Winter Solider in Dark Shadow

Nick was driving down the road.

Computer voice: "Activating communications encryption protocol."

"Open secure line to 0405," Nick told him.

Computer voice: "Confirmed."

A picture of Agent Maria Hill appeared on the corner of the windshield.

"This is Hill," Maria told him.

"I need you here in D.C.," Nick told her. "Deep conditions."

"Give me four hours," Maria told him.

"You have three," Nick told her. "Over." The computer hung up. A police car pulled up alongside Nick's car. The two men inside were looking at Nick. Nick looked at them. "Want to see my lease?"

The men turned on their lights, starting to drive forward.

Nick started to drive.

Another police car tore down the road toward Nick, hitting him in the side of the car, pushing him down the road.

The first police car backed toward Nick's car, pushing him back into another police car behind him.

Another police car drove closer from the right, making it four police cars surrounding him.

A picture of a skeleton appeared on the windshield, showing Nick that he had a fracture in his left arm.

Computer voice: "Fracture detected."

Nick's nose was bleeding.

The car that had made Nick crash pulled away.

A black van drove closer.

Computer voice: "Recommend anesthetic injection."

Nick pulled out the anesthetic, injecting it into his arm.

Men dressed in SWAT suits got out of the black van with guns, walking closer.

Computer voice: "D.C. Metro Police dispatch shows no units in this area."

The men in the police uniforms got out of their cars, drawing their guns.

Nick spoke to the car. "Get me out of here."

The men outside started to fire at the car, starting to crack the glass, but not breaking through.

Computer voice: "Propulsion systems offline."

"Then reboot, damn it," Nick told him.

The men continued to fire.

The armor integrity of the car was dropping below 80%.

The men in the SWAT uniforms brought out a battering ram, sliding it toward Nick's car, preparing to break through the driver's seat window.

Computer voice: "Warning. Window integrity compromised."

"You think?" Nick asked, sliding across the seat to the passenger side. "How long to propulsion?"

Computer voice: "Calculating."

The car was system rebooting, at 30%.

The battering ram took its first slam into the window, rocking the car.

Computer voice: "Window integrity, 31%. Deploying countermeasures."

"Hold that order," Nick told him.

The battering ram took its second slam into the window, rocking the car.

Computer voice: "Window integrity, 19%. Offensive measures advised."

"Wait!" Nick told him.

The battering ram took its third slam into the window, rocking the car.

Computer voice: "Window integrity, 1%."

"Now!" Nick told him.

An  automatic gun was deployed from the backseat.

Nick fired the gun at the window, shattering it, shooting the men outside, killing most of them, sending out a bomb to explode some of them, killing them.

Those who remained ran away.

The car was done rebooting.

Computer voice: "Propulsion systems now online."

"Full acceleration," Nick told him. "Now." The car started to drive off at full speed. "Initiate vertical takeoff."

Computer voice: "Flight systems damaged.

"Then activate guidance cameras," Nick told him, sliding over to the driver's seat. "Give me the wheel." He started to drive. Police cars followed. "Get me Agent Hill."

Computer voice: "Communications array damaged."

"Well, what's not damaged?" Nick asked.

Computer voice: "Air conditioning is fully operational."

Nick rolled his eye.

The police cars continued to chase him through traffic.

Computer voice: "Traffic ahead."

"Give me an alternate route," Nick told him.

Computer voice: "Traffic alert on Roosevelt Bridge. All vehicles stopped. 17th Avenue clear in three blocks, directly ahead."

Nick drove his way through traffic, causing minor, minor crashes to stop the police cars behind him.

The men got out of the cars, running after him.

Nick had to stop in traffic.

The men got onto cars to fire toward Nick.

People screamed, running away.

Another police car coming from the opposite direction drove toward Nick.

Nick pushed more cars out of his way.

The men continued to fire.

Nick drove ahead to one of the men firing at him, running him over. He pushed another car into the other men firing at him, driving away, turning around a corner.

Two police cars followed.

A man leaned out one of the cars, shooting toward Nick through his shattered window.

Nick leaned as far back in his seat as he could to make him miss, driving toward that car, grabbing the man with the gun, making him shoot past him.

The other police car drove along the other side of his car.

Nick punched the man in the face, taking the automatic gun from him.

The man drew a handheld gun.

Nick pushed his hands against the steering wheel so the man couldn't shoot him.

The windshield showed that there would be a collision with a semi truck in 2.94s.

Computer voice: "Warning. Approaching intersection."

Nick stomped on the breaks, pulling to a stop.

The two police cars continued to drive.

The semi truck crashed into them.

Nick took a corner onto an abandoned road. "Get me off the grid!"

Computer voice: "Calculating route to secure location."

A man in complete black stood in the middle of the abandoned road, his identity hidden by a hood a cloth over his face.

Nick frowned in confusion.

The man drew an arrow bolt, shooting it into the hood of the car.

