Chapter 8 "Stealth"

Everything was happening too fast. The TIE Fighter was straining to get any faster, the scream of the twin Ion Engines permeated inside the cockpit. Everything was happening too fast, thought Sergeant Gill, He cursed at whoever was on the Bridge of the Ars Moriendi, they broke cover too early. He was still too close to the Nebulon- B frigate to escape detection and too far from the Ars Moriendi for cover fire. As soon as he reported seeing the Corellian CR90 Corvette shadowing the Nebulon-B frigate, the Ars Moriendi broke cover and if his TIE fighter could detect the Ars Moriendi, then the Nebulon - B Frigate would see them too.

Damned whoever is on that bridge, Sergeant Gill cursed again. He never felt so helpless and close to dying at the same time before. During previous battles, he always had a chance to escape death, but now it was certain, he knew that no matter how good of a TIE pilot you were, escaping the hail of lasers coming from the CR90 corvette would be a miracle.

He braced for impact, he was already mentally prepared for his imminent death, the alarm bells and pulsing red lights on the console of his TIE fighter confirmed their faith, they were detected and the enemy knew they were close. No use maneuvering, he thought, he kept his yoke dead center towards the Ars Moriendi and pushed the TIE fighter for more speed.

He didn't want to see death coming, but he already pushed his TIE fighter as fast as it could go and there was nothing else to do but wait for the hail of laser bolts hitting his the TIE fighter, so he reluctantly glanced back at the Nebulon-B frigate and what he saw sparked a small flicker of hope, the C90 corvette was retreating for hyperspace. He couldn't help but smile, he would eat dinner tonight, he thought, dodging a Nebulon-B frigate is easy.
