Those in Need Part Three
Alrighty everyone, here is a super long update. I do hope you enjoy.
Kanan POV
After Ezra drifted off to sleep, I sat against his bunk and let my emotions go into the force. The familiar pull of a vision tugged at my conscience. Darkness. Wait why was it dark? No it's not dark, my eyes are just closed. I opened them only to hear my master's voice gently reprimand me. I closed them again realizing that I was reliving another old memory. She use to say that all senses are important but shouldn't rely on just one. So when we weren't learning about each other or other important Jedi stuff we would do this. Senses training as she called it. I tried this with Ezra once and it really did not go well.
"Caleb!"
My eyes shot up and I dodged just as her saber came down hitting my shoulder.
"Ow," my younger self whimpered holding my wrist gently.
Nevermind she had just hit my shoulder with a hot laser, my wrist was throbbing.
"What hurst?" She asked kneeling down.
I opened my mouth when a disturbance caught my attention. We both looked toward the temple to see a few of the masters pulling several initiates apart.
"Come on," My master whispered helping me to my feet.
About twenty minutes later the doctor was wrapping up my injuries.
"This is why you need to focus Caleb," the woman chided grumpily.
Not only was I known for asking a lot questions, I was also known for getting hurt. Just another trait I share with my son. As she finished I noticed how one of the masters for the younglings was dragging in one the the girls that I recognized from earlier and the master didn't not look happy.
"Now sit here and behave!" The older lady ordered before stalking out of the room.
The nurse sighed and went about gathering stuff for the young girl.
"Back again Nissa? What was it this time? Little one was asking for it?"
The Mirialan huffed refusing to make eye contact.
"Well in any case, you are becoming quite the handful," the woman fussed as she brought the stuff over to fix of the few cuts the girl had.
"Caleb you are free to go."
I blinked not realizing that I was staring.
"Yes Ma'am," I muttered leaving the room.
The scene quickly changed to the library. My young self was scouring thousands of titles to find one that was interesting. Since I wasn't paying attention I bumped into someone.
"Oh sorry," I said bending down to pick up the book that had fallen.
"Watch where you're going," the voice snapped.
I looked up to see the girl from the med center.
"I said I was sorry, um Nissa right?" I asked handing her book back.
"Yeah what's it to ya?"
"Nothing really," I shrugged. "Just trying to be nice."
Her face softened for a second and returned to it's hard experession.
"Oh, well uh be careful next time."
I watched her walk away and before I knew it my vision went dark.
NPOV
Kanan gasped suddenly feeling the ship fall from underneath him. Ezra woke up startled and before either of them had a chance to think they came crashing down with Ezra falling against his father.
Kanan let out a loan groan trying to grab his comm.
"Papa I, I didn't, what happened?"
Kanan finally grabbed the device.
"Chopper! What was that?"
The tiny droid could be heard laughing.
"We came out of hyperspace and their was an astroid."
"Yeah right," Ezra groaned. "Did he have to turn off the gravity?"
Kanan sighed before glancing back.
"Buddy, I love you but get off. I can't breathe."
The boy rolled off with an apology.
"Come on," Kanan said getting up.
The two went into the cockpit to see the tiny droid laughing directing the ship toward the command ship.
"Seriously Chopper," Ezra complained. "That hurt."
Kanan rolled his eyes and sat in the pilot's seat and hailed Commander Sato. Ezra huffed and jumped into the co-pilots seat.
"Kanan the supplies are ready for transfer," Rex said coming over the line.
"Thank you Rex," the man responded. "Say since Zeb is gone with Hera, we could use some extra muscle on board. Wanna join?"
"Is everyone gone?"
Before Kanan could answer Chopper's taser let out a low whine followed by Ezra giving a loud yelp.
"Chopper!" The boy growled throwing himself at the droid who dodged.
They ran from the cockpit as Kanan sighed.
"As you can hear, no, please come."
Rex chuckled stating that he would after the cargo was loaded. Switching to the ships internal comm Kanan called into it.
"Chopper get down to the ships magnetic lock to receive the cargo. Ezra come back up here."
About a minute later Ezra came tromping into the cockpit rubbing his arm.
"Yes?"
"Did you manage to get a hit on Chopper?" Kanan asked moving the ship to the side of the command ship.
"Almost," the boy said. "He kept moving at the last minute."
Kanan nodded his head and signaled chopper to begin the moving process.
"Guess we'll have to focus a bit more on anticipating opponents movements."
"How is it every time I do something wrong you turn it into a lesson?" Ezra asked slightly annoyed.
"Because I figured it would do a lot more good than just punishing you would," I chuckled.
Ezra crossed his arms with a pout.
"Don't give me that look," I said. "Besides Rex is coming aboard after we load the supplies."
"Wait, why are we loading the supplies onto the Ghost? That will make us the Empire's main target!" He yelped.
I sighed pushing a few buttons.
"I know but there was no guarantee that you mother would be back in time. Hopefully since the Ghost is smaller and faster, we can just slip right on by."
"You really believe that ?" He smirked sitting down.
