Chap. 81 - Leap of Faith
Boss: - We must retreat! - Despite his screams, the droid did not seem to see reason.
Icarus stood firm against the imposing mountain of muscles that was his opponent. Flesh fibers and hydraulic mechanisms fought for supremacy in the deadly lightsaber duel.
Howllhell was an immovable mountain, and its powerful blows could very well split the ship's hallway in half. Icarus was a fortress of iron and binary codes, and his sword would not hesitate to kill his opponent as soon as he found an opening.
The droid did not have the percepts of the Jedi. Those ideals that were once his strength, but became his greatest weakness in times of crisis. A dying enemy can always get up and attack from behind. An imprisoned enemy can always escape, restarting the process of endless fighting. No. For Icarus there were no doubts. The best of enemies... is he who lies dead.
In a fit of rage, Howlhell let out a powerful roar, while with his outstretched hand he tried to push the droid through the Force, but Icarus was able to foresee such a movement, crouching down to minimize the pushing force, and gripping the metal fingers on the ground. metal, deforming it while giving it a firm grip. Icarus wasn't going anywhere.
As soon as the Force push was dissipated, the droid rose once again and charged at the shitavaven, ready to cut it in half if possible, but the inquisitor was able to foresee its movement, and his crimson sword of light intervened in the way. half.
What the droid did not know was the state of his own men. The same push of force that was not able to push him away had wreaked havoc behind him. The clones and some unaware commando droids flew into the air and slammed their bodies against the walls of the place.
The droids immediately stood up, returning to combat against the stormtroopers who did their best to surround them, but their lethal aim allowed them to keep the Imperials at bay. However, some clones were not so lucky.
Boss caught his breath almost immediately, lifting his heavy, tired body to help his brothers, but although Fixes did his best to recover from his confusion, Sev showed no signs of waking up.
The commando sniper clone was crushed by a commando droid against the wall when they were all pushed by the Force, hitting his head hard and causing him to lose consciousness. Kurt was lucky to find himself behind one of the droids that was not thrown into the air, and Holdo was away from the main conflict, covering the rear with two commando droids of the imperial forces that managed to surround them.
Boss: - Shit! Icarus! We have to get out of here! - But once again, their cries were ignored.
It wasn't like it was possible to simply turn around and run back to the ship to escape. The droid knew that the inquisitor would not allow it so easily, and turning around was almost suicidal. It was then that he realized something truly crazy. One that in his robotic mind, only had a twenty-six percent chance of victory.
As the lightsabers bounced from the force of the impact, Howlhell watched with his ridiculous reaction time as the droid tried to punch him in the face. Was it a joke? That definitely wasn't the best of ideas.
The inquisitor did not hesitate for a second, and raising his saber fiercely, he slashed the droid's arm in just the blink of an eye.
Howlhell let out a smile as he felt victorious. Hearing the sparks flying from the severed limb was music to his ears. Dismembering his opponents was beautiful in its macabre mentality, and this would be the first of four at his mercy. Or so he thought.
An organic would scream in pain at the brutality of a lightsaber. Feeling the skin and bone charring into a painful burn scar was a brutally painful sensation. Bloodless, but painful. Very few organics had the iron will to resist such a cut and continue fighting, but if the shitavaven did not have something in mind, it was that Icarus... He was not an organic.
Unable to experience pain, the droid intentionally sacrificed its arm to gain an opening. His lightsaber was swung at overwhelming speed at his enemy, but the droid knew full well that he would be able to block it, and so he did. What Icarus also knew was that by turning so abruptly, the inquisitor's ribs were left vulnerably exposed.
The droid kicked the inquisitor's side with such force that not only did it break two of his ribs and knock all the air out of his lungs, but it also threw him as far as he could, crashing onto some poor stormtroopers who couldn't do anything. to stop the fall of the inquisitor with his body.
As soon as an opening was opened, Icarus returned with his troops to organize a desperate retreat, leaving behind him a decimated company of imperials, and an inquisitor burning with rage.
Howlhell: - Kill them all! Kill those bastards! -
Their angry screams were accompanied by a roar that shook the station almost in its entirety. Now, the worn group of Icarus and Boss were hurrying towards their ship, as the clones and Holdo had infiltrated personnel transports that obviously would not leave the station once the red emergency lights flooded the hallways.
In front of the group was an impenetrable shield of steel and plastoid in the shape of commando droids, closely followed by both Alpha and Delta, which advanced without stopping their pace in the slightest. On their swords Holdo, Boss, Fixes, and Icarus ran without breaking stride, while two droids carried Wag Too and Sev on their tireless hands.
