Chap. 41 - Out of Logic
Mirana: - Commander. Do you receive me? - He spoke through the cockpit communicator.
Icarus: - This is Icarus. I receive it. -
Mirana: - The civilians are safe. I'm coming home." -
Icarus: - Understood. Something new? -
Mirana: - Negative. After passing the imperial border control we did not have any problems. When they asked me why I was in that area, I answered that it was because I received the call for help. -
Icarus: - Very good. And... What is the official account of this event? -
Mirana: - "An unknown pirate ship assaulted a civilian transporter. Given the chaos no one could see what was happening clearly. Had it not been for a "civilian pilot" thousands of lives would have been lost. -
Icarus: - Perfect. So you were like the heroine of this whole story. -
Mirana: - Something like that. Me and my ship Trident. The Kestrel Nova kept its distance from everything. No one could see more than that. -
Icarus: - Perfect. It seems we still have our operations in the shadows. Return to Gwori and await our arrival. -
Mirana: - Understood. I also have good information. I think I found something of value. -
Icarus: - Very good. He tells me the details at the base. Over and out. -
The Kandosii kept traveling through hyperspace for long hours, but no one had much time to rest. The droids kept the ship operational, while engineers kept checking the battleship's barely repaired systems. It was quite an old model, and the damage received during the battle was only severe, but Icarus did not want to take any chances.
Wag Too: - This ship is incredible. Despite being so old. - He said as he entered the cockpit.
Icarus: - It was the jewel in the crown of the Mandalorian crusades. A pride of the warriors of the past. Tell me. What is our state? -
Wag Too: - The systems resist. We will reach Gwori without any problems. We have several serious problems, but we can solve them once we are in a safe space. -
Icarus: - Tell me the details. -
Wag Too: - Most of the port hull is made of junk. As well as most of the cannons. They can be repaired, but it will take a long time. -
Ícaro: - Can you tell me an approximate? -
Wag Too: - I'm not an expert but... Maybe two years... Maybe more. -
Icarus: - Mmm. Anything else? -
Wag Too: - More serious than that... I don't think so. We've got bad circuits, broken panels, a stuck cargo hold door... But nothing that can't be fixed. -
Icarus: - Very good. - He turned on the communicator and a B1 unit was displayed. - Have you finished checking the cargo hold yet? -
B1: - Affirmative, Commander. - He answered in a holo-projector. - Most of it is stolen items, spices, and a lot of alcohol. Shall we throw it into space? -
Wag Too: - What!? -
Icarus: - No. Organize it and secure it. Let Miraj take care of that when we get to the Oasis. And the rest? -
B1: - Several boxes of ammunition and a few detonators. Used blasters. Most in poor condition. -
Icarus: - Very good. We will keep it all. Secure the load. -
B1: - Roger. Roger. - Ended the call.
Wag Too: - Ha. That's crazy. I wanted to throw everything away. -
Icarus: - I would too. -
Wag Too: - What!? -
Icarus: - I know it has great market value but, as a droid, I don't understand why organics drink alcohol. It does not contribute anything good to health, or at least, not in the quantities with which they consume it. What's the point of deteriorating your own life? -
Wag Too: - It is not deteriorating life. It's about having fun and having a good time. -
Icarus: - Children are capable of having more fun than adults. And no one drinks alcohol. -
The lumen remained with its mouth open and its index finger raised, thinking that it was going to give him a coherent answer, but when it thought better of it, it knew that it didn't matter what reason it gave it, it wasn't going to convince it.
The battleship finally reached Gwori's atmosphere after a long journey. The Munificent could barely be seen from a distance behind the planet's shadow, but Icarus knew it was there from Doom's reports.
Once in the atmosphere, the Kestrel Nova, which had already arrived long before, went up to the Kandosii to pick up Icarus, Wag Too and the rest of the engineers and take them back to the Oasis. Most of them had never been on such a dangerous mission, and were greeted as war heroes by the Vault residents, though this meant no more than a minor skirmish, but for an impossible cause, any victory is vital. And so, after a prudential time in which they had to tell what had happened and that little Tova bombarded the droid and the lurmen with questions, the leading members of that rebellion cell were grouped in the conference room of the Oasis town hall.
Miraj: - The goods will be distributed in the different points of the Oasis. And thus we will avoid conflicts between the different zones. -
Boil: - Sounds good to me. This will raise the spirits of the civilians a bit. -
Icarus: - The most important thing now is to prioritize the expansion of the dome to start the repairs on the Kandosii battleship. -
Wag Too: - I think I have a better idea. We can use the two ships to transport the dome to the old shipyard area. This way we would reduce time in preparations. -
Boil: - I like the idea. I think it will be the best. -
Icarus: - Very good. And now the final topic. Mirana. Tell us everything you could find out. -
Mirana: - We are not alone. - He said suddenly, taking several by surprise. - There are reports of many "havocs" around the entire galaxy. Most think that they are bandits, but some believe that they may be a sector that opposes the Empire. -
Miraj: - That's excellent. We will need all possible forces to confront the Empire. -
Ícaro: - For now we can't count on it. -
Wag Too: - What do you mean? - He asked while everyone looked doubtfully at the droid.
