Chap 27
"Do I look fine?" Jessica asked for the umpteeth time as she adjusted her hair and smoothed out her clothes.
"Yessssss Sica baby." Yuri cupped the blonde’s face and reassured her for the umpteenth time as well. "And don't worry about these little things, they're gonna love you."
Beside Yuri, an extremely nervous Jessica took a deep breath. "Here goes." Yuri said, grabbing Jessica’s hand with one hand and using her other to tap on the doorbell.
The clock was ticking half as slowly at that moment, and the wait was killing Jessica. The blonde was so nervous she was almost shaking, and in an effort to calm her down, Yuri clutched her hand more tightly. Seeing that it didn't work, she instinctively leaned forward and kissed Jessica deeply.
And this, worked. Yuri could feel Jessica relaxing right at the moment their lips touched.
"A-Ahem!"
The two girls broke apart immediately. The blonde blushed to her ears while Yuri smiled sheepishly. "Surprise, Mom! Look what I brought!" she said as she held up Jessica's hand which was entwined with hers.
"Hello Mrs Kwon..." Jessica smiled.
"Way to make an appearance. So this is the first impression you two decide to leave on me?" Mrs Kwon asked, both hands on her hips, giving both the girls a death stare. Jessica lowered her head, disappointed. The blonde had been anxious the whole morning about meeting Yuri's parents. This, wasn't exactly in her list of Pleasing The In-Laws 101.
"Aww, Mom..."
Seeing their awkward faces caused Mrs Kwon to break out in laughter. "Seriously, I'm just kidding with you! Don't you girls know what 'teasing' means? In the dictionary--"
"Mom, you're becoming a better actress." Yuri interrupted.
"I know. It's called talent and it means... Oh whatever it means." Mrs Kwon chirped. "Come in Jessica! I haven't seen you since your high school days!" Mrs Kwon said as she put an arm over the blonde’s shoulder and led her into the house, leaving Yuri stranded outside. "I must say, you were pretty then but you look even better now. Our Yuri must be the luckiest girl in the world."
“What about me…” Yuri muttered under her breath as she watched the duo enter the house.
Jessica smiled at the lady's compliments. "Thank you." she said shyly.
Catching up with them, Yuri shot her future wife a little glare. "Don't be fooled, Mom. She may seem all sweet and shy now but she's really a sergeant." Yuri said, slightly jealous of the favoritism her mother was already showing.
It earned Yuri a death glare.
You’re gonna get it from me later, Kwon Yul!
"Hmmm…" Mrs Kwon pondered, narrowing her eyes at Jessica. “Very good, Jessica. I see you’ve figured out how to handle Yuri.”
“Huh?!” Yuri exclaimed, her mouth resembling that of a lamprey.
"Now my dear, for someone like Kwon Yuri, don’t hold back. If she goes rogue on you, show her who’s boss. And don't you worry, when she bullies you, you come right ahead and tell me. I'll take care of it for you."
"MOM!?" Yuri exclaimed, incredulous.
"WHAT?!"
"I’m the bullied one!"
"Oh ho! Really?!” Mrs Kwon replied with much sarcasm. “How else were you able to get such a pretty girl? Coercion; what else?!" Mrs Kwon argued.
"I have my CHARMS too, Mom!"
"CHARMS?! Like POTIONS and SPELLS?!"
Jessica laughed as the mother-daughter bickering went on. "Stop." she ordered the tanned girl.
"I--" and almost instantly, the girl did as she was told.
Mrs Kwon watched in surprise. "Now that’s what I’m talking about!" she exclaimed. "Control this MONKEY!" Mrs Kwon said as she pinched Yuri's cheek.
"Owww..."
Jessica burst out into laughter while Yuri huffed, unhappy about being the doormat of the 2 women.
Doing a 180 almost instantly, Mrs Kwon put an arm over Yuri and patted the spot where she pinched. "There there, my dear daughter, why don't you go fix us dinner while I spend some time with Jessica? Dad should be coming home soon."