It exploded, making Nick flip down the road and come to a stop upside down.

Nick took out a laser light.

Another man with a metal arm walked closer, his identity also hidden by a full-faced mask, using the metal arm to rip the car door off, looking inside.

Nick had cut through the side of the car into the ground to escape.

Man 2 turned to look at Man 1.

Man 1 lowered his bow.

  ✯

After dark, Bree drove to the house she was renting on her motorcycle, parking, getting off. She heard loud 40's music playing from inside, suspicious. She snuck inside through the back window, finding her staff in the hallway, picking it up, walking down the hallway into the living room.

Nick was waiting, listening to the record.

Bree sighed. "I don't remember giving you the key."

"You really think I'd need a key?" Nick asked. "My wife kicked me out."

"I didn't know you were married," Bree told him.

Nick leaned forward. "There's a lot of things you don't know about me."

Bree walked closer. "I know, Nick. That's the problem."

Bree turned on the light, noticing the bad shape Nick was in, in surprise.

Nick held up his hand, turning the light back off, showing her the message on his phone.

Ears everywhere.

"I'm sorry to have to do this, but I had no place else to crash," Nick told her.

Nick showed her the message on the phone.

S.H.I.E.L.D compromised.

"Who else knows about your wife?" Bree asked.

Nick stood, showing her a new message. "Just... my friends."

You and me.

"Is that what we are?" Bree asked.

"That's up to you," Nick told her. Shots were fired from outside, hitting Nick, making him scream. Bree was worried and in shock, pulling Nick into kitchen out of harm's way, going to fight off the threat. Nick grabbed her arm to stop her, holding the USB drive toward her. "Don't trust anyone."

Bree ran out of the house to follow the shooter.

The shooter went into a building.

Bree used her staff to latch onto a railing, pulling herself up, running inside.

  ✯

Bree ran inside, seeing the shooter upstairs, crashing through a door, running down the hallway, seeing a corner at last minute, jumping up against the wall, kicking off against it to land on a table on the other side, jumping to the floor, continuing to run, jumping over a desk, pushing through a door.

At the end of the hallway, there was a window to the roof that let her see the shooter jump from a higher roof to that level of the roof.

Bree jumped through the window, shattering it.

The shooter turned back. It was Man 1 in black from the street, the one that had took Nick's car down.

Bree threw her staff toward him, almost making the hook of it go through his chest.

The blade of the staff hit metal on his chest. The staff almost fell.

Man 1 caught the staff.

Bree looked at him in confusion.

Man 1 looked up, throwing the staff toward Bree, almost making the hook go through her head.

Bree caught the staff just before. She looked up.

Man 1 jumped off the building.

Bree ran toward the edge, looking over the street.

Man 1 was gone.

  ✯

Bree had taken Nick to the hospital.

Nick was undergoing surgery.

Bree and Steve were standing outside the operation room, watching.

Natasha, Ana and Tatiana walked in.

"Is he gonna make it?" Tatiana asked.

"We don't know," Steve told them.

"Tell us about the shooter," Ana told them.

"He's fast," Bree told them. "Strong. I hit him in the chest with my staff. It didn't penetrate because it's metal."

"Ballistics?" Ana asked.

Maria Hill walked closer. "Three slugs, no rifling, completely untraceable."

"Soviet-made," Natasha told them.

"Yeah," Maria agreed.

Nick was going under.

The doctors used the defibrillator

"Don't do this to me, Nick," Natasha told him. The doctors continued to try to bring him back. Tatiana and Ana were just as worried as Natasha. "Don't do this to me, Nick. Don't do this to me."

Bree turned away.

They heard a doctor. "Time of death, 1:03 AM."

  ✯

The Spiders, Steve and Bree were in the room with Nick's body.

Natasha, Ana and Tatiana were all upset.

Bree was holding the USB.

Maria walked in. "I need to take him."

Steve walked toward the Spiders. "Guys." Ana and Tatiana walked out of the room. Natasha put a hand to Nick's head, following them. Steve and Bree followed them into the hallway. "Guys."

Tatiana looked at Bree. "Why was Fury in your house?"

Bree shrugged. "I don't know."

Brock Rumlow walked toward them. "Bree, they want you back at S.H.I.E.L.D."

"Yeah, give me a second," Bree told him.

"They want you now," Brock told her.

"Okay," Bree told him.

Ana looked at Bree. "You're a terrible liar."

The Spiders walked away.

Steve turned to Bree. "Ana's right, you know."

"I know," Bree told him. She looking toward the men behind her, looking at Steve, handing him the USB. "Take this. Don't let anyone else get it. Especially S.H.I.E.L.D."

"What is it?" Steve asked.

"I'll let you know when I do," Bree told him. She turned around, walking toward Brock. "Let's go."

Brock nodded in agreement. "Yeah." They walked past men on the way toward the door. "S.T.R.I.K.E, move it out."