"It makes me feel better when I say it," I snapped crossing my arms.
Ezra snorted and sat back. Chopper beeped saying that the cargo had been transferred.
"Thanks Chop," I said pushing a few buttons. "Alright Rex, I'm gonna swing around and attach to the air lock."
"Copy that," the clone answered.
"I'll go make sure there isn't any problems," Ezra said getting up.
"Hey," I said grabbing his arm. "I would never willingly put you in harm's way. Everything's gonna be fine."
He smiled and blushed slightly. Before I could question it, Ezra quickly threw his arms around my neck.
"I know."
I smirked and patted his back. He let go and scampered out of the cockpit. Turning back to the controls, I shook my head; teenagers.
NPOV
A short time later the small crew found themselves cruising along in open space.
"So there we were," Rex said telling Kanan another one of his adventures. "General Skywalker and General Kenobi facing down a gigantic battle droid. Skywalker turns to Kenobi and whispers, 'at least it can't get any worse.'" As if the thing heard him, it doubled in size. Kenobi gave Skywalker a dirty look, retracted his saber and said, 'nope, I'm done. Have fun,' and took off the other direction."
Kanan doubled over in laughter at mere image. He had only met Master Kenobi a handful of times but he knew a lot of his sassy spirit.
"Oh...haha... oh what did General Skywalker do after that?"
Rex smirked and started laughing harder.
"He...he...he...looked between to the two for a few moments and then looked at me. He said, 'Rex...good luck,' and took off. I swear that droid understood what had just happened because after that it shrunk down into this cute little droid. Even made the cutest sound. I just shook my head and walked back to the ship see the two of them arguing over the situation."
"Were they surprised you didn't come running back?" Kanan asked.
"Yep, they asked why I was so calm. I told them what the driod had done and boy did they both turn bright red. Even said that we were to never speak of this again. Of course I told Ashoka about it after she came along. She laughed so hard she was crying."
Kanan laughed so hard that he snorted which sent both of them into another fit of laughter.
"Oh man," he wheezed after gaining some control. "That reminds me of when I got my first tattoo. I was so drunk that I went and got the most ridiculous thing you could think of. After I sobered up and remembered what happened, I told myself that I wasn't going to let anyone see it. In fact instead of getting rid of it, I was going to keep it so I would remember to never get that slammed again."
"How bad could it have been? It's not like you have a flower or something," Rex said.
"Well I fixed it after Hera and I got married, changed it to green and added her name," Kanan answered with a laugh.
Rex shook his head and chuckled.
"At least you fixed it. How many do you have by the way."
"Four, the stupid one, Jarrus is across my shoulders, Ezra's name on my right arm, and I have a ring on my finger."
"Wow," Rex whistled. "That's not as bad as I thought."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"Now don't get me wrong but honestly I thought you might have something a little more extreme."
"Noooo," Kanan chuckled. "To make a long story short, I lost a card game with Janus and he got to pick my second tattoo. He chose a flaming skull. I'll tell you this thing was so creepy that when Ezra come into the picture, I begged Janus to let me get rid of it. He agreed that it might actually scare the baby and gave me the credits to do it. He said watching me squirm was a better consolation prize."
"Are you two talking about Dad's flaming skull?" Ezra asked startling them.
"EJ!" Kanan yelped turning to the young boy. "Hey Buddy, you done meditating?"
"Yeah, it's kind of hard to meditate when you can hear laughter from the cockpit," he said.
"Sorry young Jedi," Rex apologized.
Ezra smiled and walked up behind his father.
"It's okay Rex, besides the story of the how Papa got his rose is a lot better."
"I only told you that story so you would make good decisions when you get old enough for one," Kanan blushed.
"Yeah, don't get slammed before deciding on ink," the boy laughed.
Kanan shook his head and looked at the dashboard as Commander Sato appeared.
"Gentlemen, I have been contact with Ibarian resistance. We need to get to them immediately."
"Mom's not back yet, how are we going to get through the blockade?" Ezra asked.
Kanan placed a hand on his shoulder.
"We'll follow your lead, Commander."
Sato nodded and signed off.
"So not to be that guy, but how exactly are we going to be getting through that blockade without Hera?" Rex asked raising an eyebrow.
Kanan smiled at him.
"I knew there was more of reason besides me keeping you company," Rex said face palming.
Ezra still didn't like the idea and took a step back. Kanan noticed his nervousness and tried to lighten the mood.
"Don't worry Kid, I'm just as good as your mother when it comes to piloting. We are gonna be just fine."
Ezra though didn't look reassured but nodded anyway. He knew that he didn't have much of choice in this.
"Now all I have to do is tell Hera," the man said turning back to the controls.
"I'll leave you to it then," Rex said getting up.
Once he was out of the room, Kanan eyed his son as he took the open seat.
"I'm in the chair, I'm co-captain," he said. "Call Mom."
"You got it Son, hopefully she's within reach," Kanan answered.
I do hope you enjoyed this chapter and please as always let me know what you thought. Have an awesome day!!!!
