Part: 28 || Luke's Message
FINN
"Hey,
Finn...could you...hand me that...Stabilizer fluid." Poe asked, as he diligently wrenched his way through the underbelly of a small shipping freighter that was docked in the bay of Ara's starship. Finn caught himself spacing out again, jolting out of his seat and bending down to fiddle through the nearby tool box.
"Do you think Ara is hiding something?" Finn asked, meddling through different fixtures before he found the one Poe asked for, tossing it to him.
"Well...we only just met her." He replies, mumbling something under his breath then pausing briefly as he heaves a heavy conductor back into its socket.
"I know, I know but..." Finn looked off, debating the possibility in his head until signing out through his teeth, "She seems...a little..."
"Skittish?"
"Yeah! And, and, and she speaks to those...things as if she's hiding something from us."
"Hiding what?" Poe asked, curiously peering up at Finn from under the ship.
"I don't know! Something just isn't right."
"You can trust Ara." A lighter voice smoothly interjected between them.
Finn sprang up out of his relaxed position as Poe's head launched forwards, banging against a metal rod that was hanging from under the ship sending a resounding smack sound through the bay.
Kendra leaned casually against a pillar of stacked storage crates, eyes lazily flickering between Finn and Poe.
Poe looks at her once more and rolls back under the freighter, returning to his task. "Be careful, those are explosives." He says nonchalantly, directing to the crates that Kendra was putting her weight on.
Her gaze drags to the crates before her shoulders perform a sort of a careless shrug. "So this is where you've been." She said.
Faint sounds click and twist from under the freighter. Finn bounced his head slightly, not knowing what else to say.
"Lando still on the Bridge?" Poe's voice steals the awkward silence.
"Yes. He finds being at the head of a ship again is calming."
"I know the feeling." He finished. The silence returned and Finn could almost hear Poe saying, 'are you gonna say something?'
"Uhhhhm." The guttural sound of Finns thought process bubbled from his throat as he tried to decide on a conversation starter. He finally looked up at Kendra, she was wearing one of Ara's people's blue work suits, his gaze traveled up to her gold eyes, disappearing and reappearing within blinks of her long, dark lashes. Her face wasn't as smooth looking as porcelain, it had small imperfections which made her all the more pretty in Finns, honest uneducated opinion.
"What?" She demanded, her plump lips formed into a line.
A small beep sounded from where Poe was wiping grease and hyper-fluids from in between his fingers.
"It's me," He clarified Finn and Kendra's confusion as their heads shot towards him.
Poe carefully activated his chirping communicator, "Poe." He proudly addressed himself.
"A direct message has been sent from an unknown source." It was Ara, her stoic voice spoke as if she were an old protocol droid, "playing now."
The message began with small static clicks before an unfamiliar voice started to speak.
"Ex-First Order stormtrooper; Finn. Most resounded fighter pilot in the Resistance fleet; Poe Dameron." A man began, his voice sounded dry with age, some white noise could be heard behind it, Finn tuned his ear to try to pick it up. It sounded like...wind.
He's outdoors. Finn's mind naturally began to diagnose the mysterious caller's location. Coastal, possibly.
"You two are my most prized assets at the moment. Rey is busy elsewhere, but don't worry, she is well."
"Rey?" Finn whispered under his breath, taking a quick step forwards while keeping his eyes on the communicator.
The recording continued, "now, I need you two to continue on your route to Ahch-To, my current location." His voice began to strain against the wind.
Ahch-To...
Poe exchanged glances with the group, all the same questions on they're faces. 'What is he talking about and who is this guy?'
"You're probably wondering who I am." The recording perked all of their ears.
"Spooky..." Kendra whispered to herself.
"My name is Luke SkyWalker. Now the First Order demands a war, and they think they will win. I say we give them what they ask for once but with our consent for a change."
"Luke." Whispered Poe, more to himself than anyone else.
Static began to tremble through the communicator as the message was transmitted back to the Bridge as it came to a close.
"Have you ever met him?" Asked Finn, as Poe began to pocket the communicator.
"Once...a long time ago, I was four...I think. He knew my parents."
Finn's forehead wrinkled in confusion, "how?"
"My mother worked for Leia as her personal escort," Poe replied simply, rubbing his hands roughly against his suit to rub off some oil.
"You've gotta little somthin', righhht..."
"What?"
"There." Kendra reached over to Poe's face and flicked his left cheek bone. A black substance streaked over his jaw and smudged up to his ear.
"Ow!" His hand flew up to cradle his cheek with a pout pursed on his lips.
Kendra smirked and looked to Finn for appreciation. Finn removed his clasped hand over his mouth and let out a hearty laugh, eyes creasing in the corners while his lips spread from ear to ear.
"Ha. Ha. Yeah, laugh it up to you two." Poe frowned as he wiped off his face and hands on a dirty rag before tossing it at Finn's face.
"Ah! Hey! I didn't do anything!" He chuckled innocently, gesturing to Kendra who pretended not to take note of the situation by making her eyes become very invested in the ceiling.
"Yeah, but I knew I would get a better reaction out of you then her."
"HEY!" Was yelled across the hanger, cutting they're laughs into silence. Their heads whipped around to the entrance of the hanger a ways away, seeing Ara herself standing by the sliding door, "WE'RE APPROACHING LUKE'S COORDINATES." Was all she yelled before exiting through the door from which she came. Implicitly wanting them to follow her.
Poe let out a sigh, about to get up before Kendra dropped her heavy boot off of the crate she was using to support herself, wrenching out her hand to help him.
"Thanks," Was the last word exchanged in that hanger. The three traversed to the Bridge, naive to the times ahead.
