Chapter 5
~~The next morning~~
There was a loud knocking on the door, presumably from Flame. "Shadow, get up!" Flame yelled through the door. Shadow was always late at getting up. He had to make sure every morning that she was up and ready.
"She still hasn't gotten up?" Rocky sighed, his hands were stuffed away in his pockets. He was decently cold. "Shado-" the door opened to reveal a fully dressed Shadow standing there. She gave them both an annoyed look.
"Where's Ren?" Flame huffed. Shadow pointed to the bed where Ren laid asleep. She was sprawled out lazily, Misty was asleep by her face.
"I've been trying for like a half hour. She threatened to rip my throat out last time I tried." Shadow shrugged. "Let's just leave her." She nodded.
"Just let me try." Rocky groaned out, he squirmed his way in. "Ren, wake up!" He started shaking her roughly by the shoulder. Ren snatched his wrist, her eyes opening slightly.
"Never. Ever. Shake me awake." She growled at him. Rocky opened his mouth to speak but had nothing to say. "I will rip your throat out of your neck." She threatened and released his wrist. Ren huffed and hid her face in the pillow. Rocky sighed in frustration. Ren glared at him. "If you even think to yell I will backhand you." She grumbled.
"This better not be a daily thing," Rocky warned.
"Don't worry, it probably will," Ren assured. She grabbed the clothes Shadow had given her off the nightstand and hid under the covers.
"Ren, get the fuck up!" Flame snapped as he stepped into the room. He had an odd shade of red dancing off of his skin. He looked angered.
"Uh oh, Flame's mad!" Shadow sighed quietly. Ren glared at him.
"I am getting up. You need to go away." Ren answered, motioning to the three others.
"You can just go to the bathroom! It's my room, I don't have to leave!" Shadow's arms crossed. Ren grumbled and rolled off the bed's side. She fell onto the floor, stood, and trudged along to the bathroom.
She returned within a few minutes, her dry purple and floofed out hair was brushed as decently as possible. Most of it was covered with her black beanie, so that wasn't truly a problem. The black gloves were set correctly and comfortably on her hands, Shadow had given her a red and black flannel she didn't wear, Ren happily accepted. She also wore a surprisingly comfortable pair of gray skinny-like jeans. Under the open red flannel, she wore a red and black skull tank-top. The outfit was much more comfortable than she thought it would be. On her feet, she wore the required black combat boots.
"I feel like I look weird." She sighed when walking out. Her sword sheath rested on her right shoulder.
"You know you don't have to carry that everywhere?" Shadow pointed out. Ren glanced at her sword and shrugged.
"I think I'd prefer to keep it with me." She answered with a nod. Shadow frowned curiously. A thought popped into Ren's head. "Is Misty gonna be able to come to my classes?" She frowned worriedly. Misty glanced up with the mention of her name.
"As long as she not a distraction." Rocky answered, "dad made this policy a while ago that animals were okay in classrooms as long as people allergic to them weren't too close and as long as they're not a distraction." He shrugged. Misty lazily stood and sat, waiting patiently. Ren gave her a questioning look.
"You wanna come?" She asked.
"Carry me!" Misty cheered and sat on the edge oh Ren's bed. Ren gave her an annoyed look. Misty wagged her tail innocently. Ren sighed and picked her up carefully.
"You're a brat," Re grumbled poutingly.
"Why do you always talk to yourself?" Shadow's nose scrunched awkwardly. Ren's head tilted.
" "Talking to myself?" " Ren asked confusedly. "I'm talking to Misty." She gave Shadow an annoyed look.
"You understand her?" Shadow returned the look.
"You don't?" Ren scoffed.
"It makes sense, a summoner only being able to understand their summony." Flame agreed, he was always logical somehow. "No, come on, we gotta get to class!" He complained. Ren went and got her schedule, pencil, and notebook. Misty sat on her shoulder so she was mostly out of the way. Thankfully, Misty was light enough and skinny enough that she easily fit. Flame gave Ren a look of annoyance. "Where's your backpack?" He sighed. She gave him an off look.
