Legacy
I'm sorry this has taken so long. My husband and I have decided to divorce and that has taken up most of my time and unfortunately my will to write both my book series and fanfiction. So if I go another long period of no updates, I promise I haven't abandoned my stories. I love you guys for sticking with me and appreciate all your adds, likes, and comments and I thank you so much.
Please enjoy this chapter.
Ezra POV
It had been a few weeks since the mission to Lalrell. I had recovered for the most part but I still felt tired. Mom told me the doctors couldn't find anything but Dad didn't seem so convinced. I tried to ask him a few times but he would just smile and ruffle my hair. Not even the force was being helpful. After a long day, I was just about to fall asleep when I felt a familiar sensation flood my brain. I smiled reaching back. To most, it would seem weird to be interacting with my unborn sibling through the force but to me it was awesome. He couldn't talk obviously but he could sense my emotions just as I could sense his. An right now I could tell he was slightly annoyed.
'Mom?' I asked.
A sudden pulse.
'Don't worry little one, she's just stressed. Fighting a rebellion isn't easy,' I chuckled.
Another flair came to which I shook my head fondly. If this kid is like this now, I could only imagine what he was going to be like when he's born.
"Come in?" I called out after someone knocked on my door.
The door slid open revealing Dad a slightly amused look on his face.
"What?"
"Nothing," he smirked. "I think it's cute that you and the baby are already getting along, considering you aren't the youngest anymore."
I snorted sitting up.
"Yeah well, he's not here yet so I am keeping that title."
Dad shook his head and sat down beside me.
"Still think the baby is going to be a boy?"
"I know he's a boy," I said crossing my arms. "If he isn't then we are going to be having a long conversation when he does get here."
Dad sighed wrapping an arm around my shoulders.
"I don't care either way, just as long as they are healthy."
I leaned against him listening to his heartbeat. I felt a gentle nudge wondering what happened to me. I smiled and sent back a safe content feeling letting him know that everything was okay.
"You know, I'm the father and the baby connects to you before he does me, how fair is that?"
"Maybe he just likes me more," I smirked.
Dad laughed pulling me closer.
"I remember the first time I had to explain to you about how we were family. You were only five at the time and a few older boys had told you that you couldn't be my kid. You were so upset that you even tried to run away. Luckily I caught you before you got far."
I raised an eyebrow wondering where he was going with this?
"Uh, Dad? Why are you telling me this?"
He sighed giving my shoulder a squeeze.
"I don't know, I'm just feeling nostalgic I guess."
I smiled before giving him a hug.
"Don't worry, no matter how old I get. You'll always be my Papa."
Dad sighed nuzzling my hair gently.
"I'm glad to hear Buddy, now get some sleep we're gonna do some training tomorrow."
I grinned hearing that. It had been almost a week since our last session and I was itching to do something more than meditating. Dad shook his head fondly at but pulled the blanket over me as I laid down.
"Good night Son, peaceful dreams," he whispered running his hand through my hair.
After a few minutes, I drifted off.
Dream
I was meditating in the middle of what looked like the plains on Lothal. Multiple loth cats pranced and played pulling me from my focus. One came up to me wanting some attention.
"You're so cute," I chuckled scratching it behind the ears. "Too bad Mom won't let me keep you, otherwise I would take you home."
It let out a meow before running off into the grass and I quickly followed. After a little bit, I lost track of the little cat.
"Hey, where did you go?"
The grass rustled loudly in front of me and out popped a white loth cat. My eyes widened at the sight of it. White loth cats are a rarity, wild ones even more so.
"Hey little guy," I whispered kneeling in front of it.
The cat sniffed my outstretched hand before hissing at me.
"Hey it's okay I'm not going to hurt you," I tried to soothe.
However, the loth cat was not having it. Getting up I backed away slowly but that only made it angrier. I decided to try and make a run for it but before I could the cat let out a screech and disappeared back into the grass.
"Okay that was weird," I said relaxing.
"Ezraaa," a voice cooed gently.
A voice that sounds just like Mom.
"Mom?"
"Ezra," Dad called.
"Dad? What's going on? Where are you?"
"Ezraaaa," both called.
Freaking out a little I started running towards them but the more I ran the further away they sounded.
"Mom! Dad!" I yelled for them but no one answered.
Skidding to a halt my ears started ringing as the force swelled around me. I sank to the ground trying to block out the noise only there was no ground. I fell through and landed hard in an unfamiliar place. Sitting up I could hear loud voices.
"What are you doing?"
"Isn't it obvious? I want him and you're in my way."
"Stay away from him!" the first voice yelled.
"Don't worry your pretty little head. I will take good care of him."
I got a really bad feeling and started toward the voices. The more the two yelled the familiar the first voice sounded.
"Ezra!"
My feet quickened.
"Dad!" I called for him but it seemed the faster I went the further away he became.
"Ezra!" He screamed a desperate tone in his voice.
The force let out a warning as something ran past me. I halted as whatever it was turned around and yellow eyes appeared.
"Dad?" My voice cracked.
The growling continued.
"Papa!"
The eyes lit up and I began to see several different scenes. Looking around a rock formation watching as someone fired a blaster, Mom was yelling something, and what really freaked me out was the sound of menacing laughter and the sense of impending doom settling deep inside my gut. The yellow eyes appeared once more.
"Who are you?"
The eyes came closer as the growling got louder.
"Please, tell me what's going on?"
The force let out a shrill screech jerking me back to the waking world.
