Spy Part 4(Poe Dameron)
Previously on Spy: "I'm engaged, Poe," she said. My heart sank.
"To Kylo Ren," I said numbly. She nodded, tears in her eyes.
"I'm sorry," she whispered.
"Yeah," I said. "I bet you are." I turned and walked into the cockpit of the ship. I plugged in the coordinates for the Resistance base. In a minute, we were in hyperspace, flying home.
And now...
Poe's POV
I leaned back in my chair and closed my eyes. I couldn't help feeling betrayed. I know my feelings were crazy and unreasonable. So what if (Y/N) was engaged? Hadn't I dated half a million girls after her? Hadn't I tried to move on? And yet, here I was, angry at (Y/N) for living her life. I guess I wanted to believe that we could still be together, even after everything.
I glanced behind me. (Y/N) was leaning against the wall in the ship, eyes closed, knees hugged to her chest. Finally, I just turned around and watched her. She would shiver every now and then/ After a bit, she started to rub her arms to warm them up. "Cold?" I asked. (Y/N) kept her eyes closed.
"A little." I took off my jacket and tossed it at her. The way her eyes flew open as the jacket landed on her lap was almost comical. She giggled a little and smiled at me. I found myself laughing in spite of myself. "Thank you," (Y/N) said.
"No problem." I watched her pull on the jacket. She searched for a zipper, and, not finding one, settled down. "That fits you perfectly," I said without thinking. She blushed a little, and looked at the floor. I turned around, not expecting a response. After what felt like a lifetime of silence, we started to come out of hyperspace. I pointed it out, just to break the silence.
"I know," (Y/N) said softly. "I can feel it."
"I'm surprised you can feel something," I said, then scowled, regretting the words as soon as they left my mouth.
"Me too," (Y/N) whispered. I pretended I hadn't heard her and focused on getting us to the Resistance base. As soon as we landed, I helped her out of the ship and took her to General Organa.
(Y/N)'s POV
"General," Poe called. Leia turned around. Her eyes landed on me, and I smiled at her.
"How did your mission go," she asked Poe.
"Sort of failed. I did capture Kylo Ren's fiancee though, so we can use her as a hostage." Leia nodded, but she looked shocked.
"Good," she said. "Take her to a cell."
"Wait," I blurted out. Leia rose an eyebrow. "May I contact my brother? Just to let him know that I'm okay? I can scramble the signal so they don't know you're here." I felt Poe's hand tighten on my arm. Leia frowned, and looked at Poe.
"What do you think," she asked.
"I think it's an awful idea," he said. "Let her contact the people who can rescue her?" Leia considered it for a few seconds.
"You may contact your brother and...Ben. You will have ten minutes to speak to them. During that time, you will scramble the signal, then stand with your hand behind your head. Poe and I will be watching you the whole time to make sure you don't tell them where we are or any other important information. Understood?" I nodded.
"Yes, General. Thank you." I crossed over to one of the panels on the wall. I began to type as fast as possible. "Scrambling signal," I said. More typing. "Supremacy, this is Lieutenant Commander Hux. Do you read me?" There was faint static on the other end of the line. Then--
"(Y/N)!" I let out a small sob of relief.
"Yes, Amy, it's me!"
"(Y/N), don't worry. Supreme Leader Ren and I are coming to get you. Send us your coordinates. God, it's so good to hear your voice." I laughed a little.
"Amy.... I can't tell you where I am."
"Why not?"
"Circumstances."
"You're worried about Resistance spies?" I rolled my eyes, forgetting he couldn't see me.
"Yes, Amy, I, (Y/N) Hux, a spy for the First Order, am worried about Resistance spies."
"Oh that's reasonable."
"I was being sarcastic! Why would I worry about Resistance spies? I could take them down easily!"
"Okay. That does sound more like you." I couldn't help laughing.
"Is that (Y/N)?"
"Kylo!"
"(Y/N)! Are you alright?"
"Yes, I'm fine."
"Hold on. We're coming to get you."
"You can't. I--I have to stay here for a while. Don't worry. We'll find each other again. I know we will."
"You told me we were going to get her." I frowned. Kylo was talking to Amy now....
"We will. When the time is right."
"Now is the right time."
"No, it's not. We don't know where (Y/N) is, or where to start looking. Just be patient." I heard something hit something else, then Amy swore.
"What's going on," I asked. I could tell they ignored me, because it sounded like a fist fight had broken out. "Stop it," I screamed. "You're adults! You shouldn't be fighting like this!" I heard Amy cry in pain, and I had enough. "Kylo, the wedding is off."
"(Y/N)--"
"Don't. Goodbye, Supreme Leader." I ended the message abruptly.
Poe's POV
(Y/N) took off my jacket, and shoved it onto my chest as she walked by. She looked like a mess. Strands of hair flew from her braid. Her dress, a beautiful, form fitting, black creation was wrinkled, and one strap was broken, hanging off of her shoulder. It was one of the most beautiful things I had ever seen.
Too late, I remembered to follow her. (Y/N) had already left the room. I ran after her, and saw that she was stopped, in the middle of the hall, trying to find the way out. I walked over to her and gently placed a hand on her back, nudging her in the right direction. I led her out of the base and down to the beach. It was quiet down there, and I sensed (Y/N) needed to think. I stopped at the top of the beach, and watched (Y/N) walk down to the water. I watched as she fiddled with the ring on her finger. Eventually, she just took it off and tossed it into the water. She began to walk along the beach. Then she tripped over her dress. I laughed a little, making sure she didn't hear. She screamed with frustration, then took off the dress. She was wearing a black tank top and short, black shorts underneath it. I walked down to the beach and stood beside her.
"You know General Armitage Hux is my brother, right?" she asked. I nodded. "I call him Amy. It's a childhood nickname." (Y/N) took, a deep shuddering breath. "Our father used to...hit...Amy. When we were kids. Maratelle...my...his wife. She's not our mother. She would drag me off when it looked like Father was about to hurt Amy. She knew I'd fight back." (Y/N) laughed. It was a hollow, broken sound. "When we grew up, I just ran after Amy and fought his enemies." (Y/N) just stopped talking and stared at the ocean.
"Did he ever hit you," I asked.
"My father?"
"No...Kylo Ren. But yes."
"Kylo never hurt me. He cared way too much. My father, though.... Once." The rage was still and quiet inside my chest.
"What happened?"
"I hit him back. It became a fistfight, and I won. Father never tried to hit me again. He just...left me alone." (Y/N) smiled at the ocean. I placed a hand on her shoulder, and she turned towards me. I kissed her lightly on the mouth. She pulled away.
"No," (Y/N) whispered.
"Why not."
"That was from pity. I don't want pity."
"It wasn't. I--I love you." She gave me a wry smile.
"No, you don't. I'm the First Order spy, remember? The girl who betrayed you? The one who took your heart, smashed it, then returned with a ring on her finger and a fiancee to crush your heart again. You don't love me." I smiled at her.
"That's where you're wrong. Please, give it a chance. I won't let you down. I promise." (Y/N) smiled at me. She leaned against me a little bit, and I put my arm around her. Together, we watched the sun rise over the ocean, finally at peace with each other and our shared past.