"I didn't get one." She shrugged. "I'll get one later." She assured and then left trough the door. Flame sighed quietly and followed after everyone else.
Sometime during the fourth period, before lunch;
Ren was sitting in the back of the classroom, as she had done with every other, and watching out the window, like every other class. Misty was chilling on the top of her desk like every other class. Ren was only half listening to the teacher and scribbling a few things down. She had already done this lesson in multiple other schools. The teacher was calling on random students to answer the problem, none of them seemed to be understanding it. Ren glanced around in a bored way. She was alone in this class, besides Misty. Flame, Rocky ad Shadow weren't in this class. Max was, but he was in a seat all the way across the classroom and he hadn't paid any attention to Ren at all, thankfully. Right now, though, I doubt she'd mind. She was bored.
Misty slowly rolled off the desk, Ren's reflex's caused her to jump up and catch her. This caught the entire classes' attention. Ren's eyes were widened in surprise as she set Misty carefully on the floor. Misty continued to sleep.
"Ren, is it? Since you're so eager to interrupt class, why don't you answer this question, on the white board?" The teacher, who Ren couldn't remember the name of, asked. He leaned back, he had a frustrated look on his face. Shit... Ren thought frustratedly. "Now." He ordered strictly. A few students snickered as she stood and walked towards the front of the room. Max was curious now.
She took the white board marker and spun it around in her fingers as she stared at the problem in thought. Simple algebraic question... She thought and started solving it, she was writing at an awkward angle, but it was clear, large, and legible. She stared at it to make sure she didn't screw up in front of everyone then handed the pen back and went to the back of the classroom where she sat. She rested her head on her hand again and watched the classes' surprised reaction. The teacher gave her a suspicious look then went back to teaching the lesson. Ren stared out the window but made sure to keep an eye on Misty. A bell rang, dismissing the students to lunch.
"Ren, I want to talk to you." The adult ordered as Ren began to walk out with all her stuff. She paused, turned, and walked over. "Were you actually paying attention, or have you learned this lesson before?" He asked curiously. Ren stretched her head around.
"I've learned this entire math book before." She answered. He gave her a surprised look.
"Then why-?"
"I failed math." She shrugged.
"How-"
"I didn't take any of the tests so I failed all of them." Re shrugged, "may I go get lunch now?" She sighed.
"Sure, but you are aware you can leave your stuff here?" The adults frowned, Ren glanced at her desk. She went and dropped her pencil, schedule, and notebook on it. She then left. Misty was walking close beside her. Ren made sure she was not trampled. In the lunch 'line,' more like clump, Ren made sure to keep her sword in front of her and that Misty was in her arms as well. She wasn't losing either of them.
At the tables, Shadow, Flame, and Rocky were seated with a large group. Ren contemplated sitting there, but decided it was best to not do that. Max was a part of the group, so theoretically, she wouldn't have to worry about him.
"Why aren't we sitting with Shadow and them?" Misty frowned while tilting her head. Ren munched on a french fry.
"You can if you want, I'd just rather not." Ren shrugged back, though, she had other reasons to not sit there. She was completely aware that everyone here hated her. She just didn't want to deal with that right now. A girl walked passed the duo, she was crying, no one else seemed to care. Ren frowned slightly as she watched her. Misty followed after the girl curiously. Ren followed Misty. They ended up outside. Ren crouched in front of the hunched over girl worriedly.
"Hey, are you-?" Ren started. The girl looked up, gasped in terror, and the ran off. Ren's frown grew as she took a seat on one of the benches. Outside right now was so much better than inside, it was dry, cold, but not too cold, leaves were falling, and it was sunny. Misty's tail and ears dropped as she laid down beside Ren. Ren patted her head and gave her a fry. Misty ate it quite excitedly. "Man, this school is such a darg.." Ren sighed while leaning her head back. She dropped another fry into her mouth. "Especially when everyone's scared of you."
"I bet it is." Mr. King chuckled as he walked over. He sat on the bench beside Ren. She sat up to look at him. "Not liking your first day of school?" He teased. Ren casually shrugged.
