Chapter 3: Locked Up Light
(Jai pov)
"What?" Ezra and I both say at the same time.
"Your father is right," a familiar voice says. Ezra and I both glare in hatred at his helmeted mother-the same Inquisitor who helped capture us and temporarily turn Ezra to the dark side, who stands behind Ezra's father. She sashays in confidently. "You really are brothers." She clicks her helmet up, revealing a face that would have once been pretty, but now, is a symbol of terror and anger. "Though half-ones at that."
"We aren't falling for it," Ezra says. "What do you think we are, stupid?"
"Far from it," 'Ephraim' says. He leans down and stares right into Ezra's eyes. Ezra stares back at him, unblinking and defiant. "In fact, we think you're quite smart. So I invite you-search my mind. Use the Force to learn the truth. Feel it."
Ezra turns away and glances at me as if to say, Should I?
I give a slow nod back at him. Yeah. Although it's unlikely, we need to know if he's telling the truth.
He nods back and closes his eyes. He reaches out a hand gingerly.
(Ezra pov)
I reach into my father's mind and almost instantly scream. It's a deep, dark place, a place that has locked up all of our good memories as a family and has banished them to oblivion. I can't believe what happened to him. I can't believe he turned.
Now, I grasp the knowledge of what happened before I was born. I see my father, holding another child, with another woman beside him. Then I see him leave the woman, her holding the child, him walking away with a bag. Lastly, I see my father holding me, as a baby, with my mother standing beside him. All of this I see in quick and sudden flashes.
I have no doubt that the other child was Jai. I just know it-I can feel it. I try to open my eyes frantically, but can't. I groan desperately, struggling, but it's a trap. My father has pulled me into his mind. And he's going to lock me up with everything else in his mind that's good and light!
(Jai pov)
Ezra groans in concentration, but suddenly, I feel his alarm hit me like a wave. Is that the Force?! No time to wonder, Jai! I sit bolt upright from my leaning position and grab Ezra's shoulders, pulling him away from Ephraim. "Ezra!" I shout. Having been forced to break contact with the Inquisitor, Ezra collapses into the floor beside me, unconscious. We need to stop making a habit of passing out!
"Ezra!" I shout again as Ephraim and Ezra's mother grin triumphantly and begin to leave the cell.
"Ezra knows now," Ephraim says to his partner. "He'll tell Jai. When he wakes. If ever."
With that, they walk out. I glance worriedly at Ezra before sighing and leaning back against the metal bench. We could really use some help right now from the rebels. Speaking of which, where are they? And where are we going?