Glancing over at Jessica worriedly, Yuri said, "Mom, what are you..."
"Oh shush. Just go make us dinner." Mrs Kwon said as she pushed Yuri into the kitchen, before re-emerging. Smiling kindly at Jessica, she held Jessica's hand.
"Come dear. Let's go upstairs."
Leading the confused girl up the stairs, Mrs Kwon led her into Yuri's room.
"Yuri's room hasn't changed since high school..." Jessica muttered. The girl had been here a couple of times before for their study sessions in the past; most of which Jessica would wind up falling asleep on Yuri's bed.
"That's cos Yuri disappeared after that. She rarely came home since you left." Mrs Kwon sighed. "I guess it's cos this place brings back memories of you two." Mrs Kwon said as she sat on Yuri's bed. "Come, sit."
Jessica followed suit and settled beside Mrs Kwon on the bed.
"You know, during the times you were gone, Yuri wasn't herself. I could tell, even through the phone calls. Everyone got fooled when she acted all kkab and silly, but I knew. A mother always knows."
It dawned on Jessica that she hadn’t been suffering alone throughout those grueling years. "I-I didn't want to leave..."
"I know, dear." Mrs Kwon said and patted Jessica's hand. "I know your whole… tragic love story." Mrs Kwon teased.
"Tragic sounds about right I guess..."
"I scolded Yuri when she told me everything. It was already enough that that daughter of mine was being stupid and pushing you away, but what's more upsetting, is that Grandma Lee next door was the one who made her realize that. Not her own mother." Mrs Kwon sighed, disappointment in her voice.
"I would have taught her to fight for you."
Jessica sighed. "I understand where she’s coming from. She cherishes family ties more than anything else."
"You're right, she does."" Mrs Kwon said proudly. "Before Yuri left to San Francisco, I told her not to come home until she got you back. That was the least I could do to be a mother to her.” she added, before chuckling. “She actually asked for my permission to propose to you."
Jessica laughed. "Cute... I can just imagine it."
Mrs Kwon nodded proudly. Taking a deep breath, she continued, "I love my daughter, Jessica. And I know how much she loves you. She crumbles when you're gone and it's just heartbreaking to watch." she said with a tinge of sadness.
“Mrs Kwon…” Jessica looked down and bit on her lip. "I ran away from home. Without a word."
"Good choice."
Jessica looked up, surprised by the lady’s response.
“So how do you intend to live here?” Mrs Kwon asked.
“I’m setting up a practice with a friend I met in the States. I’ll be working and settling here for good.”
"Good, good. Doing fine without your father so far?" Mrs Kwon probed.
Jessica paused for a while, before replying, "Better without him, actually. Though, he's still my father..."
Mrs Kwon smiled. "That airhead father of yours? He deserves a tight slap sometime." she ranted, before realizing that Jessica was looking at her with widened eyes. "Oops. Well excuse my French, but that jerk is so blinded by his own principles he neglects simple logic."
Jessica smiled and nodded her head. "My sentiments exactly, Mrs Kwon. I find it really hard to look at things from his perspective. But I guess, he feels the exact same way, and we’ll never see eye-to-eye on that. After all, I got my stubbornness from him."
Mrs Kwon watched the girl in awe, impressed by the fact that she didn’t seem to hold any grudges at her father even at this point.
"Mrs Kwon..."
"Yes dear?"
"Why is it that your reaction towards me and Yuri differs so much from my dad?"
"Because I am an amazing parent.” she stated with utmost confidence, causing Jessica to giggle.
“When Yuri came home the first day of high school and told me about how she met you, I already had my suspicions. My daughter is totally obvious it's embarrassing sometimes…” she sighed and shook her head. “But I was fine with it. I mean, she's my daughter and the only thing I care about is that she falls in love with a person who'll love her back as much as she does. That girl has a heart full of love and naivety that it worries me."
