NPOV
The preteen huffed as him and Kanan walked a little bit away from the cantina.
"Why are we training today? I thought it was my birthday," he complained.
"Says the kid who always says he hates his birthday," Kanan said fixing the boy with a look.
"But still, you have never wanted to train on my birthday."
Kanan sighed sinking down to the ground. Ezra mimicked his movements.
"You're getting older and the farther we get into this fight the more danger that we attract to ourselves. I want to make sure that you can defend yourself." Kanan said looking tired.
"Dad I can protect myself, see?" Ezra jumped up and started doing all kinds of fighting moves.
"EJ that's not what I mean," Kanan said watching him.
The boy didn't seem to notice causing the older man to sigh once more. Picking up a rock, he threw it into the grass and a loth cat jumped up growling. Unfortunately it decided Ezra was the one it would attacked.
"Hey get this thing off of me!"
Kanan reached out through the force and connected with the cat. Calming down it jumped off and started meowing.
"You can defend yourself huh?" Kanan said helping him stand.
"Yeah well, you're always around so don't get much of a chance," Ezra responded crossing his arms.
"I'm not going to be around forever Son. I want to make sure you are going to be alright," Kanan said bending down so they were eye level.
"Ok, but not today," Ezra smiled at him.
Kanan ruffled his hair and pulled him into a hug.
Ezra POV
I smiled relaxing into my Dad's hold. Times like these gotten fewer and father in-between. Maybe he's right but as far as I'm concerned right now, I still get my Daddy all to myself. The moment was broken when a loud scream erupted.
'Great,' I thought sarcastically.
"Why are tie fighters here?" I asked looking up.
"Nothing good, come on!" Dad said as we took off toward Joe's.
To say an eerie feeling wasn't in the cantina when we stepped in, I would be lying. The first part of my nightmare seemed to come back as Dad gripped my arm tightly. I restrained myself from burrowing into his side not liking what the force was doing. We walked over to the bar, Mom watching us carefully. I hopped up on a stool my legs still too short to reach the floor. Unfortunately one of the tie pilots grabbed my shoulder causing me to squeak in surprise. Dad growled grabbing the man's wrist jerking it off.
"Sir," the pilot commanded.
"He did nothing, we have only arrived not two minutes ago," Dad said letting him go.
The voice he used it in was quiet but it might as well have been screamed. The pilot stepped back and went back to his business.
"Thanks," I whispered when he took a glance at my shoulder.
"No problem," he whispered back.
I looked over to see the pilot and two others spin a rodiiaan around and looked at the picture on the datapad. The name read, TSEEBO! The dream came back and I felt everything lock up. The next thing I knew Dad was trying to bring me out of my stupor.
"Ezra!"
Zeb POV
I watched as Kanan and Ezra walked in and the kid stiffened. Kanan took his arm and led them over to the bar and pushed on his back to get the kid to jump onto the stool. The trooper noticed them and grabbed Ezra causing him to yelp. Kanan quick as lightening, shoved the guy off and gave him a cold glare. I couldn't hear what he said but the poor guy backed up and took off to another part of the bar.
Sabine POV
I wasn't really paying attention until I heard Kanan call the kid's name. He was staring straight ahead and had gone pale.
"Ezra! Joe bring me some water," Kanan said.
The bar tender did so and Kanan tossed it into the kid's face.
"Hey!"
"What's wrong?" He asked worriedly.
"My dream, I...I D-Kanan," Ezra started.
Kanan gave him a weird look and I saw an almost fear pass through his features. Hera got up and changed the subject as the pilots left.
"Tie pilots on patrol, Joe what's going on?"
"It's an entire planet blockade," he said.
"Just be glad they're not after us for a change," I stated readjusting my helmet
"With what I have planned," Kanan grinned, "They'll be after us soon enough."
Ezra looked down and then gave him a small look of fear. Like something was going to happen.
"Joe, one game," he suddenly said.
The bar keep nodded and Kanan leaned down beside him and whispered in Joe's direction.
"He's gotten better Joe, don't bet the farm."
The two looked at the kid who just shrugged a sly grin on his face. Just how much do we not know about these two?
NPOV Several hours later
The team broke apart just before they got to the center of town.
"Ok, everyone know the plan?" Kanan asked.
"Yes," came a collective groan.
The leader fixed them with a look having all of them scattering.