Icarus: - These isolated attempts are not a real threat to imperial rule and, in the eyes of many, could be terrorist acts. We have to take care of our image or we will lose the support of the worlds. There is a very fine line between rebellion and terrorism. -
Boil: - Yes, but. We fight for a just cause. Many will support our cause. -
Icarus: - Only if we move correctly. One mistake could be fatal. Mirana. There is something else to report. -
Mirana: - Yes. Regardless of skirmishes and armed conflicts, there are worlds that openly oppose Imperial policy, albeit peacefully, such as Dac. -
Icarus: - Dac? Do the Mon Cala oppose the Empire? -
Miraj: - Is it so strange? -
Icarus: - The Mon Cala were great assets to the Republic. I'm surprised they don't support the Empire in the same way. I guess we should find out more about it and create a secret network of contacts. We must find out what plans they have in mind. The Mon Cala could be of great help in the future. -
Boil: - That's very good. -
Mirana: - There's still more. - Everyone looked curiously. - Apparently, there are many clones defecting from the ranks of the Empire. -
Boil: - That's not surprising. Many of us still can't accept what we were forced to do. -
Mirana: - Apparently there is a group that has drawn a lot of attention from the imperial high command. It is speculated that it is a unit of old experienced clones. -
Boil: - Those must be Rex and the boys from 99. They seem to be doing their job well. -
Icarus: - At the moment we must not intervene with them, or we will put our operation at risk. Still, we will not hesitate to help them if they ever ask for it. -
Boil: - Thank you, Commander. - He said while bowing slightly to the droid.
Mirana: - And now the most important thing. Apparently, at this very moment a great battle is being fought on the planet of Felucia. -
Boil: - Impossible. Felucia's population has always been noted for its opposition to violence. What's going on? -
Mirana: - I couldn't figure out why, but it seems the population was enslaved by the Empire, until now. -
Wag Too: - Maybe we should go give him a hand. -
Icarus: - Negative. - He said forcefully, making everyone turn to look at him.
Mirana: - What!? How not? - She asked somewhat annoyed.
Icarus: - We don't have enough forces to support a rebellion. And if we expose ourselves, everything will be over. The Empire will follow us and finish us all off. -
Mirana: - But... There are innocent people dying there. He was starting to get a little upset.
Boil: - Calm down, Mirana. We must think about our survival. -
Mirana: - And what good is everything we're doing if we can't help anyone? -
Icarus: - For now. When we have enough forces we can support all sectors for a galaxy-wide uprising against the Empire. -
Mirana: - By then... it will be too late. -
Miraja: Mirana. I understand how you feel, but we have to... -
Mirana. No. You don't get it! - He interrupted her and stood up, violently dragging the chair behind him.
Everyone present was a bit shocked to see her reaction, but realizing her condition, Mirana turned around and started to leave the room.
Boil: - Mirana... Wait. -
Mirana: - Leave me alone. - And he left the place.
The rest of the leaders fell silent, trying to process what had happened. Mirana had never reacted like this, and although she always maintained a serious and calm demeanor, it was rare to see her upset for any reason.
Wag Too: - Can someone explain what happened? -
Mira: I don't know. It's the first time I've seen him react like that. boil? -
Boil: - I don't know. She never wants to talk about her past. It's like there's a... barrier... a wall between her and the rest of us. -
Icarus: - The past can mark the organic ones. More than you yourselves are capable of imagining. -
An uncomfortable silence reigned in the room for a few seconds before some began to comment in a low voice about what had happened. Icarus remained serene, calculating about the strange reaction of the human and the possible problems that this could cause. But before he could draw any conclusions, he received a call on the holo-comm.
Icarus: - Unit TR-1. What happen? -
TR-1: - Commander, we have a situation. An unauthorized ship has just left the shelter. It was Lieutenant Mirana's Trident. - Saying that, everyone was shocked, knowing what it implied.
Boil: - But what... Is she crazy? -
Wag Too: - She can't go alone. They will kill her. -
Miraj: - We have to stop her. -
Boil: - I'm going. - He said as he stood up, but was interrupted by the droid's words.
Icarus: - Negative. Captain Boil. -
Bill: - What!? Because!? - Still the droid did not answer.
Miraj: - We can't let her go alone. -
Wag Too: - Icarus? -
Icarus: - She won't go alone. - He said after a pause, before turning on his communicator. - Alpha, Delta, Typhoon, Lance Units. Meet in the hangar and prepare the Kestrel Nova. May the Punitive Guard be with us. -
Droids over the comlink: - Roger. Roger. - Before such action, a smile appeared on the faces of those present.
Icarus: - Wag Too, prepare the ship. We'll leave in fifteen minutes. Captain, get your team, we'll need your expertise to deal with this dilemma. Mayor Miraj, we leave the Oasis in your hands. -
Miraj, Wag Too and Boil: - Yes, sir! - They exclaimed enthusiastically, and somewhat satisfied by the sudden "humanization" of the droid.
Icarus: - Crew. On going! -