Jessica nodded her head in agreement.
"And as for your dad... I'm guessing he's an extremely principled man, who believes in only one thing. And when something he isn't used to comes along, he gets scared and goes on to do all the wrong things."
"But what if he stays scared forever?"
"He won't." Mrs Kwon dismissed the possibility confidently. "No one can be THAT stubborn. It all boils down to time; it's either your father holds up, or you two do. What do you think?"
Jessica responded by smiling and touching her engagement ring.
Mrs Kwon smiled. "And I'll be enlisting into the YulSic army."
Jessica laughed upon Mrs Kwon's response. "Mrs Kwon, thank you for teaching Yuri well. She's everything anyone could ever ask for."
Mrs Kwon observed the blonde for a moment, and began to understand why her daughter was head over heels with this girl. It was like two puzzle pieces that were meant to be pieced together.
"Seriously, what does a pretty girl like you see in my daughter? She's dorky, immature, mumbles to herself all the time, doesn't even cook THAT well in my opinion, and has a really weird fetish for Ma." she said with disgust.
Jessica shrugged. "She's Kwon Yuri."
"Excellent answer. You've passed the test, Jessica." Mrs Kwon smiled and hugged the girl. "Welcome to the Kwon family."
"Test...?" Jessica mumbled.
There was a knock on the door before it opened. "Dinner is almost ready--" Yuri gasped. "Why are you hugging my wife?" the dork entered the room and exclaimed. "Shoo! No touchy!"
Mrs Kwon sighed as she broke off the embrace. "My dear, just what do you see in my daughter..."
"Mommmmmm……." groaned a frustrated Yuri.
Mrs Kwon laughed. "Fine, fine. You should really go look up the definition of "joke" one day. And go get Grandma Lee for dinner, will you?"
-----
That night, everything went well. Jessica's anxiety had vanished and she was glad that the Kwon parents were pretty much like Yuri; easy-going and dorky. Plus, they had spent dinner discussing about the wedding. Everything was taking off smoothly. The only thing that worried Jessica was probably only the typical pre-marriage jitters.
While the Kwons were clearing up after dinner, Jessica was left alone at the table with Grandma Lee.
"Jessica, come here for a second." Grandma Lee said.
"Okay..." Curious, Jessica shifted to the seat beside the old lady.
Grandma Lee reached into her bag and took out a broach. Handing it to Jessica, she said, "I want you to have this."
It was vintage, it was classy, it was haute couture,
And it was beautiful.
"But why?"
Grandma Lee smiled. "Well, you're getting married aren't you? Don't you know the 4 good luck tokens?"
Jessica nodded. "Something old, something new, something borrowed..."
"And something blue." Grandma Lee said as she put the broach in Jessica's hands. "This little thing is something that I had with me for the last 50 years. It was meant as a love token for my partner before she passed away, but now I see it more fitting for the both of you. And this thing…” Grandma Lee said with the brightest expression on her face, “…has special powers. It will promise your happy ending."
Jessica was at a loss of words, the item in her hands obviously meant a lot to the old lady. "B-but Grandma..."
"No buts. Just take it." Grandma Lee closed and patted Jessica's hands. "Let the broach do what it's meant to do. I insist."
Smiling, Jessica nodded and said, "Thank you Grandma. For everything."
Grandma Lee shook her head kindly. "I feel as if I've known you for a long time, Jessica." she said. "I suppose you two are going to be busy making preparations for the wedding now?"
Jessica nodded, albeit solemnly. "Grandma..."
"Yes dear?"
"Will you walk me down the aisle?"
Grandma Lee could sense Jessica's disappointment in her father for being unable to do the deed. She couldn't help but sympathize with the girl despite the joyous atmosphere that engulfed the house.
"It'll be significant because you helped us reunite." Jessica added.
"Silly." Grandma Lee smiled and patted the girl on her shoulder. "It'll be my pleasure to."
