Chapter 24: Time is ticking Part 1
Ezra POV
Knowing what they were planning, scared me already enough and gave me the chills. Now that all the memories came back, I was terrified. With the memories I knew exactly what they were planning.
The shadow wanted to take over my body.
Once I realized that, I knew I could no longer wait on the Ghost crew or someone else.
I had to get out of here.
And fast.
The last time I was part of the whole ritual was to get him out of me. This time they were going to get him in.
I remembered the pain that went through my body, my throat hurt for days from crying, the exhaustion....
A hand grabbed me by my chin so I was forced to look into the dark yellow eyes full of hatred of the Inquisitor. A red blade hovering near my face. In the red glow his face seemed even more horrible. "Sss padawan. Don't worry. Everything will soon be over and then you will be one of us. Then I can watch you stab your master while you enjoy it."
"Inquisitor, how hard I enjoy the extra power and the fear of the boy, we must hurry. The Master and that stupid girl are on their way and aren't far away." Hearing that gave me at the same time hope and less hope. The Inquisitor "accidentally touches my cheek with his blade after letting me go. I hissed at the touch. It burned.
"Now you know what you have to do!" The ghost sounded clearly impatient. He came to me and places his hands on either side of my head. My breathing was hurried and meanwhile I still did my best to free myself. The chains were just too strong.
"Begin!"
The Inquisitor held the amulet in the air. Immediately he began to list something in a foreign language. The circle and star lighted up red in the dark room and from then on I couldn't move anymore. Just breathe. Nothing else.
It had begun.
I was so scared, I didn't even realized that I made a connection with the Force.
Kanan!
For also to be broken.
Kanan POV
Kanan!
Hearing that made me suddenly hold halt. "Kanan, why are you stopping now?! We need to find Ezra! Time is running out!"
I felt we were going to be late. Ezra's connection was immensely strengthened once and then ...
"I ... I ..." I looked into Maia her big green eyes. "I don't feel Ezra any longer in the Force."
A hundred thoughts raced through my head. We had been too late. We had failed him, disappointed him.
I had failed him.
"Come on Kanan" Maia put a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "Do you know where you've felt him the last?" Her eyes bored into mine. I nodded. "Great. Maybe we are still not too late."
Despite the situation we were in I had to smile. Now I was learned a lesson by a fourteen year old for the second time. The fearless leader Jedi. Well nice.
Hera POV
That I was worried, was an understatement. I couldn't think logically from the moment I saw Sabine there lying on the ground. At the same time I was also haunted by the thoughts around Ezra in my head. This was too much.
We hurried through the corridors on our way towards the Ghost. "Halt!" We turned around and saw four troopers pointing their weapons at us. Now wasn't the good time to mess with me. I quickly pulled my blaster and shot all four of them down smoothly. One after another. Zeb stared at me with open mouth.
"Well that was a reminder that I should never mess with you." He laughed.
"I can take care of myself Zeb. Even with a blaster" Sabine uttered a groan in his arms, making his mood change back in the gloomy one. "We have to hurry."
That I didn't have to tell Zeb twice. Jonathan was dragged by me and Zeb still carried Sabine. I was over the moon when I saw the outlines of my beloved ship, the Ghost. Thanks the Force!
"Put her down into the med bay." Zeb listened and I went looking for bandages. Last time was for Kanan if I had it right. The role I found in the cockpit, no idea why I hadn't laid it back.
When I came back in the med bay, Zeb had removed Sabine her helmet and part of her armor. "Thank you and Zeb now go away. Hup hup. Out of here." I shoot him out the door. "Go leek how Jonathan is doing."
When Zeb disappeared out the med bay and the door had been closed behind him, I turned to Sabine. And now: lets patch her up.
Zeb POV
Okay Hera just throw me literally out of the med bay. Suddenly I felt useless. Hera was busy saving Sabine her life and Kanan along with Maia were saving Ezra. Problems always seemed to find that boy again and again.
I walked down the corridor and decided to follow Hera her request: check on Jonathan. I had no idea how the kid must feel right now. To shot a friend must be terrible. Of course we all knew that it was an accident, but probably he will blame himself at the moment.
When I passed Sabine's room I heard sobbing. The door was open so I could easily look inside the artfully decorated room that belongs to Sabine. As long as she let my room for what it is, I'm happy. That one artwork from her was enough. Okay, I had to admit that it is still funny. Good times.
Jonathan was leaning against the wall, sitting on the floor with his knees under his chin. His eyes stared at nothing specific. I sat down beside him. It was a bit embarrassing because I never really talked to him. He wasn't much of a talker. Everything I knew about him, was because Maia told me or just from the things he do and his attitude. He seemed to look up towards his sister and Ezra he didn't really seems to like. Well at first I also didn't like the kid so I can't really blame him. Maia was indeed a powerful and strong person so his admiration for his older sister was right. Of course that was something that younger siblings usually had with their older ones.
"Is everything okay with her?"
Jonathan was the one to break the silence, and I was actually quite happy for that.
"Don't worry, she will be back painting the ship in no time."
"Because if she dies, I think ... I don't think ..." He looked at me with teary eyes. "I would not forgive myself if she died."
I gave him a little nudge. "Hey have a little faith in Hera." A small smile came from the boy. "Hera knows perfectly what she's doing. Everything will be fine."
What I said seemed to help anyway. It was true, about Sabine I didn't worry. Ezra on the contrary.
"You're worried about Ezra."
Wait, wait! Did I said that out loud?
"Sorry. Maia won't teach me anything about the Force, and sometimes I use it without even noticing. So sorry that I read your mind." The boy hung his head out of guilt.
"Hey it's nothing." I gave him the widest smile possible in this situation. "The kid has already done it so often that I lost count, and he knew well enough what he was doing. Of course he always gave as an excuse that he like to use me as a practice doll." I laughed when I thought about it.
It was quiet again. Then I decided to confront him with something else. "You know at first I found him a plague, but once you get to know him you get accustomed to him, even attached to. Like Maia and you, he had a tough childhood. So really different you two aren't. You have more in common than you might think."
With that to think about, I left him there alone on the floor and went to check on Hera.