Icarus contacted Bly to prepare for takeoff, but it would not be so simple. The hangars were infested with Imperials, and all takeoffs were unauthorized, so the stromtroopers did not hesitate to approach as soon as they felt the engines of the sentry shuttle.
More annoyed than worried, the stormtroopers approached the ship in perfect formation. It was a squad, made up of eight regular soldiers and the sergeant who led them to the front. They had no idea what was happening, because for most of the station staff, it was another one of those annoying drills that the higher-ups liked to do so much.
Many of them had never fired their weapon against a real enemy, spending most of their time as simple sentinels of a space station that no idiot would dare attack. Well, what a surprise they got when they felt a metallic object bounce and fall at their feet.
None of the Imperials in the squad could even scream before the object under their feet, which turned out to be a powerful detonator, burst into a violent explosion, killing them all instantly.
The rest of the imperials present could not help but be frightened by this, and immediately, their usual dazedness in the drills turned into fear of a possible real attack. Many saw the sentinel shuttle barely lift off the ground, only to slowly spin inside the hangar before opening fire on the soldiers doing their best to defend themselves.
The commotion was so great that when Icarus' group entered the hangar, no one noticed that they were those who caused so much havoc. After all, they were just another group of stromtroopers followed by a security droid with a missing arm and a mechanic behind its back. Although some looked strangely at the small being that one of them was carrying in his arms. But between them and the shuttle that was shooting like crazy everywhere, many preferred to prioritize their attention on the greatest danger.
The privates fired their personal blasters at the ship's fuselage, but their power was not enough to overcome its shields, much less damage the hull. For security measures, the explosive weapons such as grenades and rocket launchers were in a somewhat further sector, so they would take at least ten minutes to reach. What did have the officers somewhat worried was the fact that the hangar defense turrets did not open fire on the hostile ship.
Icarus was not a supercomputer for nothing. The first thing he did when connecting to the station was to hack the station's defense systems, which would pose a potential danger if the situation got out of hand.
A powerful digital virus was loaded and stored alongside the systems. Its effect would be immediate, preventing the Imperials from being able to control the defensive systems. Although its objective was more efficiency and less durability, since the droid assumed that it would take some imperial genius about seven and a half minutes to solve the problem. Enough time to reach the transport and flee the place. The fleet outside the station would be a separate problem.
A brief moment of calm allowed the group to board the shuttle. Bly stopped controlling the weapons and began entering the coordinates for the imminent jump, as soon as they were outside the station. But they would need a little more time, since numerous imperials were approaching behind them.
Icarus: - Units 23, 18 and 7. Activate sacrifice protocols. -
As soon as they heard the command, three of the Punitive Guard commando droids disguised as stromtroopers turned around, charging head on and with no chance of victory against the huge number of Imperials trying to surround the shuttle.
As soon as they saw one of their own firing at them, the imperials did not hesitate to open fire on the enemy who was disguised against them, but taking down a commando clone, reinforced with imperial armor, was not an easy task. Although not impossible.
Countless blaster shots pierced the droids' plates and fried their circuits, falling before their defeated and inert enemies. The stormtroopers continued to point their weapons at what they believed were corpses, because they would never imagine that under those white armor was one of the most lethal units of the former separatist army.
Even so, it was impossible not to feel curious to see what or who it was, especially because of the strange beeping sound emanating from Caido that became more and more constant. A stormtrooper prepared to remove the fallen man's helmet, but his curiosity was unable to be satisfied when a strong explosion killed him instantly.
The Punitive Guard droids had a fairly powerful bomb for their size inside their chest. An idea that Icarus copied from the IG droids of Holowan Laboratories.
A last desperate sacrifice to protect their leader. Something that was incapable of defining itself as an order that they carried out blindly, or an act of last will. Whatever the answer, his sacrifice wreaked havoc within the hangar long enough for him to escape.
Once outside, the situation would be completely different. Hacking the Hagar's defenses was one thing, but the outer defenses of the entire extation were completely different.
Holdor's space station blasters opened fire on their enemies. The shields were overloaded ridiculously quickly by the firepower. Kurt was yelling at Bly like crazy to finish making the jump to hyperspace once and for all, while Delta piloted the ship with an agility that any pilot could imagine. The imperial battleships that were creating a cordon around the station began to rotate to cut them off. TIE fighters came out from everywhere to shoot them down as they retreated. The window between the Imperials was getting smaller and smaller, but escape would not be possible if Bly delayed any longer, but making such a desperate calculation without crashing into anything would be difficult even for Gwori's own general, but there was no time left.
Icarus took a step forward, and without even giving a warning, grabbed the hyperjump lever and activated it, taking everyone by surprise. But as the window closed on them more and more, the sentry shuttle barely managed to escape the deadly trap. Although its course and destination... were completely unknown.