-----
At the end of the night, the two girls laid in the bed Yuri spent her childhood in, silently holding each other to sleep. The faint moonlight streamed in through the windows, providing a slight illumination to the room.
"Seobang..."
Yuri stroked the hair of the girl in her arms and smiled. "Can't sleep?"
Jessica nodded. "I miss this place."
Yuri giggled. "I remember how you always wound up falling asleep right on this bed in the midst of our study sessions."
"Yea... And you would get frustrated." Jessica smiled.
"We can come over more often if you like." Yuri suggested.
"We should." Jessica replied. "You should visit more often. No more excuses."
Yuri yawned a little, earning a little slap on her arm. "Hahaha, sorry. We will, we will." Yuri said with her eyes closed; a day of handling the 2 women in her life had taken its toll.
"Yuri..."
"Hmmm?"
"How long has this been? When did all this start for you?"
"First day of high school, 9 years ago." Yuri replied with the biggest smile on her face.
Jessica looked up at her fiancée. "Even when I was icy and hostile to you?"
"Yea. Don't ask me why. It just... happened." Yuri replied.
"Why didn't you do anything?"
"I was afraid." Yuri said, and then chuckled a little. "I never even had the guts to invite you for a sleepover. And then 9 years later, here we are. 9 YEARS, Sica." Yuri sighed, hugging Jessica even more tightly.
Jessica smiled. "If you had done something earlier, you wouldn't have to wait 9 years for this sleepover."
"But it just proves that we’re meant to be." Yuri added cheekily, before yawning a second time. "By the way... What did Grandma give to you?"
"It's something for the wedding," Jessica replied, pinching Yuri's nose. "Nosey parker."
"Last I remembered, Jessica Jung's marrying someone called Kwon Yuri. I should have the right to know." Yuri rebutted.
"Well then, you'll see it on the day of the wedding." Jessica said.
"Can't wait...” Yuri yawned again. “Can't wait... to marry you..."
Jessica laughed. “And you always said that I was the one who couldn't wait to marry you."
"..."
"Seobang."
"..."
Jessica looked up at the figure beside her, and realized she was already lost somewhere in snoozeland, complete with tongue sticking out. "Silly Kwon Yul... I'm supposed to be the one to fall asleep first."
"Do you know it's been 9 years for me too, Yuri?" Jessica whispered.
Taking just a few more seconds before succumbing to the exhaustion, Jessica watched Yuri silently, taking in minute details of her face. Smiling, she leaned over and kissed a comatose Yuri on her cheek before burying herself in Yuri's neck.
"Good night, Seobang. I love you."
-----
(If only...)
-YulSic’s home, 20:37.
"Seobang, come here."
"Aww Sica... We have to go." Yuri whined.
Jessica shook her head and gestured with a finger for Yuri to come closer. Reluctantly, Yuri stepped towards her, half-knowing what the blonde was up to next. Stopping in front of Jessica, she looked down at the girl.
"You know..." Jessica wrapped her arms around Yuri's neck. "I can think of something else we can do now."
Yuri gulped. Shaking her head, she said, "But we're gonna be late..."
Jessica pouted and took her arms off Yuri. "I don't wanna go."
Yuri picked up the girl's arms and put them back around her neck. “C’mon, it won’t be awkward.”
“It will. I’m sure of it.”
“Well..." Yuri sighed. "I won't force you. I’ll see you later, Sica baby." she said before giving the shorter girl a goodbye kiss on the cheek. Grabbing the house keys from the counter and walking towards the front door, she said, "If I come back late, don’t wait up for me okay?”
Jessica stared at Yuri's back for a little while as she approached the door. The couple had been stuck like glue ever since reuniting in San Francisco, and even the thought of being apart from each other for a few minutes was dreadful.
“W-wait…”
Yuri grinned as she stood by the door, hand tapping on the door knob. “Changed your mind?” she turned around and asked the blonde.
