Chapter 9: cunning wolf

POV Maia

I admired the meters high walls around me literally with open mound. Garion led us through the corridors of the giant maze in total silence with Alcor his heavy breathing and the pace of our footsteps as the only thing breaking it.

"Impressive, isn't it?" Sabine came walking beside me. I shifted my gaze from the walls to her and saw her look up too. Her purple locks fell over her face and on seeing that I realized once again how hard we had grown. She was a young adult now and I almost. "When I was here the first time with Ezra and Zeb, I reacted the same way." She looked at me with a faint smile. "Especially because I couldn't understand why they left the walls so bare and didn't give it a good paint job." Her comment made a laugh escaped me. "Thanks Sabine, for everything." Sabine put a hand on my shoulder and gave me a smile after which we returned to walk in silence.

While we walked further, I started to lose all sense of time. It seemed like we were walking around for over an hour, but at the same time it could equally be only two minutes. And when the man in front of me stopped at last, I was only too happy with that.

We came into a larger space, the walls were still part of the labyrinth and there were several passages starting from it. Those same walls were no longer bare, but were covered with hundreds of lines. Garion walked to one of the scribbled walls after which he began to count. "Well if I am correct it has certainly been one year and six or seven months since you were here. Frankly, I thought it was longer."

I threw an uncomprehending gaze at Sabine next to me. "Time works differently down here and probably that is his way of keeping track of ours." She explained to me.

"Indeed." The man had suddenly appeared again in front of the two of us and almost had a heart attack. "Each line represented a passed full moon." How was he able to know when it was a full moon? Weren't we deep underground?

He turned away and walked over to a table with chairs around which had appeared out of nowhere. "Oh, am I glad to see that you aren't offering us those awful beanbags again." Joked Zeb and he was the first to choose a place on one of the chairs. His bo-rifle was dropped against the back of the backrest.

I sat down beside him and Sabine in front of me next to Kanan. Hera sat at the head across from Garion. "I found them, however, very nice." Reacted Sabine on Zeb's comment. When everybody sat and Sabine and Zeb had finished their little discussion, Garion cleared his throat once before he asked his first question. "Did Light and Dark sent you here for something specific?"

We looked at each other and then Hera decided to take the word. "Kanan was taken by Pitch who has possesses Ezra his body. Trait doesn't seem to have much control but the point was that they thought Kanan knew where Alcor was so we thought we could better warn you."

Alcor his head shot up at the sound of his name. "Hmm that can't mean much good." The man stroked his beard in a thinking gesture. "Did he unleashed why?"

"No, he just wanted to know the location, nothing more." Kanan spoke about. "And it almost costed me my head." He swallowed and ran his finger over the spot where probably the lightsaber had laid and almost torso and head had separated.

"Probably he also is looking for me too, but he found a reason to focus on Alcor first."

"Why would he want to find you two?" I was actually quite curious. Revenge seemed the most logical option if you asked me.

"Well, probably partly because of revenge." Yep I was correct. "We participated at the ritual that trapped them in the medallion and I guess he wants to prevent you from coming to us so we can explain it."

"Sorry to interrupt here." Started Zeb. "But Alcor is still just a uh... very large wolf?" The beast sitting beside Garion growled at him.

Garion went with both his hands through his hair in a tired gesture. "Not really." He looked back at us still with his head in his hands. "When is one of the moons full again?" The question sounded to each of us a bit strange in the ears, but because of my interest in the stars in my moments of depression, I knew the answer. "Well tonight and when we came here, it was already late afternoon."

"Well that's surprisingly convenient." Garion seemed to find it funny. "Sometimes it seems as if the Force has scheduled our meetings."

We watched him with an uncomprehending look. He sighed again and then he glanced at his partner beside him who looked at him. It was like there was taking a conversation place between the two while they held each other's gaze. A conversation that we couldn't hear, one who didn't exist for our ears.

It made me curious. Would it work the same way as you could talk with each other's with the Force in others head? Personally, I found it strange and I wasn't able to focus long enough so I stuck with my trusty mouth to form words.

And then suddenly they broke the connection so absurd that I jumped up a little bit from the guard his voice. "We can also show you, but for that it can be that you would have to be a little patient and..."

In the middle of his sentence Alcor let out a blood curling cry that hurt at your ears. Automatically I put my hands against my ears because of the bright, sharp sound. The other did the same. Just Garion didn't seemed to be bother by it.

Alcor stood up on his two back legs and his muscles began to contract. Everything seemed to be deformed. When I got my hands as last of my ears, I heard the sound of breaking bones, tearing skin, things that... moved.

Slowly Alcor's entire body reformed itself. Everything seemed to rearrange itself to heal itself.

The fur that covered his whole body seemed to pull back slowly into the skin and a light tanned color emerged. The only hair that remained were the white ones on his head, tied behind his neck in a loose tail like Kanan but just a little longer. Also a short white bear which reminded me of Rex, was visible.

I sat there staring at the man standing in front of me with open mounth. Dressed in typical local clothes of Lothal. He slowly straightened his back so his face was fully visible.

And one thing stood out.

Those eyes.

Electric blue.

He made a small bow with his head together with a little wave of his hand as a greeting. "Good evening." His voice sounded hoarse as if he hadn't spoken for a while with a living thing. "Hopefully you aren't too much startled?" There lied some amusement in his eyes when he asked it.

"You ......human wolf ... wolf ... and then ... man ... wolf ?!" Sabine stammered out some words which were exactly those who haunted around in my head.

"Yes,I'm a man I know." Said the old man, laughing. Garion took back the word."Let me introduce you to
