The Force's Children
Hello everyone! School is back in session around here so good luck to those that are back in class. I do hope you enjoy this chapter.
NPOV
Three months had passed without much to do. The rebels continued to search for a permanent base while continuing to mess with the Empire. Hera was enjoying her new position as Phoenix Leader knowing it was an honor but wasn't fully enjoying the stress it added on her family. However no matter how many meetings she has the Ghost crew stood by her.
"So glad to be home," she muttered walking up the ship's ramp, past a meditating Ezra.
"Mom?" He questioned opening his eyes, sensing her stress.
The pilot whirled around and glared at the poor boy.
"Yes?"
She didn't mean to snap but she was tired.
"Are you okay?" He asked getting to his feet.
"Yes, I'm fine, just a long meeting," she responded. "Now if you'll excuse me I have some ship diagnostics to run."
"But Dad already did it," Ezra responded.
"Oh he did, did he?"
Ezra nodded now slightly scared at her tone.
"Yes, he figured you would be exhausted after your meeting so the rest of us took care of your chore list today."
Like a switch had been flipped, Hera's mood softened. She felt a few tears slip out but quickly wiped them away.
"That's so sweet of you guys but I am more than capable of being able to handle a simple chore list. Now if you'll excuse me I have to go find your father."
And like that the switch flipped back. Ezra could only stare as the pilot turned on her heel and climbed up the ladder.
"Huh, Dad was right."
Kanan POV
I was in the cockpit running the last of the ship's diagnostic and waiting for Hera to return from her meeting.
"Kanan!"
Ah there's my lovely bride.
"Yes Dear," I asked spinning around to face her as she climbed up the ladder.
"Don't yes Dear me, why are you doing my chore list?" She fumed slightly.
I smirked slightly before schooling my expression.
"Well, you need your rest after a stressful meeting."
"Rest? I don't need to rest," Hera stated crossing her arms. "I can handle myself."
"Hera," I sighed pinching the bridge of my nose.
We seem to be having this argument at least once a week.
"You're three months pregnant. That means you need to take care of yourself, so you can take care of the baby. I know you don't want to be slowed down and seem like you can't do things like normal, so I'm not going to ask you to. Instead, I'm asking to let us help you."
She studied my face for a few moments before starting to cry.
"I'm sorry, I don't know what's wrong with me."
"You're pregnant, your emotions are all over the place. No one blames you for being a little crazy," I chuckled bringing her into a hug.
I felt her sigh breathing in the scent of my shirt.
"You're wearing my favorite cologne," she whispered.
"Of course Love," I said placing a kiss on her head. "Now, how about a nap?"
"I guess that does sound nice," she mused. "Alright you win, I'll go take a nap."
"Thank you."
I waited until she was out of ear shot before letting my body sag in relief.
"Is it safe?" Ezra asked popping up from the cargo bay
"For now," I chuckled turning to him. "Have you oiled Chopper yet?"
"No, he disappeared on me," Ezra said.
Rolling my eyes I grabbed my comm and called the missing droid. After he answered and said that he would come back, Ezra and I went to wait on the ramp. A few minutes later Chopper came slinking back trying to say that he was helping with some inventory.
"Nice try Chop," Ezra glared crossing his arms. "You knew I was supposed do some maintenance."
Chopper whirled softly acting like a wounded tooka.
"I'll leave it to you then," I said ruffling my boy's hair.
I chuckled listening as Ezra scolded Chopper and then set about working on him. Climbing back up the ladder I went to check on Hera and was glad to see her napping peacefully. Shutting the door I went back to the cockpit and picked up my datapad. About an hour later, I was woken up by the ship's comm beeping at me.
"Uh... yawn...this is the Ghost," I said not being able to help the yawn.
"I take it I woke you up?" Ashoka chuckled.
"No, no," I answered rubbing my eyes. "I was doing some diagnostics and it can beee... tedious."
It was quiet for a moment before Ashoka appeared over the holo.
"If you want a distraction I need to meet with you for something important."
I gave her raised look.
"Are you planet side because I really can't go and meet you in space."
She gave a small knowing smile.
"No worries I'm on the planet; I'll be by in about twenty minutes."
"See you then."
With that the transmission was cut. Sitting back in my seat I couldn't help but let out a small sigh. Looking down at the datapad I cringed trying to read it. Looking out the windshield I smiled seeing my son laugh as Chopper tried to run from him. Tossing the pad onto the dashboard, I slid down the ladder and walked over to the pair.
"Chopper giving you trouble, I see."
"Eh nothing I can't handle," Ezra chuckled grabbing the oil can.
Chopper beeped saying that he didn't need oiling but when he went to pull out his taser it gave a loud squeak.
"What was that?" Ezra snarked raising an eyebrow.
Chopper sighed in annoyance but didn't pull away when Ezra started oiling him. Twenty minutes later the kid was finished and Chopper rolled away in glee.
"It's hard to remember sometimes that he's a murder bot," I said rolling my eyes.
"He's just Chopper," Ezra said packing everything up.
I opened my mouth but decided not to comment on that.
"I see Chopper is in a good mood," Ashoka said suddenly appearing.
"More like he's just happy that i'm done with maintenance," Ezra responded getting to his feet. "What's up?"
"Ashoka and I need to have a meeting," I said ruffling his hair slightly. "So can you do me a favor and after you wash up, can you go check on your mom?"
"In other words your meeting is about important Jedi business and padawans aren't allowed?"
"I wouldn't say that, but your father is right. Someone should go check on Hera; today's meeting was really intense."

"Please Son," Kanan said giving the boy's shoulder a squeeze.
Ezra looked between the two before shrugging his shoulders.
"Alright, fine."
"Thank you," Kanan said.
After the boy disappeared into the ship, Kanan turned to address his friend. However the words died on his tongue. The Tortuga was staring at the ship with a sad look on her face.
"Everything okay?" He asked slightly concerned.
"We should go inside."
I hope you enjoyed this and as always please let me know what you thought. Have an awesome day!