-----
(If only we were a minute later...)
-Café, 21:07.
“Hello again!” the waitress greeted the couple as they walked in. “The usual table?”
“Yup!” Yuri chirped.
The café which Yuri and Jessica frequented 2 years back was almost empty, probably due to the late hour. As the two girls settled at their usual booth in the corner, Yuri observed as Jessica sat beside her solemnly. She knew that it probably wasn’t going to be easy on her, but she also knew it probably wouldn’t be easy on the person they were meeting either.
Anyhow, we need to get over it. Yuri reassured herself. She held Jessica’s hand tightly underneath the table, giving Jessica the reassurance she needed, and hoping that things really wouldn’t turn out awkward.
-Café, 21:12.
The chime hanging on the door to the café rang as a girl pushed it open. Jessica’s heart jumped a little as it woke her up from her trance.
“Sorry I’m late!” the frantic girl rushed towards the booth as soon as she spotted the couple.
“Minnie!” Yuri exclaimed happily as she walked forward and hugged the girl tightly. “How have you been??”
Instantly, Hyomin broke off the hug and flashed a warning signal to Yuri with her eyes.
Oh. Crap. Yuri could almost feel a chill tingling down her spine.
Standing up behind Yuri, Jessica extended a hand forward and said, “We haven’t properly introduced ourselves yet… I’m Jessica Jung.”
Yuri narrowed her eyes at the blonde. Sica taking the initiative… That’s new…
Hyomin hurriedly pushed a dazed Yuri aside and reached out for Jessica’s hand. “Park Hyomin. It’s nice to meet you.” she smiled.
As soon as the two girls were done with their introductions, an awkward silence ensued. Yuri quickly spoke up. “Okay! Let’s get settled in shall we?" she said as she ushered Hyomin in the opposite seat and then pushed Jessica down beside her. "WAITRESS!” she called out.
“Right here! So everyone’s ready?” the waitress asked as she took out her ordering pad.
“Yup.” Turning to Hyomin, Yuri asked, “What would you like?”
“Coffee.” Hyomin said.
“Three coffees, please.” Yuri told the waitress.
“Right up.” the waitress said and proceeded straight to the bar.
Almost immediately, the café had become extraordinarily quiet, except for the occasional whirring sounds of the coffee maker.
Hyomin was fumbling with her bag.
Jessica was spacing out.
Yuri could literally hear her heart beating.
Coughing a little, Yuri spoke up again. “So, how have you been?”
“The usual…” Hyomin smiled. “Busy with preparations for the next album. How about you two? I see you’ve finally reunited.”
“Y-yea! We’re great. There were a few bumps in the road but I managed to grab this girl back.” Yuri reached for Jessica’s hand on the table and held it. “Uhhh... Well actually, we wanted to give you something.”
Hyomin arched her eyebrows upwards inquisitively. “What is it?”
“Sica.” Yuri called out, signaling Jessica to reach into her bag and retrieve a card.
“Here.” Jessica said as she handed the card to Hyomin.
YulSic's getting Married!
As Hyomin took her first look at the card, she couldn’t help but notice how the words screamed in her face. Besides being big in font; they were also big in terms of impact.
Ignoring the little sinking feeling in her chest and forcing a smile, she said, “Well congratulations. It’s been a really long journey for the both of you…”
Jessica nodded, thinking of ways to be sensitive to the girl’s feelings. “Yea… It has been.”
"She can't wait to marry me--" Yuri said with the cheekiest smile on her face, and ended up earning herself a pinch on the cheek from the blonde. “Oww…”
"Stop saying that!" Jessica scolded.
"Hehehe." Yuri giggled as she rubbed her cheek. "Guilty as charged."
Just then, the waitress emerged with the girls' orders. "Coffee's here!"
"Thanks!" Yuri replied happily as the waitress placed the 3 cups of coffee in front of the trio and a basket of accompaniments in the middle.