"Not particularly." She ate another fry and gave Misty part of her chicken patty. Misty seemed satisfied with that.
"Where'd you get her?" Mr. King curiously pointed at misty.
"I summoned her." Ren shrugged and pet Misty, a small smile spread on her face.
"What about the sword?" Mr. King reached for it curiously. Ren quickly pulled it away from his grasp. "Max gave it to me in the 'class' last night." She shrugged. Mr. King nodded contemplatively.
"So you know Max?" He asked with a smile. Ren nodded and looked away awkwardly. There was an awkward moment until Mr. King stood. "Push through today, okay?" He smiled reassuringly at Ren, who simply nodded. He nodded back and walked off, back into the school. Ren was pretty much alone outside.
"Man, I'm bored," Ren complained. Another body sat beside her. She glanced over, the crying girl from earlier. Ren faced her curiously. The girl glanced at Ren's food. Ren looked down and held it up with a smile. "Do you want some?" She offered. The girl glanced away sheepishly ad took a few fries. Ren smiled reassuringly to her. The girl never spoke, so they sat in silence the whole time. The girl occasionally took a few pieces of Ren's food, but other than that there was no interaction. "You have really pretty hair, you know that?" Ren grinned at the girl. She blushed sheepishly.
Students with backpacks started to pour out of different areas. Ren looked around confusedly. During this time, the girl snatched up her sword. Pulling it free of its sheath. It cut part of Ren's hair in the process. Ren had that weird feeling, her tail instantly flung out and her eye colored screwed itself up. Misty shot up with this quickly. Ren reached out for her sword, but the girl pulled it away from her. She took the sheath as well and ran off. Ren and Misty chased after her quickly, very quickly. Ren had caught the girl and snatched back her sword and its holder, though during this process, her entire palm was cut open and it wasn't healing. The girl ran off while screaming something about Ren. Ren's eyes rolled as she placed the sword away and hurried to class with Misty besides her.
When Ren entered the classroom, she had to do it very carefully because of the blood dripping from her hand. The whole class stared at her when she entered late. Ren frowned slightly. The teacher stared at her. Blood was noisily dripping from one palm into the other. Max stared at this, he had to force himself to sit. You see, demons who want to mate (*making stuff up outta my ass*) must at least taste the other's blood. Since Max needed Ren to succeed in his life goal, he had to do that.
"Ren, what happened?" The teacher asked worriedly. Ren glanced around.
"I was late?" She shrugged, unsure of what to answer. A few kids laughed awkwardly with this comment.
"I mean to your hand." The adult replied, holding in a sigh. Ren looked at her hand.
"Oh, that, yeah, it was cut open." Ren shrugged. The adult face palmed.
"Yes, I can see that, how?" He grumbled out.
"Someone took this," Ren leaned the sword so he saw it. "And I had to get it back." She answered. The adult frowned.
"Go get it cleaned up, will someone please-"
"I'll do it!" Max shot up, catching everyone gaze. He awkwardly cleared his throat, "I can do it..." Ren's nose scrunched.
"I can go myself..." She replied, stepping towards the door. The adult frowned.
"Do you know where it is?" He sighed. Ren glanced away and sighed quietly in defeat. "Take her, Max." He ordered, waving his hand. Max opened the door for Ren respectfully. Misty went and sat on Ren's desk, she'd catch her up if anything happened, or she'd bring her her stuff after class.
They walked in silence, Max glancing back and forth from the wall to Ren's hand. Max never tried anything, though, he really really wanted to. He couldn't give away his secret. They arrived at the health room, which was in the office, quickly. The nurse made sure Ren washed both hands off ad then poured hydrogen peroxide on the wound. Ren made some ungodly noise during this process. Her tail stuck out and her mouth opened, revealing the sharp teeth and the pain written on her face. The nurse tensed as the wound bubbled around, getting all the nasty out of it. The nurse then ran water over her wound again and wrapped it up. Ren stretched her hand around, blood was already starting on the wrap. The nurse quickly sent Ren away. She was scared too.
