Part: 27 || The Ghost of a Man

REY

An
eruption of gurgling groans ripped through my throat, hacking up some thick, liquid substance between her lips. A strange pulling sensation yanked up Rey's throat as she spun over and spat on the ground.

Light poured across her body, twinkling through the dim space. Raising her aching neck, she cast her gaze upward to a colossal sinkhole that she apparently fell through. Sand slowly drizzles down like a light rainfall across the sunbeam. Pain explodes behind her eyelids as bits of stone and sand prick away all sense of normality from the neck up.

A breeze suddenly whooshed through the crevasses floor, cooling Rey's upper lip. Her face transforms into a look of confusion, her right-hand grazes her lip just below her nose. Blood drizzled down the bridge of her mouth to her chin.

A small expression of disgust crosses her. Taking a wrapping from her shoulder, tearing it to use it to quickly wipe her face of grime.

"Hello?" Her voice echoes through the cavern. Darkness claims all the space around her.

"Is- is anyone there?" The stuttered words reverberated off of the sandstone walls. Dust covered the air like a blanket, squinting through the debris, Rey's eyes traced across a nearby wall. The wall was littered with small scratched-in images, almost like...words. Or, writing.

"This place has been dormant for centuries..." The familiar voice boomed from all directions.

Rey flinched back, using her jolt of fear to power herself forward as she got to her feet.

"Who are you!" She demanded, her mouth setting into a predators snarl. She began to whip her head back and forth and spun slowly, looking for something- someone who could be the owner of the mysterious voice.

"Someone who knows you," He replied.

She squints in confusion as her back hits the wall.

"Reveal yourself!"

Rey's sight pans across the floor, fear peeked her senses into a hyper state. Pupils dilated, fingers outstretched, body poised to launch at any future victim. The room grew colder, the musty air was almost suffocating as her chest heaved in and out like she just ran a marathon. Sweat trickled down her back, soaking her face and shirt.

"Calm." Was all the voice said.

Seconds passed before a small illumination hung in the corner of Rey's eye. Curiously she turned her head to inspect the foreign object that calmly floated before her.

Bits of small, blue sparkles floated gently through the air at arm's length with her shoulder, bouncing with a sort of ebb and flow. Without thought, her hand began to reach for them. Like small, knowing creatures, they dodged the movement before she could try and grab them.

"Huh?" Passed through her lips.

Suddenly, more appeared as they began to multiply, a swarm of them came charging towards me. A surprised choke caught up in Rey's throat as her eyes somehow widened even further. Reaching for her staff that rested on the dusty ground by her feet, when it was in hand the small creatures were swirling around her. Before they appeared Rey could barely see through the darkness of the cavern, but now, she was blinded by pure light.

"Ah!" Was all escaped her mouth as she stumbled backward, her hand flying up to attempt to shield her eyes from the painful brightness.

Eyelids clamping shut, her teeth grinding and hands outstretched the scavenger stood her ground.

Rey gasped in pain as Anakin watched her. A patient look upon his young features, the right side of his mouth quirking up in a side smile.

'She wasn't backing down,' he thought.

With the wave of an elegant hand, he brought her to the caverns core. The Force Beings dispersed from around her, fading into the air with a certain beauty Anakin hasn't seen in a long time.

He stood motionless, well, more like hovered motionless as he watched her curiously. Like a hunter peering close by to the animal awaiting his trap, yet, Anakin did not intend to trap, scare nor harm Rey but a test was a test. It didn't matter to him in which way she saw it as.

Disoriented, Rey got to her feet, staggering all the way.

"Hello?" She called, "is anyone there?"

A light flickered on in front of her causing her to flinch back. But this time she recognized the color wasn't the same as the last. This time, a tall looming figure stood before her in front of the red glow.

In front of her stood Kylo Ren.
