Those in need
Here's the new chapter. Please enjoy.
The following day the crew was gathered in the cockpit.
"We are almost to Ibar," Hera said pushing a few buttons. "Sabine contact the Ibarian resistance."
"I will need the clearance codes," the girl said stepping over the wall.
"I've got'em Hun," Kanan responded getting up.
After getting the codes inputted one of the Ibarian leaders came online.
"Phoenix Squadron, thank goodness."
"We are almost there," Hera responded. "What's your status?"
"The Empire has doubled our quota and cut our rations. Without this transport the weakest among us will starve," he said dejectedly.
"Stay strong my friend we'll be there soon," kanan reassured causing the man to smile.
"Our underground network is ready to receive."
"Tell them to keep a watchful eye; pulling out of hyperspace," Hera informed, pulling back on the yoke.
"Thank you Phoenix......."
"Transmissions are being jammed," Sabine yelped frantically trying to get the signal back.
The rest of the crew looked out the window to see several Imperial ships hovering over the planet.
Hera POV
I snorted slightly through my nose as everyone but Kanan left to man the guns.
"What are you thinking?" Kanan asked slightly concerned.
"That the Empire needs a better hobby," I bit out as Kallus's voice came over the line.
"Attention Rebels," his voice sounded calm but I could tell he was holding back irritation. "You are in an Imperial held sanction. Surrender now or be blown to pieces."
I went to respond but Ezra beat me to it.
"Ohh shut up and blow it out your exhaust Kallus!"
I bit my lip and stole a glance at my husband. He was holding his hand so a finger was over his mouth. Though I could tell he was fighting laughter. Zeb however let his laughter ring through the ship.
"That's a good one kid! Hahahah!"
Kanan snorted and sat back in his seat. Smirking I shut off the link and tuned it to the rest of the rebel ships.
"Attention pilots, Kallus is now irritated and he will send all of the ties at us. Stay sharp and protect that cargo."
They all agreed and I loosened my grip slightly. Kanan watched me worriedly.
"Those people are counting on us. I'm not going to let them down," I said tightening my grip again.
"Then let's go help them," he said sitting up straight.
"Phoenix Squadron. Attack formation!"
It only took a few minutes for everything to go wrong. I sucked in a breath watching the transport burst into flames.
"Hera!"
Quickly shaking my head, I ordered the remaining pilots to make the jump. Once in hyperspace I I took several deep breaths trying to calm my racing heart.
"Karabast, that could've went better," Zeb said walking into the cockpit.
"Now what?" Ezra asked coming in as well.
"We figure out a new plan," Kanan ordered standing up. "You guys go get some food and rest we'll be back with others soon enough."
After they left he turned his attention on me.
"You too."
"No, Kanan I have to..."
"No, you will take a break and I will contact Sato."
I tried to protest but I could see he wasn't going to no for an answer.
"Fine but come get me if there is a problem."
He nodded and I left the cockpit.
NPOV
Kanan steeled himself for the call to Sato. Punching in the codes, he waited for the man to appear.
"Kanan?" Sato questioned once he appeared. "This is a surprise. I take it the mission was a success."
"I wish it was but we ran into some difficulties."
Sato's face morphed into confusion.
"What kind of difficulties?"
"Kallus had a fleet waiting for us," Kanan responded. "We lost two pilots and the cargo."
Sato's face closed his eyes and took deep breath.
"I see, and the others?"
"Were able to get into hyperspace. Hera refused to leave anyone else behind. We have to help the Ibarians but we can't with that blockade," Kanan said crossing his arms.
"I understand, we will have a special meeting once you have arrived. Please inform Captain Syndulla."
Kanan nodded and sighed once the holo vanished. Getting up he headed into the common room.
"What the?" He yelped dodging a yogan as soon as the door opened.
"Sorry Dad!" Ezra grinned turning from the counter. "I was trying to be sneaky but I guess it didn't work."
"Do I want to know?" Kanan asked raising an eyebrow.
"Probably not Boss, Kid is weird," Zeb said from his chair.
Before Kanan had time to reply the same yogan flew past him and into Ezra's palm. Ignoring his son's misuse of the force the man walked further into room and sat down next to Hera.
"How did Sato take the news?"
Kanan glanced at Hera, frowning at how tense upset she looked.
"He is concerned and wanted to me to let you know we will have a meeting once we get back to Garel."
"Okay."
"Mom, you know what happened to the cargo wasn't your fault, right?" Sabine offered looking up from her data pad.
Hera sighed relaxing slightly.
"I was in charge of this mission and responsible for all elements. So, in turn I should have known that Kallus had to have known."
"Karabast, it's getting harder to out guess them, don't beat yourself up," Zeb said.
"Yeah Mom, besides when you think about it, going straight in to help the Ibarians would have been guessable," Ezra said biting into his fruit.
"What?"
The boy grinned and swallowed.
"The Empire always thinks inside the box and here lately so have us. We can still help those people but we need a new strategy. One that seems kinda of off the wall."
"Honey I love you but I'm not sure that's a good idea. If we were back on Lothal I would agree but out here thinking like that can get people killed," Hera smiled at him.
"Just trying to help," Ezra deflated slightly.
"But he is right," Kanan offered coming to his aid. "We need a plan but we aren't going to be able to plan anything running on fumes. Go get some sleep guys."
The others went to protest but he held up a hand.
"Everyone was up before the crack of dawn today and a nap will do us some good. Now cmon."
The three kids nodded and filed out the door.
"You too," he said turning to the pilot.
"Kanan I can't, I'm need to a diagnosis to make sure nothing happened to the Ghost and figure out a plan and..."
Rolling his eyes Kanan waved his hand in front of her face. Hera eyes widened before rolling back and she fell face first into his arms.
"Sorry Dear, but you were getting to worked up."
Picking Hera up he carefully carried her to their room and laid her down. After covering her with a blanket he pulled out his comm.
"Chopper, please keep an eye on the ship and let know when we are almost there."
"What are you going to do?"
"Some chores while Hera and the kids are asleep."
"Good, she needs the sleep."
"I agree, that's why I put her to sleep."
"She gonna kill you," the bot chirped with a gleeful chuckle.
"I know that but not for a few hours, so are you gonna help or not?"
"I'll help, but not for you. I do it for Hera and kids."
Kanan rolled his eyes and headed for the cargo hold. He knew that they need a way to help those people but for now he would let his family rest.
I do hope you guys enjoyed this chapter and please let me know what you thought. Have an awesome day.