Almost instantly, Jessica and Hyomin reached out for the basket right after it was placed, each retrieving a creamer. Holding a creamer each, they pulled the lids off and then emptied the contents into Yuri's cup.
Almost too synchronized.
"Oh."
"Oops."
“Sorry!” Both girls exclaimed at the same time.
When both girls realized that they had the same intentions (topped up with the same synchrony), they hurriedly retracted their hands. But it was futile, Yuri's cup of coffee had been bleached. Smiling sheepishly, Yuri said, "Uhh well that's okay. I’m good with latte." she scratched the back of her head and chuckled, inwardly sighing about having too much milk in her coffee.
Both girls went back to tending their own coffees while Yuri reached out for a sugar packet.
Everyone was back to being silent.
Everything was too quiet.
Tearing the little packet of sugar was almost like standing next to a moving train.
Stirring the coffee was almost like standing next to a plane taking off.
You know it's too quiet when you can hear your own breathing... Yuri thought.
Huffing, she stood up, much to the surprise of the other 2 girls.
"I'm..."
Both girls stared at the tanned girl.
"I uhhh..."
Yuri gulped as the two girls kept their eyes on her. One worried, one icy.
"I'm gonna make a phonecall."
"To?" Jessica asked.
"Uhhh... uhhh… Yoona! Remember how she was trying to rope me into Sunny’s plans of messing around with Sooyoung's head and I uhh… I’m gonna call her now… to… discuss… about it." Yuri hurriedly explained. "Have a good chat!" she said before swiftly leaving the table.
"Bad idea, bad idea Yuri." she mumbled to herself as she left the café.
With just the two girls left, the awkward atmosphere heightened to new levels. Deciding to finally break out of this, Jessica spoke up.
"I hope you'll be fine." Jessica said as she reached for the contents in the basket.
Hyomin looked at her curiously. "Fine with?"
"With Yuri and I getting married." Jessica replied, taking Hyomin aback with her straightforward reply. The latter didn't answer. With her head tilted down, she focused on the coffee cup in front of her.
"I'm sorry." Jessica said sincerely, slightly stirring her coffee.
"You don't have to apologize, Jessica." Hyomin attempted a smile. "What matters is that you two are happy. And besides..." Hyomin paused, gaining Jessica's full attention.
"The one Yuri loves is you." Hyomin said. "It's just... obvious."
Hyomin's words gave Jessica some sort of reassurance. It wasn't that she doubted Yuri, but the fact that those words came from someone who loved Yuri as much as she did meant something.
Leaning back against her seat, Hyomin smiled. "It actually feels liberating now, knowing that I'll never stand a chance. About time I moved on."
"I hope you'll find someone who has the capacity to love like you do." Jessica said earnestly. "Thank you for being there for Yuri when I couldn't."
"The past 2 years had been…” Hyomin paused and shook her head. “Yuri was hurting inside and she was just… different. But today, she’s the happiest Yuri I’ve ever seen. So… thank you. For making her happy."
Having finally broken the ice, the two girls smiled at each other. "It's good to finally talk to you, Jessica." Hyomin said. "I have always been curious about you."
"Same here." Jessica responded, feeling relaxed that the awkward atmosphere from earlier was dissipating. "By the way, we are being spied on." Jessica slightly gestured with her eyes while lifting up her coffee cup.
Turning towards the window pane, Hyomin looked out and spotted an inconspicuous Yuri hanging around by the road opposite the café. The latter turned a 180 degrees and pretended to be on her cellphone the moment she spotted Hyomin looking over.
"When did you notice?" Hyomin asked, amused.
"I didn’t. I guessed right from the start." Jessica replied as she sipped on her coffee. "Yuri is so predictable…"
Hyomin giggled as she looked at Yuri, who was still pretending to be on the phone, sneakily taking peeks into the cafe every once in a while.
"Let's pretend we're fighting." Jessica suggested.
"What?"
