Part: 20 || Here for The Taking

[This chapter will be narrated in half Third Person point of View and two hours before chapter •Old Voices•]

The
rain has fallen steadily without let up since before everyone woke. Outside the thick leaves and blades of grass that expanded across the fields droop under the weight of the droplets. The entire Resistance has had so much heat and anxiety that they'd almost forgotten this feeling, the cool freshness in the breeze. The beautiful simplicity of rain and its constant pattern.

Since dawn the base has been buzzing. All of the troops were called to gather in the main hall to attend a speech given by none other than General Leia herself.

"The plans of the diligent surely lead to success!"

Her words were more than just a an inspirational ballad. They touched the hearts of many in the crowd of soldiers, pilots and datamen.
Just to hear her voice meant something to them. It gave them hope that everything just might turn out okay.

"We've all worked too hard just to give up now..."

The sound of the rain beating down even harder drowned out her voice to only slurred whispers from the outside ear. A lone guard stood watch in a tower connected to the main gate. He sighed and twirled his thumbs while humming a random melody he just made up in his head. He knew about the speech that was being held, and wanted to attend yet he had his duties and he was the kind of man that was never known to complain.

Thunder rolled across the malevolent, charcoal sky. The untamed power reverberated and echoed across the green landscape. It seamed to crack the air, as if the very heavens might split apart. It rolled like the ash could of a volcano, becoming a rolling booming rumble. It declared to all the raw power of nature and gave fair warning of the wrath that was to come.

The watchful guard drew his steady gaze to the sky. His ears and mind participating in the game of guessing when the next strike would come.

But it never came.

His eyes zoned in on spots of the clouds that began to grow darker, as if the night was racing through the fog. The guards brows furrowed as well of his lips that pulled into a straight line. The last thing he saw was the enemies ships coming for a quick landing.

LEIA

"No one can can oppress us without our consent, we are here to fight. Fight for freedoms that mothers, children and hard working fathers can't fight for! We are soldiers and proud!"

"yeah!" The army of brave men and women cheered as I wrenched my fist in the air as a sort of salute. I smiled in my small victory to rally them here, we may not be going off to war but I felt the need to freshen everyone's spirits. Even during a war you can tend to forget what your even fighting for.

Thunder boomed outside and hushed much of the crowd. As they're cheers slowly fell into silence, I took in a breath to continue but was cut short by a the perimeter breach siren going off.

A roaring thunder finally died out when I heard a man's voice over the crowd, "THE ORDER!" The owner of the voice came streaming into the main hall soaked to the bone and stopped when he cast his gaze over the staring crowd and met my stern eyes. The guard was gasping for breath, "the- there here-" a single red shot was fired and hit him straight through the side. He gasped but not as loud as the crowd around him, then tumbled to the ground like a tower of uneven stones.

My breath caught in my throat but my soldiers were quick to act. His body was dragged away as blaster fire began to wreak havoc upon the hall.
A tall woman approached me saying in a hurried tone, "we must get you to safety, General!" She gestured for me to follow as another, but a young man, lead me forward from behind.

They lead me through a dozen dimly lit hallways that I had walked so many times before until we came out into a hanger. The blaster fire dulled behind us as we got further away. I could see my ship, but just as well as I could see the tall figure draped in black with a hideous helmet to hide his features.

My guards didn't even seem surprised as they halted and took aim to fire but it was to late. The creature already had us surrounded with First Order troopers clad in their usual white.

"Leia." It spoke in a deep rattling voice, acknowledging my presence as if I were simply a squashed insect on his visor.

"Acolyte." I replied cooly, keeping my face neutral of emotion.

He waltzed up to me heavy footed, the bits and baubles of sith artifacts attached to his armor plating swayed and jangled as he did so. I once knew this man when he was only a boy. He was respectable and had a knack for the Force, yet he was different because he never enjoyed physically using it. If he was going to do something, he was going to use his bare hands, and that's what made him special in my eyes. But the man that I see before me now is no longer a man, he is an acolyte of darkness, a parasite.

"You are correct." He stated almost indifferently, reading my thoughts and still approaching me. Two troopers stepped over and kicked both of my guards to the ground. I blinked hard as they aimed downwards and fired. Painful screams were swiftly silenced at my feet then dragged away, quickly and cleanly. That was how the First Order worked. Disgusting.

The dark man was so close if I simply reached out I could touch him. His breathing seemed slightly labored through his apparatuses of the ugly helmet he adorned.

"I like to use," he wrenched forward and harshly grasped my throat as I let out a yell in surprise, "my bare hands."
I choked as he constricted his grip like the evil serpent he was. The one he's become. His rough gloves almost piercing the skin of my neck. Blotches of black and blue began to seep into my vision, it was only a matter of time before I would drift into unconsciousness. My hearing left me then, and that was before I even noticed my feet weren't touching the ground, they swung and kicked as far out as possible but he was to massive. I attempted to use what strength I had left to look up to helmeted visage just to see if I could see him once more. Half expecting to indulge myself in his deep ocean colored eyes yet all I saw was my constrained expression in the reflection of his visor.

But I did notice, before the world became black, before I lost everything. There was no desperation in my eyes. Only determination. I was scared yes, but I knew one thing.

I was going to see my son.
