The Lost City
It was a few days after I encountered Revan, but he never seemed to leave my mind. I decided to stay in Batuu and complete several other missions just in case he came back, but he never did. Over the course of a few days, however, I started seeing a planet forming in my dreams but I definitely wasn't expecting what I'd see tonight.
Images. They started out slow and I could see them clearly. Some I knew, some unfamiliar. Deep Space. The same beautiful green planet. A portal. A boy. But as they kept appearing, they flicked by, faster and faster until they were only a blur. I had no idea what was happening, but I couldn't look away. The images still flicked by faster and my heart was starting to pound faster and faster as an old woman's face appeared calling to me, saying that I will save her people. Suddenly, there was a blinding light and I woke up with the words, "Come home."
I gasped for air as I sat up. I looked around dazed and tried to process what had just happened. The vision. A strange old woman calling to me. The mysterious planet that I somehow recognized. It all felt so real. My brain turned to mush as I tried processing everything. This was not how I thought my day was going to go, I thought and climbed into the pilot seat. I reached over to put in the coordinates, stopped and realized I didn't know them. As if someone read my mind, all the numbers formed their clear picture in my mind. I frowned. Where I was going was into Deep Space; no one ever travels that far unless they plan on getting sucked into it, never to return. However, I shrugged my shoulders and pushed the lever. The stars stretched out before me and I went into hyperspace.
...
I touched down on the dew filled grass and stepped out, wrapping a scarf I found around my head like a hood, and started to notice my surroundings. The air smelled clean and crisp and it looked as if the entire planet had a light rain. The leaves were the richest green hue I had ever seen. The temperature was just right; not too hot, not too cold. I breathed in a smell of tranquility and peace. A single word formed in my mind: Kapusia.
I had seen this place in my dreams only recently, but never had a good recollection of it. As I continued on, I did seem to remember a wooden pillar in the heart of the foliage. Walking for a while, I eventually found it and looked around. The pillar just stood there, as if it hasn't been touched in eons. Then again, I thought, it probably hasn't. The wooden pillar went no further up to my waist and had ancient carvings on the sides. An impression in the shape of a hand was on top and it seemed to beckon me toward it. Looking around to make sure no one was there, I walked forward my hand slowly going up to place it in the impression. When I was about to place my hand on the pillar, I heard a noise. I pulled my hand away instantly and hid behind the bushes. As the sound came closer, I realized it was the sound of an Imperial walker. It was flanked by two stormtroopers and a transport. I cursed silently. This planet is not on any star charts I know of so how do they know about it? Once they were far enough away, I finally came from hiding and placed my hand on the pillar. It glowed and slid into the ground. I took a step back in surprise; I didn't think it would actually work. My eyes widened as a large glowing circle appeared and revealed an entrance leading to a place I didn't know. I hesitated and looked behind me at the mountain of green. I was unsure of what would happen if I crossed the threshold, but decided not to think about it. Looking back at the portal and taking a deep breath, I stepped through its magic absorbing me and the world behind me melted away.
...
When I arrived on the other side, a gigantic floating village rose in front of me. Tall mountain-like rock formations curved inward as if to greet the people passing by. Beyond that, the village seemed to float. The beautifully carved buildings were built off the cliffs and below them, the sapphire colored falls cascaded down to the surface. The view was spectacular, but only the people who lived here could enjoy it. I started walking down the long path when suddenly I heard a rustle in the bushes nearby. I stopped just in time to see a figure fall backward from them, his bow aimed to fire at where he just fell from. I stared at him in surprise. He seemed to sense my presence and stared at me in fear, then surprise.
"Who are you?" he asked still shaken as he stood up and brushed himself off. "And, uh, sorry if I scared you."
"First of all, who are you?" I replied. "And you didn't scare me, I'm used to it."
He smiled crookedly. "Ha sure. I'm Turk, at your service." He made a bowing gesture toward me and held out his hand. I liked his playful banter and took it. "And you are again?"
"Ah, right," I remembered. "Estrella. My name is Estrella."
"You don't look like you're from here. How did you get in?"
"Through the portal, why?"
He seemed startled at my response. "Well, it's just that... no one has ever come through it, or left."
I was confused but decided not to say anything.
"C'mon," Turk said and pulled me forward with him. "I'm taking you to the queen. She'll definitely want to see you."
We walked along the dirt path, the city becoming clearer and clearer. Turk pointed out everything there was to see within eyesight, and it seemed to me that he knew this place like the back of his hand. As we were walking through the village, people started noticing me as I passed, whispering to one another. At this point, I felt like the whole place was filled with whispers of prophecy, Chosen One, and a final oath.
One born of Jedi and Kapusian... the words seemed to ripple across the Hidden City. The Lost City, a voice seemed to say. The magnificent palace loomed above me, tall and resolute. Its gleaming white marble walls gave way to towering ceilings that glowed with light. The lights seemed to come from the gorgeous skylights with tiny crystals catching the sun creating rainbows across the walls. I marveled at how small I felt in comparison to the structure above me and wondered if the people here were just as intimidating as the architecture. Turk led me through the immense hallways, till we arrived in the even more spacious throne room. A large tree seemed to spring up from the center, its branches fanning out with millions of beautiful flowers adorning it. Its roots wound themselves around each other forming into a sort of throne. Sitting on the throne was a tall, white clothed woman with long brown hair adorned with similar flowers. However, her voice was less than pleasant.
"Shaa, we have someone you should meet," Turk called and the beautiful woman turned her head.
Turk stepped aside and Shaa saw me in full view. Her piercing blue eyes reminded me of my mother... no, they couldn't could they? As soon as she examined me closely, her eyes paled considerably.
"Turk," her voice was harsh and icy. "Who is this?"
Even Turk seemed afraid now. "This is-"
"Estrella," I spoke up for him. "My name is Estrella."
Nearby, I started to notice a stout old woman watching me intently from the shadows. When I said my name, she seemed to stand up a little straighter and stared back and forth between the woman and I. Shaa also seemed slightly taken aback but quickly regained her perfect composure.
"Very well," Shaa said. "How did you get here? Where are you from?"
"I got through... the portal," I began. "Why is that hard for people to grasp?"
Shaa looked from the woman to me gravely. "Well that's not an issue at the moment. Welcome to Kapusia, I believe we've been awaiting your arrival."
One born of Jedi and Kapusian,
Shall save the world from fire and ruin.
An oath to keep with a final breath,
And hero and foe shall face their death...