NPOV
The teen yelped as he fell out of bed. With shaking limbs he sat up trying to get his breath back.
"What was that?" He whispered glancing around.
Stretching out into the force he didn't sense any danger but a thread of urgency seemed to stick out that wasn't there before. He knew that if he had any possiblity of going back to sleep, he would need to seek out Kanan. Getting up the boy made his way over to the door when a loud growl tore through the room.
"DAD!"
In the common room, Kanan rubbed his eyes as he stared at the holo map.
"Hera we've been at this for a few hours why don't we call it a night?"
The pilot sighed leaning against the table.
"Kanan we need to find a permeant base. So far I haven't seen anywhere that will do."
"Maybe you're just being picky," Kanan snipped tiredly.
"Maybe I have to be," she responded rubbing her swollen belly.
Kanan smiled taking her hand.
"I know, I'm sorry, but you need to take care of yourself as well."
Hera nodded and sat down saying they would look for thirty more minutes.
A few minutes later Kanan's head snapped up looking towards the door.
"What is it?" Hera asked.
"DAD!" Ezra cried out.
Kanan jumped up to go see what was wrong when his boy came through the door plowing straight into him.
"What's wrong Son, what happened?" He questioned concerned by the way Ezra was shaking.
"Something's coming for us!" Ezra yelped clinging to Kanan.
Hera reached for her com to warn Commander Sato when a thought struck her.
"Ezra did you have a bad dream or was it a vision?"
The boy mumbled something.
"What was that Kid?" Kanan asked pushing him back a bit.
"I don't know, at first it started off as a dream but then it became a vision. So I don't know what to believe."
Kanan sighed running a hand through his kid's hair.
"Ezra you know you can't always take force visions at face value."
"I know," he said looking around, "But this one was so real I just know somethings about to happen. I keep hearing this growling and these yellow eyes...I just know it!"
The two parents exchanged a glance.
"Okay," Kanan whispered placing his hands on Ezra's shoulders. "Why don't we meditate a bit and see if we can make some sense of this?"
Ezra nodded before going back to his room.
"Do you really think something is going to happen?" Hera asked once he was out of earshot.
Kanan turned back to her a serious look on his face.
"I'm not sure but something has him freaked out, so why not humor him and see what's going on."
Hera nodded and Kanan walked out of the room. Sitting back Hera looked at the map of the possible bases. She had learned to trust her Jedi when they said something was up but Ezra was young, he made mistakes, misinterpreted things. Surely everything was going to be fine. The baby shifted as if to say otherwise.
"You think something is going to happen too, don't you?" She whispered rubbing her belly.
A tiny kick was her answer.
"Alright," she whispered grabbing her comm.
Kanan POV
As I walked toward Ezra's room I tried to keep the niggling feeling of dread down. I didn't want to say it in front of Hera but Ezra was right about something happening. I had been getting dreams like him but I really couldn't make sense of it. Reaching his door I lifted my fist to knock when it slid open.
"Ezra?"
The boy was sitting against his bunk looking slightly freaked out. Hoping to make him feel better I went over and sat down beside him.
"So long day?"
Ezra huffed curling into a smaller ball.
"It's real, isn't it? My dreams..."
I sighed bringing my knees up.
"Yeah Buddy, I've been getting them too."
"Have you been hearing growling in yours?"
I had to bite my tongue. If I wanted to be in denial I would say he was hearing things but I knew better. I guess my dreams have finally bled over to him.
"Did you actually see what it was?"
"No," Ezra shook his head. "But whatever it was it was big and had yellow eyes."
Yellow eyes? I tried to think of any creature that wasn't force related that could have yellow eyes but none came to mind.
"Papa?"
I shook my head looking down at Ezra.
"What are we supposed to do? What does it all mean?"
Wrapping an arm around my Son, I brought him closer to me.
"I'm not sure what it means but I can promise you that we will handle it together."
Ezra sighed relaxing against me.
"The baby knows that something is wrong too."
I couldn't help but snort at that.
"Does he talk to you?"
Ezra shrugged his shoulders the vision fading from his memory.
"Not exactly it's more like he can sense my feelings and I can sense his. I can talk and the baby will send back whatever emotion."
I couldn't stop the grin spread across my face.
"That is both weird and amusing. Like I said earlier I'm the father but he doesn't do that to me."
"What was it you said about me having deeper connection abilities?" He snarked.
"True but still...."
"Maybe you need to work on connecting," he said sleepily.
Rolling my eyes I straightened my posture.
"Since you're so full of it why don't we meditate until you fall asleep."
Ezra groaned but followed my example. Now that I wasn't fighting my brain to keep my dreams hidden, it came back with vengeance.
NPOV
Kanan grunted as the cruel laughter filled his ears. He has never been able to figure out who it belonged to but paused when a new voice appeared.
"Well if it isn't my old friend."
Whirling around Kanan gasped in shock. Standing behind him was the seventh sister only she was free from the helmet, her brown coming down in loose waves.
"It..it can't be," the man stuttered. "I thought that...."
The inquisitor laughed crossing her arms.
"Thought what? I had died with everyone else? You left me, Caleb," she spat.
"Nissa," Kanan whispered. "When the Jedi fell I was alone and I couldn't go back to the temple. I didn't know who was still alive. I'm sorry."
Nissa snorted her eyes hardening.
"Doesn't matter I will find you and when I do Lord Vader will reward me well."
Kanan opened his mouth to protest when the force let out a warning.
"Well it seems your offspring has different ideas," she said fading away.
Before he could react the man was jerked back to the waking world.
