Child of the Ghost part four

A month later/ NPOV

Kanan sighed as Ezra bounced along at his side. He couldn't believe that Hera had sent him on a supply run today. He wanted to train with Ezra but the Twi'leck declared that they were out of certain items that had to be purchased immediately. Seeing how it was a beautiful day Kanan decided to bring Ezra along hoping to get some training done. However a bad feeling gnawed at the back of his mind.

"Why couldn't we have brought Chopper?" Ezra half complained.

"Because Hera needed to do a few repairs on him after someone got him wet," Kanan said giving the boy a pointed look.

"I didn't mean to do it, he scared me," Ezra muttered crossing his arms.

"Well, you'll learn not to leave the fresher door unlocked," Kanan said with a slight chuckle remembering the incident.

The poor kid had been taking a shower when Chopper rolled in to scare him. The plan worked except the boy had used the force and drenched the droid. Kanan ran in upon hearing Ezra's scream and saw the mess.

"I still didn't mean it," Ezra said breaking Kanan from his thoughts.

"I know but don't worry he'll be fine. Hera said that he just needs to dry out," Kanan said pausing for a moment.

Ezra turned to stare at him.

"Papa?"

Kanan POV

I couldn't explain it but the bad feeling I had grew in intensity. My eyes sight blurred as I was drawn into a vision. Every where I looked I could see destruction, people screaming for loved ones, my own voice joining them, and the pearly white of stormtroopers uniforms. I couldn't understand what was going on. I didn't see Ezra and that worried me. Where was he and was he alright? Just as quickly as it came the vision was gone. I woke up to see that I was on the ground and Ezra shaking my shoulders.

"Papa! Papa, wake up!" He cried.

"Shh....it's alright, it's alright," I told him sitting up rubbing my head.

"You scared me," he said wiping the tears away as I stood up.

"I'm sorry," I smiled, gently scooping him up as I did so many times before.

"So what happened?" He asked as we continued on our way.

"I'm not sure but whatever it was, something is definitely going to happen?"

Ezra relaxed and by the time we reached the city he had begun to doze. I jostled him a little and sat him on his feet.

"Ok, since I don't want to be here for long, why don't you get some of this stuff?" I asked him.

"Sure," he chirped.

I split the list and handed him the credits he needed.

"Be careful," I told him ruffling his hair.

"Don't worry," he said. "I love you," he said hugging me.

"I love you too," I said squeezing him back.

I watched him disappear into the crowds and I went my direction ignoring the force whispering in my ear.

About an hour later was when everything came crashing down. I had just gotten everything on my list and was heading off to find my so, but when I reached the main square a blast erupted slamming me into a building.

I'm not sure how much time passed but when I woke up I had a horrible headache. I looked around the area to see several buildings demolished and people searching frantically for their loved ones. Where was Ezra? Was he near the blast, was he alright? I couldn't see him and not knowing made me sick.

"EZRA! *cough* *cough*," I called choking on the smoke.

Unfortunately I attracted the attention of several troopers. They surrounded me quickly recognizing who I was.

"You are under arrest for treason," one said.

Like I had the time to mess with them. I needed to find Ezra.

"Out of my way!" I growled trying to barrel my way through.

In my weakened and distracted state, the troopers were able to overpower me. The last thing I saw was a rifle coming down on top of my head, knocking me out. When I woke up I realized that I was in a prisoner transport. Using the force I unlocked my restraints and jumped on top of the transport. I looked desperately for Ezra but he wasn't there. I jumped off the carrier and grabbed my com link.

"Spector 1 to Ghost!"

"I read you Spector 1, what's wrong?" Hera asked with a hint of worry.

"A bomb went off and I need a pickup now!" I shouted running back to the city.

"Where's Spector 3? Is he with you, is he alright?" Hera started to sound like a panicked mother.

"No, we were separated, I have no idea where he is and I need to find him!" I shouted the terror rising every second.

"I'll be there soon, just hold on," she said before the line went dead.

It didn't take long for me to reach the city and then it hit me. MY VISION!

TIME SKIP

Hera and I searched for hours but there was no sign of him. As I walked up the ramp to the ship, I felt the tears welling up. Ezra was missing and it was my fault. I shouldn't have split the list. Chopper waited patiently but he asked where his friend was.

"Chopper, we don't know where Ezra is?" Hera explained gently.

The droid beeped asking what happened. Hera turned to me asking the same thing.

