Chapter 2

"Hand over the wand," he held his hand out.  Star sat on her knees. Looking at Marco. His face was turned  away from her's, arms spread out across the floor. His chest lay motionless.
     "Fuck you," she growled.
     "Language, princess," the monster mocked.
"I'm gonna kill you," she whispered shakily.
"Oh? And how is that?" He asked. He enjoyed this way too much.
"I don't know yet. But I will," She looked at him with pure loathing. It almost made him flinch. Almost.
"I think I'll be the one to do it," they both looked over to the voice. Marco Diaz stood up, slightly scratched up from the beating.
"You should be dead!" Toffee was genuinely shocked. How was this boy still alive?
Star looked at him. A smile on her face. The tears in her eyes growing cold. "Thank God," she cried. Then threw up right there.
"I've picked up a trick or two in my time with her. And done a little bit of work myself," Marco chuckled. He tossed his red hoodie to the side, revealing his grey shirt below.
"Now, let's do this," Marco announced, squatting into a martial arts stance; one Star had not seen before.
Toffee growled before launching a yellow blast at Marco. In which Marco barely dodged; singing his shirt Marco did a back flip and landed on his feet the blast had burned his shirt at his top left side shoulder.
"So we are going all out eh?" He tore his shirt off where it had been burned. "Alright then," he squatted slightly before starting to growl.
The debris and small objects around him started floating; electricity was sparking through the air.
Star was completely lost at this point. Marco was a magic user? But it didn't feel like magic energy. What was this?
His body was surrounded by blue flames, but instead of burning like the monsters, he breathed out and a small smile grew on his face.
"It's been a minute since I had to actually use ki energy." He commented. "This is my flame of energy," Marco stated. Marco then slid back into his new battle stance.
     "You ready, gecko?" Marco asked.
"You'll regret getting back up," Toffee muttered. And the fight began...
-----
Star watched in awe. Her eyes were barely able to keep track of the fight. But from what she saw, Toffee still had the upper hand. By quite a bit. Marco was taking a beating.
"You're pretty strong, boy." Toffee spat, a glint of respect and amusement in his eyes. He grabbed Marco by the jaw and looked him into his eyes. "But I'm stronger," his tail snaked around and grabbed Marco by the throat.
No no no. Star thought. She feared for his life. Even though Marco was showing amazing skills, this didn't look good. She heard his chokes and gasps for breath as Toffee's tail applied pressure.
"This is your protector, Star Butterfly?" He held Marco off of his feet. Applying more pressure in the process.
Star looked up to see Marco's bludgeoned face. His left eye was swollen shut, and his lips were busted. His right eyebrow bled as well. He was in bad shape. One arm hung limp at his side.
"Pathetic," Toffee spat. "Yet still more powerful than any of your mother's soldiers. I'm almost impressed," Toffee then threw Marco, the boy went flying; slamming into the stone wall.
"Star, you have lost. Accept it. The boy stood no chance. And we both know he just displayed more power than you ever have. It's over," Toffee attempted to convince her to surrender. He held his hand through the glass box, signaling her to hand over the wand. She knew it was over.
The wand hovered in her hand. Just above his. She felt her grip loosen. She just wanted Marco to be okay... the tears burned her cheeks.
"I'm not done yet," Marco wheezed. He stood up from the rubble of the wall that he cratered.
"Just stay down kid, I might spare your life if you do so," Toffee yelled. Obviously annoyed by Marco's stuborness.
"Please, Marco... it's over,"  Star sobbed. The wand still in her hand.
"Screw... That," He gasped. God he was beaten up.
He squatted back down, and the same flames and electrical sparks filled the air again. "This again..." Toffee yawned.
"No. This is... a whole... new... Level..." Marco was struggling to get the words out, as his power was rising.
"Wait..." Toffee saw signs of red flames surrounding Marco... His eyes widened suddenly. "No Do-" Toffee started roaring.
"Double Up!" Marco growled out, his body burst into Crimson flames.
"Huh?" Was all Star could mutter. What was this? His power was obviously much higher. But how was that possible?
"Oh, damn this hurts,"Marco shook out. "I've never used this technique in a real fight. Not until now," Marco then disappeared in a flash, too fast for Toffee to see.
"Well then let me join you on that level," Toffee's body slowly became surrounded with a flourish purple like aura. And the fight was on...
-----
Star watched in amazement, and worry, of course. The fight had been going on for at least an hour. Back and forth, back and forth, neverending as their fists collided.
The sound of the impacts were so close together that they all sounded like one big explosion. And the shockwaves of the punches. Both were so determined to win that it sent ripples through the air. She would see the glass that surrounded her slightly crack before rewatching itself.
"What power, Marco!" Toffee laughed, addressing Marco by his real name for the first time.
"I've got plenty,"Marco panted. It didn't look like it.
"As do I," Toffee held his hand up, a large ball of energy formed. "Want to end this?" He asked. The ball grew.
"So bad," Marco sighed, cupping his hands together at his sides as he squatted.
The two let their beams fly toward the other, Marco's was a very light blue. While Toffee's was a bright, sun like yellow. They collided, struggling against each other.
Star saw as Marco's beam fell short,  slowly getting closer to his hands. He was about to lose.
"You can do this Marco!" She cried out. Though she doubt he heard him. His hair whipped in the air as the blasts continued to fight eachother.
The blast met his hands. And all was silent.
The smoke cleared. And Marco laid there with a charred chest, smoke rising from his body. His chest rose slightly, and lowered. He was still alive. Unconscious, but alive.
"How in the hell does this kid exist?" Toffee asked in amazement.
He walked past Marco and straight to Star. Who was sobbing on her knee in the glass box.
"For the last time, Star Butterfly, Hand. It. Over." He reached his hand out. She finally dropped it in his hand.
"Finally. This was enough trouble," he chuckled.
"RAGH!" Toffee felt the wand fall out of his hand. Someone had slapped it out.
He looked down. Shock etched itself onto his gator face. His hand still held the wand. It was just that his hand was no longer a part of his body.
And as suspected, he looked to the right. And there stood Marco Fucking Diaz, his hand down as he had finished chopping.
"Why won't you stay down?!" Toffee roared, true rage filled his eyes.
     Marco flipped forward, uppercutting him.
"Just not my style," he replied. "And I know the perfect way to beat you," Marco flipped over the lizard and landed on his back; reaching into his suit and yanking around.
"Ahah!" He laughed triumphantly. Dimensional scissors were in his hand. He threw them to Star, the glass had opened when Toffee approached her.
"Run Star!" He ordered. She ran away. Grabbing her wand as she did so. This was too much for her. Her mind raced as she ran.
"Now then..."Marco still rode Toffee's back like a Jockee. "Let's finish this... together." Marco whispered. Tophee struggled to remove the latino from his back.
Star turned around, seeing Marco ride Toffee.
"Marco! Come on! We can go!" She ripped a hole with the scissors.
"I can't do that! I have to keep him away!" He grunted between struggles. "Damn it!" His body burst into those crimson flames yet again.
"I'll never forget you," he announced. She looked into his eyes. For the first time since he was kidnapped. And she saw... peace.
"Goodbye... Star Butterfly," and with that. She saw it. His eyes closed, the ground began to shake. A small ball of light appeared at his abdomen.
Toffee was shaking with fear and desperation. Marco's roar was the last thing heard before a deafening explosion erupted around them. Star hopped through her portal at the last second.
She landed on her bum in her room. The portal closed.
"He's gone..." she choked out. "He died... for me," she cried.
      Marco Diaz was no more.