"Kanan, must you?" Hera chuckled.
"What? It's fun," the man responded while his boy gave a giggle.
"An Ezra I'm surprised at you," Hera scolded.
The boy turned fixing his mother with an innocent face.
"But Papa says that it's always in good fun."
At this Kanan laughed.
"He's got you there Hera. That's how Ezra learned his math."
Hera fixed him with a glare worse than his own.
"Kanan, gambling really?"
He didn't get the chance to respond as they had reached the main part of the square.
"Ladies and Gentle please put your hands together for the new tie fighter and Lothal's best pilot," Minister Tua announced.
Ezra huffed while Hera clapped.
"Pretty isn't?" Kanan asked sarcastically.
"Yeah I almost feel bad about blowing it up," Hera responded.
"Then we're gonna need a quick exit," Ezra said looking up.
Hera nodded and they went into action. Kanan took his son's hand and they walked to where no one was really watching.
"Ok, how do you want to do this missing child or overexcited druken parent?" Kanan asked.
"That one, we do the missing child all the time," Ezra said rolling his eyes.
"Agreed. Alright, you sneak over there and wait for me to get caught," Kanan said as Ezra took off.
Ezra POV
It didn't take long for Dad to get caught. As Sabine's fireworks went off Dad placed the detonator on the ship and accidentally backed into a trooper.
"Halt!"
"Did you see it? Huh? It's so beautiful, like a rainbow," he said with a slur.
A rainbow? Has he seriously lost his mind? A second trooper walked up to them asking if there was any problems. Dad reached for his blaster but I decided to make my appearance.
"Dad!" I called running over to them. "Dad, what are you doing?"
"This is your dad Kid?" One trooper asked.
"Yep, most of the time he can handle himself but on days like today he gets so patriotic," I said with a smile.
"Right," the two said as they bought it. "Move along."
I grabbed Dad's hand and led him toward the alley.
"Ok," I said letting him go.
Dad looked at me and then we started laughing so hard.
"Oh man, that's the best one yet," I said gasping for air. "You were right, that was fun!"
He chuckled looking back around the corner just in time for the tie fighter to blow up.
"Mission accomplished," he smiled pushing me forward so we could start running toward the rendezvous.
NPOV
The duo raced toward the meeting spot fighting the crowds.
"Didn't think it would cause this much trouble," Kanan muttered grabbing the kid's arm.
"It was so awesome!" Sabine chirped as her and Zeb met up with them.
Kanan signaled them to turn down an alley to wait it out.
"Spector Two, what's your ETA? Can you make the rendezvous?" Kanan asked pulling Ezra back from getting swept into the crowd.
"Negative Spector One, the streets are crowded," Hera's response came.
Ezra looked down at the end of the alley and realize just where they were.
"I know a way out, but Zeb won't be able to take my route."
"Then we need another option," Kanan said as troopers came by them.
"No it's fine; Kanan take the kids. Spector Two can you make it to the old side of the market?" Zeb asked.
"Affirmative."
"Right I'm on my way," Zeb said as he jumped and started climbing the walls.
"Signal when you get back to the Ghost!" Kanan called as he took off after the two kids.
Ezra reached out and began unscrewing a venahatlation grate. Quickly he got it opened and they crawled inside just as Agent Kallus ran by.
"Do you know where this goes?" Sabine asked skeptically.
"Of course I do, I think," Ezra said.
"That's not reassuring Kid," Kanan groaned hitting his head.
"Trust me, I found this route when I was six. I used it to get away from some thugs," Ezra said not realizing what he said.
"You never told me that," Kanan growled.
Ezra chuckled, " Kinda of hard to remember what happened before the Ghost Kanan."
The man snorted grumbling about crazy kids. Finally they made it to a quieter part of town. Ezra lifted the grate and helped the others out.
"What is this place?" Kanan asked as his senses on hair trigger.
"I...I don't know," Ezra walking up to the building.
"Ezra," Kanan whispered trying to get his son back to his side.
The boy suddenly saw how to get in and hacked the door. Having no choice the two rebels followed him.
"Ezra come on, we don't know who lives here," Kanan said.
"Actually there were signs on the front that said 'Place off limits,'" Sabine piped up.
"I think I did," came a quiet whisper.
"What?"
All of the sudden Ezra jerked back and stuttered.
"I think I remember."