"I split the list so we could get done faster. I was on my way to find him when the bomb went off. When I woke up troopers were dragging me off to a prisoner transport but I fought back until one of them knocked me out. When I came to again I was at least two miles out and once I was free I ran back to the city to search. I couldn't find him. I have got to be the worst father in the galaxy!"

I couldn't help it; sinking to my knees I let my pent up emotions and frustrations go.

"Is there a possibility..." Hera started but couldn't finish her sentence.

"No...NO! I am not going to give up. I wont stop searching until he is back in my arms," I shouted jumping to my feet.

Hera smiled before noticing my injuries.

"Come on let's get you taken care of."

Ezra POV

I'm not sure what happened I had just finished getting everything when I felt a warning through the force. I turned toward the center of the square when a blast went off. I was knocked into the wall and was out like a light. When I came to, it was dark. The part of the city I was in was smoking and I was covered in rubble from the building. I could hear people screaming for loved ones and I wondered where Papa was. Normally he would be near by or with me but he was no where in sight.

"Papa!" I cried out starting to feel scared.

No response, now I was terrified. Normally I would stay put and wait but the force was telling me that i should head back to the ship.

"Well he did say to trust the force," I said grabbing my back pack that was still full of food.

I vaguely remembered where the ship was parked so steeling my resolve I set off.

NPOV

Ezra watched the people scramble through debris as he walked by. He didn't know that some were looters until one stopped him.

"Hey Boy..." the alien slurred at him obviously high on a fix.

Ezra backed away from him not liking the situation.

"Come here, I ain't gonna hurt ya," the creature cooed coming closer.

"Stay away from me,"Ezra said.

"Aw where's your family?"

Ezra closed his eyes and tried to will Kanan to him but when he opened them he could still see the roadian.

"None of your business," he tried to sound tuff but failed.

"Ooh, I'm so scared. What's in the bag?" He said trying to snatch the pack.

Ezra, however,  was faster and ran leaving a disgruntled alien staring at him muttering. Ezra kept running until his legs gave out. He was scared and wanted his daddy.

"PAPA!"

The next morning Kanan woke with pain in his back and head. He groaned sitting up.

"I guess the adrenaline wore off?" Hera asked coming into the room.

"Must have, any news?" Kanan asked hopefully.

Kanan POV

Hera looked at me like she was about to cry and left the room. Despite the pain I felt I followed her to the common room. I could hear her crying and Chopper beeping in comfort.

Suddenly I heard Ezra's voice.

I rushed in to see Chopper playing a video of his first memory of Ezra.

Flashback A month ago

Ezra sat curled up in my lap as Hera and I worked on the droid. The poor kid had been sick with a nasty cold and it honestly had me worried. He had been sick before but only for three four days tops not fourteen. Ezra shifted and whimpered clutching my shirt tight in his fist.

"Ez, do you want to go back to bed?" I whispered in his ear.

"No," he mumbled sleepily. "You promised we would do this together and I can't do much if I'm sleeping."

"I know I know, trust me you're helping , but if you need to lay down I understand," I said wrapping my arm around him.

He looked up and I hated to see that feverish look in his eyes. Ezra slowly shook his head and laid it back against my chest. All the while Hera was smiling at us.

"What?"

"Oh nothing," she with a smirk.

"Ok, why don't you tell me how's it coming?" I asked.

"We are done," she declared shutting the opening.

I gently shook my boy's arm.

"Come on Son, we're done."

"I wasn't sleeping, I just shut my eyes," he defended rubbing the sleep from his eyes.

"Of course not, ready to meet your new friend?" I turned him so he was facing the droid.

"Yay, friend..."

Hera smiled and turned it on. The droid beeped looking at Hera before turning to me and Ezra. The Kid reached out and placed his hand on the dome.

"We are going to be the best of friends," he whispered patting the dome.

"What are you going to call him?" Hera asked.

"Chopper, I think he looks like a Chopper," Ezra said yawning.

The driod beeped at him as I cradled Ezra's body to me, willing him to sleep.

Present

I smiled at the memory before steeling my expression. My son was out there and he needed me.

"Hera, I'm going back out there. Stay here in the off chance that he shows up and then comm me."

She nodded and I turned to walk out when a rumble of thunder sounded.

"Oh no," I muttered, thunder was the last thing I wanted to hear.

ZZZZAAAAPP! BOOM!

"AHHH!" Came a fearful scream.

Hera and I looked at each other before bolting to the cargo hold. Slamming the button, the ramp lowered. Nothing but dark clouds and lighting greeted us. I walked out despite the risk, my heart telling me that Ezra was out here. Thunder boomed again and I heard it. A quiet whimper, from a frightened child. I remembered the last time it stormed on Lothal.

