watched as the ship disappeared to the planet's surface. I let out a content sigh relishing in the quiet.

"So," Ezra piped up startling me.

Oh yeah, forgot he was still here.

"Since Mom's gone, I guess that makes me co-captain," he finished plopping down and spinning around in my chair.

Chopper squawked in annoyance.

"No! I'm co-captain!"

Maybe should have sent these two instead of Zeb and sabine.

"No, I called it and I'm the one in the chair!"

"No, you don't know what you are doing!"

"Dad!"

Time to nip this in the bud.

"You are co irritating, both of you," I snapped. "Doesn't matter whose in the chair. Now, strap in, we still need to pick up the replacement supplies."

Turning back to the controls I saw Ezra knock his fist against Chopper's drone and pull back with a smirk. Chopper squawked and started muttering about stupid Jedi.

Yep, definitely should have sent them instead of Zeb and Sabine.

About an hour into the hyperspace ride, Ezra sat back in his seat with a sigh.

"What's up?" I asked eyeing him.

"I'm tired," he yawned.

"We still have about an hour if you want to go take a nap," I offered.

"No cause then I won't be able to sleep," he argued.

I rolled my eyes and put the ship back in auto.

"Alright, what's going really?"

He looked out the windshield and seemed to curl in on himself.

"I'm sorry that I wanted to know so bad," he whispered.

Ah so that's what this is about.

"EJ," I said my voice softening.

He looked at me.

"I'm gonna tell you and more than likely I'll have to say it again. I don't blame for wanting to know about your past. I love you and no matter what you do or where you go, nothing is going to change that. Okay?"

He sighed but nodded in understanding.

"Okay."

"Good boy," I grinned ruffling his hair. "Now is there anything else?"

Ezra bit his lip and seemed to think it over and nodded his head.

"I've been having dreams about my birth father."

"Oh?"

"Yeah," he licked his lips nervously. "I think he was the one who attacked me on Lothal."

Wait what?

"Are you sure?" I asked.

He nodded his head. I felt my anger flare up at the memory of the man but quickly clamped it down before Ezra could feel it through the force.

"What makes you say that?"

"The way he talked and the way he looked at me," my son said looking at me. "I know it sounds crazy...."

"No," I interrupted. "It's not. What that man did to you is totally unacceptable. Next time we go to Lothal, you aren't leaving my side, okay?"

He agreed and decided that maybe he would try to take a nap. I sat back in my seat and shook my head. Chopper rolled in asking what was wrong with Ezra.

"He's okay Chop," I said. "Listen I need to meditate for a while, can you keep an eye on the ship?"

I guess he could see that I was troubled and agreed without question. I thanked him and turned over the controls. Walking pass Ezra's door, I could hear him tossing and turning trying to get comfortable. I opened the door and couldn't help but chuckle.

"It's not funny," he pouted. "It's to hot in here."

I walked in and pulled the blanket back. At least he removed his boots and jacket.

"I can stay in here and meditate if you like."

He sighed but nodded eagerly. I grinned and sat down on the floor by his head. Closing my eyes I emptied all my thoughts into the force and let the calm nature sweep over my boy. A few minutes later he was sound asleep. I grinned sensing how calm his thoughts were at the moment. It wasn't often we had this peace but when we do I relish every moment. However I couldn't help but wonder how Hera and the others were doing.
