3| Breakfast
After her Force bond with Ben ended, Rey decided it was late enough for her to leave her room. She walked quietly through the halls of the Millennium Falcon in search of something to do. Something to fix.
Life seems so much simpler when you're fixing things, she thought.
Just then she came across an electrical panel that a family of porgs had destroyed and built their nest in.
Rey smiled and shook her head. She went to find a box to put their nest in, the pieces of paper and cloth could cause a fire so close to the power source.
When she returned, she knelt down and carefully placed the porgs' nest in the box. There were three baby porgs in the nest, along with their mother and father.
"This will be your new home," she said carefully placing the box in a corner. The mother porg hopped into the box, followed by the father to join their babies.
Rey smiled at the family of porgs. They had everything she had ever wanted, a home, a family, and belonging. They had the things she feared she would never have. The Millennium Falcon was far closer to a home than anything she had ever known, and the Resistance was the closest thing to a family she had ever had. But something was still missing, at times she felt that she didn't belong. She was different, and more powerful than even she knew, because of it her friends feared her and didn't understand her. But how could she ever fit in when she was the last of her kind, the Last Jedi? How would she ever belong when there was no one else like her? And she feared that no one would ever love her enough to stay, to never leave her, and to return if they were forced to leave.
She returned to the electrical panel and began repairing it, hoping that it might take her mind off the deep loneliness she felt. Fixing things had always helped when she lived on Jakku, but now things were different. Now that she had experienced the company of others, she only longed for it more.
Soon Finn came walking down the hall, he looked very tired. He stopped when he saw Rey, he looked at her curiously. "Rey, what are you doing up and about so early?" he asked.
"I couldn't sleep," she answered. She didn't want him to ask her about the nightmare again so she tried to think of a way to change the subject as quickly as possible. "What about you?"
"I'm going to check on Rose," he said.
Rose was still unconscious, and Finn would check on her every chance he got, he was always at her side.
Rey smiled. "You're very good to her."
"She was very good to me, she risked her life to save me, I can do no less," Finn answered.
Rey nodded. "She must care about you very much to risk her life for you."
Finn nodded.
"Let me know when she wakes up, so I can thank her for saving my best friend," Rey said, giving Finn a quick hug.
"I will," he promised, then he left to check on Rose.
Soon, the rest of the Resistance began to get up. They all gathered in the main room to eat breakfast and discuss plans for the day.
Rey quickly finished repairing the electric panel and joined them. When she came into the main room, everyone had already begun eating and discussing.
As she came in Poe was in the middle of talking about their fuel supplies and that if they weren't careful they would run out. He looked up and saw Rey coming to join them, she looked tired. It was those nightmares, she probably hadn't gotten much sleep. At least not any peaceful or restful sleep. Poe decided that she didn't need any more stress today, so he quickly changed the subject.
"Good morning, Rey!" he said, as Rey sat down next to Leia and joined them.
"Good morning," she answered.
BB-8 beeped a greeting to her.
"Good morning, BB-8," she replied.
Sitting next to Poe was lieutenant Kaydel Ko Connix. She wore a yellow uniform and had her blonde hair pulled up into two buns. She stood and smiled at Rey as she handed her a tray of food. Poe was good friends with Kaydel and had confided in her about Rey's nightmares, thinking that it might help if Rey had another girl to talk to. Women were so complicated sometimes he thought.
Poe tried to think of something to say, hoping that Rey hadn't noticed how he had suddenly broken off the important discussion when she entered the room, he was about to ask her if she had slept well, thinking that it would be a normal thing to say to someone in the morning and that it wouldn't raise her suspicions. But as he opened his mouth to speak, he realized that it might only remind her of her nightmare. "Where's Finn?" he asked, trying to find something else to say.
"With Rose," she answered, nodding across the room to where Finn sat beside the unconscious girl.
Poe smiled. "I should have known, he barely leaves her side."
Rey smiled and nodded.
Poe handed her a second tray of food. "Do you mind taking his breakfast to him?" he asked. "I don't want him to forget to eat ...again."
"I don't mind," said Rey. She had heard Poe talking about their fuel supplies, she noticed that he had changed the subject when she came in. She knew it was because he didn't want to stress her out after the nightmare. She was going to tell him to continue, that she was fine, but she knew that if she did, she would have to explain to the others what had happened and she didn't want to do that. She decided to leave so that they could continue their discussion.
"I think I'll eat with him to give him some company," she added. Sometimes she didn't feel comfortable with all of the Resistance members, she wasn't used to being around so many people. They all stared at her and looked at her as if it was her responsibility to save the Resistance alone. But how could she? She wasn't Luke Skywalker.
Poe nodded. "I think he could use some."
Rey left and went to where Finn and Rose were.
Leia watched her leave. "I'm worried about her," she said.
"I'm sure she fine," said Poe remembering what Rey had said about not wanting to worry the General, since she already had a lot troubling her.
"I'm not," she said. "She looks so tired this morning."
"Maybe she got up early," he answered, trying to brush it off.
"Poe, I can tell you're keeping something from me. Lying won't do any good, I heard Rey screaming last night."
"Fine," he gave in. "Finn and I also heard her screaming last night, so we went to check on her. She had a nightmare, that's all."
But Leia seemed concerned. She knew that because Rey was Force-sensitive, the Force could be using the nightmare to warn her about something that may come in the future. "What was it about? Did she tell you?" she asked, her voice was filled with concern.
Poe had promised Rey that he wouldn't tell the General about her nightmare. He knew that it wouldn't be a good idea to tell Leia that Rey had a nightmare about her son killing her. He couldn't burden Leia with that, and he couldn't break his promise to Rey.
"I can't tell you," he said.
Leia gave him a puzzled look, her curiosity and concern only growing.
"I promised her I wouldn't tell anyone," he replied. "So did Finn."
"I understand," said Leia. "I'll ask her myself."
"I don't know if that's such a good idea," said Poe, imagining how hard it might be for Rey to explain to her that she had a nightmare about her son.
"Why not?"
"I don't know," he answered. "...Rey said that she didn't want to worry you." He came up with a quick excuse, but it was also the truth.
"I'm already worried, Poe."
He nodded.
