12 || Aftermath
"Attention all crew of the Enterprise. As many of you already know, earlier today at approximately fourteen-hundred hours, an incident occurred aboard the Enterprise. An individual had smuggled aboard in the cargo we had loaded from Ozymandius seven. He also had accomplices, three Starfleet individuals who joined the crew of the Enterprise at Yorktown Base," Captain Kirk hesitated. There was nothing but silence filling the long pause. "They were killed by during the escape." He cleared his throat and continued.
"The warp core and communications were sabotaged and several crew members were injured in the process. The assailant stole one of the Klingon shuttles we commandeered from Raxis-delta and is now heading towards an uncharted asteroid field. In his possession is a very important artifact, which Starfleet command has instructed us to recover using any means necessary." paused for a second to let it sink in. "Kirk out."
The intercom system cut off abruptly. The words still hung heavy in the air as the crew went about their duties. Bones mumbled under his breath as he headed across the medbay, pacing back and forth. He was still too wound up to even try to sit down and relax.
All the injured crew members had already been seen to. There were no examinations that needed to be done. No diseases, injuries or checkups to speak of. There was simply nothing to do that he could distract himself with, other than sit and wait. That's the part Bones hated.
He wasn't half as crazy as Jim was. He didn't have the innate need to run headfirst into danger at all times. But at that moment he wanted nothing more than to find the son of a bitch who hurt his friends and dump his sorry ass out of an airlock. Just wait until I get a hold of him, Bones thought. He would knock him into the middle of next week looking both ways for Sunday.
With a sigh, he sunk into his chair, staring at the blank screen of his monitor. If there was only a way that time would somehow move faster. He was about to head into the lab to try and find something to do when his only patient begin to stir. Bones stood and quickly crossed to where the Vulcan was climbing out of bed.
"Take it easy there. You shouldn't be gettin' up." He told the Vulcan, attempting to make him lie back down on the bed.
"If the captain intends to peruse the target through the asteroid field, he will require my assistance." Spock said in a weak voice, swinging his long legs over the edge of the bed.
"Damnit man that thing wasn't set for stun," Bones told him. "You're lucky to be alive."
"I assure you, luck had no part in this." Spock muttered as he climbed to his feet.
"Hey! You're not going anywhere anytime soon."
Spock stopped at the edge of the bed, leaning on the doctor for support. "Doctor McCoy..."
"You need to lay back down—"
"Doctor McCoy. Where is Lieutenant Uhura?" He asked, raising his head to look at Bones in the eye.
Bones sighed and looked away, unable to meet Spock's gaze. "He took her." He informed him in a low voice.
"Then I must assist in her rescue."
Bones stopped the Vulcan and pushed him back down on the bed. "Now you're gonna lay down and stay put on your own free will or so help me I'll sedate your ass and have you strapped down."
Spock saw the futility in arguing and let himself lie back down on the bed. His eyes drifted shut as he focused on clearing his mind. He knew not even Doctor McCoy would be able to keep him in the med bay for long.
