Thanksgiving Special (Late)
~~This is totally unrelated to the book, it's just a Thanksgiving "update" cuz why not? Sorry, it's late, I tried to get it up on Thanksgiving XD!~~
Thanksgiving;
"Come on guys, why not?" Ren whined.
"Because, you're not meeting my mother," Shadow replied with crossed arms. Flame nodded in agreement.
"She'd freak out and instantly exorcise you." He replied.
"Then why don't you stay then?" Ren complained. "I don't want to be alone.
"Hey, what about me?" Misty complained.
"Okay, not completely alone, but still." Ren's arms crossed.
"Why don't you just go home?" Rocky asked he had a bag slung over his shoulder. Ren frowned slightly while staring at him.
"Where exactly would I go?" She asked with crossed arms. The only parent she had known was killed in some sort of accident. She had no one else, the rest of her 'family' was scared of her and every time she was around they started calling for an exorcist.
"What do you mean?" Shadow frowned. Ren sighed and explained the situation. "Oh," Shadow frowned. "Sorry to hear that, but still no." Shadow grabbed Flame and dragged him off towards the parking lot. Ren's arms crossed.
"Jerk!" She yelled after them. Rocky pat her head once.
"You can't come with me, sorry Ren." He gave her a closed-eyed smile to her as he leaned down. Ren frowned at him. He turned away and walked off.
"Why am I the only one stuck at school while everyone else gets to go home and see their families?" Ren whined, kicked the door closed, and face planted into her bed. Misty tried to nuzzle her face in under Ren's hair. She succeeded.
"You still have me!" Misty assured. Ren grinned over at her.
"Right! Let's find something we can actually make for a decent special dinner!" Ren sat up, a determined look was now on her face. Misty's tail wagged excitedly.
Within a few minutes, Ren was back to having a face plant on her bed and she was letting out a really large groan. Misty watched curiously. "There's nothing to do and there's no fucking food!" Ren whined and rolled over on her back. There was a knock on the door. Ren went and answered it curiously. Rocky was standing there , glaring away poutingly. Mr. King was standing beside him with a grin.
"I heard you were staying forThanksgivig Break?" Mr. King offered excitedly. Ren leaned back slightly. She awkwardly nodded. "Would you like to have dinner with us before we leave?" He smiled kindly while calming quickly. Ren frowned slightly.
"No, that's okay." She assured sheepishly. Mr. King frowned slightly.
"We're not leaving until-" Rocky covered his mouth quickly. Ren's arms crossed as she gave Rocky a suspicious look. Mr. King smacked his head, causing Rocky to grumble and hold the back of his head. Mr. King sighed in frustration and gave Ren a small smile. "If you're sure." He dug his hand into his pocket and grabbed out his wallet. He handed Ren money.
"You don't have to-" Ren's hands shook sideways sheepishly.
"I insist." Mr. King interrupted while smiling. Ren gave him a concerned smile and slowly accepted.
"Thank you." She smiled slightly. Mr. King nodded with a smile. Rocky was still pouting. Ren grinned at him and pat his head. He seemed confused and surprised by this. Ren grinned again, Rocky's cheeks heated slightly. This was an odd feeling for him, he forcefully ignored. Mr. King smirked slightly while watching. Ren stepped back towards her door. "Happy Thanksgiving." Her smile wasn't the strongest, but it was still pretty meaningful.
"Happy Thanksgiving, Ren." Rocky agreed, his smile was about as strong as Ren's. He felt slightly bad for not wanting to hang out, but this was basically the only time he got to hang out with his dad and not have to worry about anything. He waved and then once again walked off. Ren returned the wave. Mr. King smiled and followed after his son. Ren closed the door and sighed while leaning on it. Misty's head tilted slightly.
"Let's go get something to eat." Ren grinned and grabbed her sword, she motioned Misty after her. They left and went to find a store.
"I'm cold!" Misty complained. Ren glanced at her and smiled in amusement. She picked Misty up and carried her off.
"Do you need a jacket or something?" Ren laughed.
"Yes." Misty huffed and laid her head down. Ren chuckled and continued walking. It was only about 4:00 PM, but it was already very dark. Thankfully, Ren could easily see through it. They passed multiple unappealing stores until they reached a pet store. IT was open, but it was going to close soon. Ren hesitantly entered. She earned a glare from the cashier, who probably wanted to go home. Misty quickly picked out some food she wanted, a sweater, collar, and leash (which she really hated that she had to have) and they bought everything. This didn't leave Ren with much for food and all the other stores were closed. "I'm sorry Ren," Misty whined out worriedly. Ren shrugged and carried her back to the room. Misty continuously apologized throughout the night, Ren just dismissed it, though.
"I'm sorry we're totally alone." Ren pet Misty's head with a frown. Misty's head tilted. "It looks like this might just be a lonely Thanksgiving.
Meanwhile with Shadow and Flame;
"I hate bus rides," Shadow complained. Flame wasn't listening, he had headphones in and he was watching out the window. Shadow huffed and began listening to music as well. She read throughout the bus ride until they made it to their stop. Why they didn't just use their motorcycles or a portal, I wouldn't know, even with being the author.
"Ma! We're home!" Shadow yelled out when walking inside. Their mother, a scrawny but tall woman ran around the corner. She looked so excited. Flame waved to greet her. He closed the door behind him.
"Welcome home, kids! Happy Thanksgiving!" She cheered excitedly. They were both pulled into a tight hug they easily accepted. They were quickly bombarded with questions about how school was and how the whole exorcist thing was going. They easily answered and explained while they helped make dinner. "You didn't bring your friend along?" Their mom paused. She seemed slightly shocked. Shadow shrugged as she glanced up. Their mom frowned slightly. Shadow and Flame exchanged a look.
"Mom, she's a demon." Shadow frowned. Her mom's eyes widened in terror.
"And you're rooming with her?! We need to talk to the principal about that." She grumbled. Shadow frowned slightly.
"I like rooming with her." Shadow shrugged. Their mom sighed in frustration and set up the table.
"If you say so." She agreed, they each got a dish and began to eat.
With Rocky and Mr. King;
"I don't see why she can't eat with us, we're not leaving until after dinner." Mr. King frowned at his son. Rocky shrugged as he ate.
"I dunno." He sighed in response. Mr. King frowned at his son with worry.
"Are you okay?" He asked, sighing quietly.
"Something's been really bugging me..." Rocky replied, though, putting it in words would be hard. Mr. King gave him curious attention. "Max isn't human."
"I'm aware of that," Mr. King nodded back.
"I know that, what if he tries something, though? Like what if he..." Rocky's voice trailed off as he tried to gather his thoughts. Mr. King hummed out in thought.
"That is troubling." He agreed. "We may need to keep a closer eye on Ren..." Rocky nodded back. "Let's just focus on eating for now, okay?" Rocky agreed and they ate, soon after they left for skiing.
Back with Ren;
Ren was asleep and Misty was eating. Everyone else had the weekend off, but Ren had tons of homework to catch up on and reading to do. Her solution?
Sleep through the weekend and it will go away. Great job, Ren.