"C'mon it'll be fun!" Jessica exclaimed. "Dodge me!" she said as her hand came down towards Hyomin's face. Instinctively, Hyomin immediately dodged Jessica's slap attack.
As the 2 girls peeked towards the side, they spotted a frantic Yuri running across the road towards the café.
Hyomin and Jessica smiled slyly to each other as they heard the chime of the cafe door.
"YA! How could you say that?" Hyomin screamed as she stood up and pounded a fist on the table.
"Why can't I?" Jessica protested, utilizing the icy tone that came naturally to her. "I was merely stating facts." she spoke indifferently as she crossed her arms.
"Girls girls! What's going on?!" An incredulous Yuri exclaimed as she neared the booth.
"You..." Hyomin pointed a finger at Jessica.
"What." Jessica threw a glare back.
"You...!!!" Hyomin lifted her coffee cup, all ready to attack.
"WHOA!!" Yuri yelled as she shielded Jessica and grabbed the coffee cup from Hyomin's hand. Pushing Hyomin's hand down and holding onto Jessica's shoulder from where she stood, she begged, "Please for godssakes, STOP!! What the hell is--"
Unable to hold back any longer, Hyomin burst into laughter upon noticing the helpless look on Yuri's face.
"Huh?" Yuri's frowned, question marks popping all over her head.
"You bad actress!" Jessica whined as Hyomin clutched at her stomach.
"Y-you're right. This IS fun!" Hyomin said.
The sudden revelation dawned on the tanned girl. "Oh so you two think it's fun to make fun of me?!"
"Yea."
"Uh huh."
Yuri inhaled deeply and rubbed her temples. "Kwon Yuri, let it go, let it go."
"You deserve it for running out on us just like that." Jessica stated.
"Hmpft. Well it worked, didn't it?" Yuri retorted.
"Yup, it did." Hyomin answered, smiling at Jessica who smiled back.
“Great!!” Yuri chirped as she pushed the two girls down on their seats before settling in her own. Raising up her coffee and taking a sip to calm her nerves from the incident earlier, she asked, "So I suppose we can hold a proper conversation now?"
"Yesssssss."
"Yeaaaaaa."
The two girls replied in synchrony.
-Café, 21:22.
-----
(If only we stayed a little longer...)
"Thanks for coming! Have a good night!" the waitress chirped happily as she cleaned up their booth.
-Shelter outside café, 22:19.
"Oh crap, when did it start pouring..." Yuri complained as she raised a palm out. "You girls stay here. I'll get us a taxi." she said as she ran into the rain, leaving the two girls behind outside the cafe.
"Wait, Yuri..." Hyomin spoke up but the girl had already leapt out of shelter.
Jessica sighed as she watched the tanned girl skip across the road. “It’s pretty heavy..." she said as she raised her palm out, feeling the drops of water seep through her fingers. "Maybe we should stay till it stops."
"Yea..." Hyomin agreed as she watched the tanned girl hail for a taxi in vain, getting drenched by the second. The heavy downpour was restricting vision; she could barely even make out the silouhettes of the cars. Finding a taxi in this weather would be hard.
(If only it didn't rain...)
"Yuri! Come back! We’ll stay till the rain gets lighter!" Jessica yelled.
"Okay!" The drenched girl replied and proceeded to make her way back across the road to them.
The two girls watched as Yuri leapt over a puddle of water in her way. Hyomin squinted her eyes a little when she noticed that there was a slight tinge of yellow glowing behind the girl.
Headlights?
"This rain sure is heavy!" Yuri complained as she took another step towards the shelter.
Wait... Why is it... It's getting brighter...
"I'm gonna need another cup of coffee--" the tanned girl mumbled. "But no lattes this time, okay!!" she exclaimed to the two girls in the distance, failing to notice the expressions on their faces due to the rain.
Watch out...!!
"YURI!!!"
“Wait... Jessica!!”
(If only...)
-Shelter outside café, 22:21.