Flashback Seven years ago

ZZZZAAAAPP! BOOM!

The thunder was not what woke me. It was the fearful scream from Ezra that did. I jumped out of bed and stepped over to his crib.

"Oh what's wrong Baby Boy," I cooed, picking him up.

He started crying as the thunder sounded again.

"Shh...shh...it's alright," I said placing his head against my shoulder.

He cried out when lightening flashed. Placing my head on his I gently began to rock him, my down hair acting like a veil from the storm. I glanced at the clock to see it was two in the morning, Empire Day, Ezra's first birthday.

Deciding to go back to bed I laid Ezra on my chest. He clutched my hair in his tiny fist trying to suck on it.

"Ow, Son I know you're scared but that is attached, ow," I muttered working the hair free.

Ezra whimpered his hand clawing at something to hold onto. Taking it into my own, I began to sing to him.

"Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear EJ, happy birthday to you," I sang softly in his ear.

Present

Ezra whimpered again bringing me back to reality. Taking my hair from its ponytail, I crawled under the ramp. There he was, my precious baby boy; mud covered and clutching his bag to him.

"Papa!" He cried out.

"EJ," I cooed reaching out for him.

Ezra's head snapped up. After about ten seconds, he lunged forward sobbing into my chest.

"Shh...shh...it's alright," I whispered, my hair acting as a veil from the storm.

The kid continued to cry and blinked back tears of my own. Ezra was back home safe and sound and that's all that mattered in that moment.

"I could end it here but I really don't want to so enjoy a little extra."

NPOV

It had been a few weeks after the bomb incident. Hera was in the cockpit doing some diagnostics when Chopper rolled in chirping fanfare.

"Bauwgh,Bauwgh, Bauwgh!"

Hera POV

Chopper rolled in singing fanfare and honestly it was pretty funny. Kanan came in a few seconds later with a smiling Ezra on his shoulders. He was wearing the new clothes Kanan had bought him for his birthday.

"Presenting the Birthday Boy! Now Eight year old EZRA JARRUS!" Kanan announced as the boy grinned.

"Thank you, thank you please no autographs. I can't write that well," he said trying to sound macho.

I couldn't help it, he is just to cute.

"Oh please, just one little autograph for me?"

Ezra laughed before Kanan sat him on his feet.

"Well, I got something better," he said walking over to me.

Ezra reached up and gave me a hug and kiss on the cheek. I was stunned and glanced at Kanan who was smiling.

"It was what he wanted to do for his birthday," he said.

I grabbed Ezra in a hug, pulling him close.

"Happy Birthday Sweetheart!"

He smiled before turning back to Kanan.

"You gonna ask her?"

Kanan knelt down and Ezra ran right to him hugging him tight. The sight was sweet, ever since they were separated Kanan has barely let the boy out of his sight and was holding onto him a little tighter at night.

"Ask me what?" I said eyeing them.

Kanan smiled before fishing something out of his pocket. I could see a cord but thats about it.

"The clothes were only a small part of my gift to you Son. This is another."

Kanan put the item around Ezra's neck and he looked at strangely.

"What is it?"

"This is a little medallion of mine. No matter where you go or what you do, I will always be with you. Never take this off."

"I promise," Ezra smiled hugging Kanan tight. "Thank you."

"You're welcome, now my question."

Kanan stood up and patted Ezra on the head before turning to me.

"Hera I know when we were younger you had a crush on me and these last few months have been wonderful rebuilding that friendship. I know my feelings for you and if I had to guess you feel the same way."

He got down on one knee and honestly I was about to cry.

"Hera, you are the most wonderful woman I have ever met. You are one of my best friends and even when we split ways you didn't forget about me. You are helping me raise my son and you are the love of my life."

Now I was crying.

"Will you marry me?"

I glanced at Ezra to see him smiling and looking at Kanan,  there was only one answer.

"Yes."

Kanan POV

She said yes, she said yes! Ezra whooped and I grabbed Hera into a big hug and kissed her. We stayed like that until I felt a weight against my leg. Ezra had joined the embrace. Hera smiled warmly before reaching down and picking him up.

"Does this mean Hera is going to be my mommy?" He asked innocently.

I looked at them. Hera holding Ezra, the way it's suppose to be.

"Yes Son, that is exactly what it means.

Ezra POV

Hera is my new mom and I couldn't be happier. She was already like one to me and now it's official. This is the best birthday ever!

Bet ya'll didn't see that one coming. Anyway thank you for all of the readings and the reviews. Hope you enjoyed this part.
