A New Friend Part Four

I do hope you guys enjoy this chapter!

Thirty minutes later

NPOV

Ezra wiped the sweat off his brow and smiled at his work. With a total of thirty crates in all, he was able to negotiate Hondo into giving him ten crates with six generators in each crate.

'Maybe this will keep Mom from grounding me till I'm thirty,' he thought to himself.

"Well Jaba, you drive a hard bargain but as promised 10 crates of heat generators. Tell me why do you need so many?"

Ezra looked at him for a second trying to come up with a good story.

"A haul like this will feed my crew for a couple of months," he said giving him sad look.

In truth something like would feed his family for a few months but he still didn't trust Hondo fully to tell him the truth.

"Admirable you are, Jabba," Hondo said and patted his shoulder.

Ezra smiled and let it fall when the pirate walked away.

"I'm not admirable," he sighed quietly leaning against the wall.

Kanan POV

I have been searching for Ezra's signature for the past two hours and haven't been able to locate it.  I didn't want to tell Hera but I know his disappearance had something to do with training this morning. His words ran through my mind again.

'As a solider, you are going to have to learn how to prioritize your time.'

'He's not a solider, he's a Jedi.'

'What if I don't want to be either?'

"Ezra, hope you're alright," I whispered coming out of meditation.

Getting up from my chair I grabbed an old holo and popped it into the player. A picture of a small boy smiling brightly as he played in the tall grass around the ship appeared.

"EJ," I whispered sitting on the bed holding the projector in my hand. "Use to, you would run to me when there was a problem. Why did you run away? I know you want to make me proud, but Son, is all the Jedi training worth it?"

"The answer is yes, Kanan," Hera said startling me.

"Hera!" I yelped shutting off the holo.

She smiled and walked in, sitting down beside me.

"I remember this," she said turning the projector on. "It was right after his first recon mission. We took a day off and went swimming. I remember Ezra was so terrified until you pushed him to get in the water."

I chuckled remembering that day as well.

Flashback Nearly Seven years ago

NPOV

Ezra whimpered staring at the large body of water. After almost drowning, he didn't want to be anywhere near water for a long time.

"It's okay Son," Kanan soothed scooping the boy up.

"I don't wanna," the child cried quietly burying his face against the man's shoulder.

"I know, but I'm here, it's okay," Kanan said hoping he sounded convincing.

After everything that had happened, he wanted to lock Ezra in his room and never let him out but he also knew that wasn't an option.

"Don't worry, no one is going to hurt you," he said rubbing the boy's trembling back. "I promise."

Ezra held onto his father's neck and trembled harder. Deciding there was only one way to help his son, Kanan went forward, stepping into the lake.

"No! No Daddy!" Ezra cried out in terror, fighting to get down but Kanan held firm.

"EJ! Son listen to me," the man said sternly quieting the boy's cries. "I know what happened was horrible. Heck it terrified me but I promise that nothing is going to happen. It's just you, me and Hera. No men, no crates, I promise you're safe."

The child stared at him for a few seconds before hiccuping. Kanan's stern face melted into a soft smile and held up his hand.

"You and me Bubba?"

Ezra looked between the man and his hand for a minute or two and then smiled.

"You and me Papa," he said placing his little hand in Kanan's, clasping the two together.

Present

Kanan POV

My boy is definitely something. Turning off the projector, I turned to Hera.

"I really did it this time."

She smiled at me took my hand.

"You love him and only want what's best," she said. "I know training has been getting harder for him with you and Rex arguing still."

"Which is why you're in here, to blame me for Ezra running away, right?" I sighed.

"I was, but since you're already beating yourself up, I would say I don't have to," she chuckled.

"Hera," I groaned falling onto my back.

"Hey you're the one arguing with Rex," she said laying down beside me. "Why are you arguing with him, I thought you liked him?"

"I do," I said placing an arm behind my head. "It's just his ideas of how Padawans should be trained don't exactly work now a days. All I'm trying to do is make sure he grows up right and is able to defend himself. Rex wants to make him a child solider."

"Then why don't you talk to Rex and tell him that?" Hera asked turning to me.

"I don't know," I sighed sitting up.

"Any luck locating him?" She asked sitting up as well.

"I haven't been able to track his signature. I know he's still alive, because the bond is still there, it's just muted," I sighed.

"Well I know where they are," she said smugly getting up.

"Really, where?" I asked jumping up.

"Vizago's ship, heading to a trading station in the Fallstar system."

"Vizago's?... What in the galaxy are they doing there?!"

"Weeellllll...from what I could get when Chopper radioed in; the Broken Horn called for help and your son being the person he is, went to the rescue. Only Vizago wasn't the one to call for help. The famous pirate Hondo Ohnaka did and somehow tricked Ezra into helping him," Hera said with an unamused expression.

"Hondo? You mean the crazy pirate, that Hondo?" I asked.

"The very one," she said rolling his eyes.

You know I remember Janus talking about him, but I thought he was dead."

"Apparently not," Hera muttered. "Still I don't like the idea of Ezra being around him.

"Neither do I. If what Janus said was true then there's no telling what kind of trouble they can get into," I said walking to the door.

"Which is why we aren't going after them," Hera responded.

NPOV

Spinning around Kanan gave his wife an almost fearful look.

"Please tell me you are joking," he begged.

Hera raised an eyebrow and smiled.

"You're not joking," Kanan said wide eyed. "What if something goes wrong?"

"Nothing is going to go wrong Dear," Hera said glaring at him.

"How do you know that?" Kanan asked.

"Because I have faith in my son. Maybe you should too," she said before leaving Kanan alone.

Chopper POV

We finally reached the trading station and I notcied Ezra seemed on edge.

"Don't do it, bad idea," I chirped at him.

"It will be fine Chop," he said as Hondo appeared.

"Welp let's get this over with," he said with a toothy smile.

Ezra let out a breath and put on his helmet. Hondo grinned and pushed a button allowing the floor of the cargo hold to lower.

"Hopefully we can walk away, in mostly one piece," Hondo said adding the last part under his breath as he walked toward the bay doors.

"We're in trouble," I beeped hoping to get the teen to see reason.

"I know we're in trouble," Ezra snapped tapping his wrist comm. "Keep your comm on and I'll signal if we need help."

I sighed this was not going to end well.

"Be careful," I beeped.

Ezra smiled and patted my dome and followed Hondo. Watching him leave I couldn't help but  have a bad feeling about this.

I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter and please let me know what you thought. Have a wonderful day!