When she returned, the bell rang. Misty brought her her stuff.
"Ren," The teacher began. Ren faced him. "You shouldn't carry around something so dangerous if it's going to hurt you so bad." He warned. Ren grinned at him.
"It's fine." She assured then turned and walked out.
Sometime after the main school classes;
Ren had followed Flame into some sort of garage and was watching him mess with his motorcycle. She was curious, though, she did remember some certain ways to fix it since her human father had shown her how.
"Whatcha doing?" Ren asked curiously as she watched him. Flame glanced up from what he was doing the returned to looking at it.
"Fixing my bike," he answered with a shrug. "Can you try turning it on?" He asked while standing and moving out o the way. Ren followed what he said to do and turned the key. It roared to life with a sweet noise. Ren started asking questions on how to use it, and while Flame explained it, she accidentally started moving and driving. "Ren!" Flame yelled while watching. He started after her, but the bike was moving quickly. Ren was freaking out the entire time and driving randomly. People were dodging her quickly. When she finally figured out how to stop it, it stopped abruptly and Ren flew forward, face planting into a tree. She fell down after and laid in motionless pain. She was being watched silently. Flame ran over quickly, Shadow and Rocky were right behind him. "My bike!" Flame whined out in terror. He was mad and upset, the red stuff did that thing again.
"I think Ren died..." Shadow mumbled out. Ren wasn't moving at all. Her sword was on the ground beside her. Misty was up in her room resting. Rocky frowned while staring at a few scattered parts on the ground, it hopefully wouldn't be too hard to fix, it didn't look that way at least. Ren's hand twitched and grabbed her sword. She slowly sat up and crossed her legs to sit properly. Her body ached.
"What the fuck, Ren?!" Flame snapped when stepping forward. Ren glanced over slowly. She couldn't see straight.
"What happened?" She mumbled back while rubbing her head.
"Don't ever touch my stuff again." Flame looked absolutely pissed. He stormed off with his bike. Ren's vision slowly returned and she looked at Shadow.
"You screwed up, is what happened. Pissing Flame off twice in one day? Really bad idea." She nodded to ren, Ren frowned slightly. What is she talking about? Her mind snapped back to what happened. Ohhh.... Well, crap. She frowned nervously.
"Damn, Ren." Rocky groaned, leaning back. Ren slowly stood, with the support of the tree.
"It was an accident..." She muttered back. Quickly she was able to stand on her own and walk again.
"Doesn't matter," Shadow replied. "You are totally screwed. Come on let's go." She ordered and pulled Ren back towards her room.
Throughout the Exorcism class;
Ren was seated alone and even more bored than ever. She was also quite frustrated with her feelings because she felt bad. She hated feeling bad, or even caring. That wasn't a thing she was supposed to do. Flame was on the other side of the room with the pink haired girl. Ren didn't trust her at all. If anything, she was probably turning Flame against Ren. That wouldn't be a surprise, he already hated her enough. It'd be an ease to turn him against her. Rocky and Shadow had seated together again, and Max was teaching. Like the day before, Ren wasn't too keen on paying attention, though, she got the main parts of the lesson she needed to know.
After class, back in her room;
Ren was trying to read the stupid textbooks to catch up. Occasionally she would scribble down some notes, none of them were too detailed, though. Just numbers of pages that would be easy for her to remember the content. Within a bit, though, she got bored and just gave up. Misty was asleep on Ren's pillow and Ren's sword was beside her. Shadow was in the shower. She glanced at the door. Maybe if I fixed it he wouldn't be so mad? Ren suggested to herself. No, if he found out I did it, he'd kill me... But what if he didn't need to find out? Yeah, why the frick not? As long as no one's there, it should be fine. She glanced at Misty and nodded to herself. She left the room quickly before anyone could see her go.
The garage-like room was void of people. Ren went to Flame's bike silently and stared at it. She had to remember exactly what to do, and when she did; she went to work.
Meanwhile;
There was a knock on the boys' room door. Rocky glanced over from the TV, he sighed. Why is Shadow out there? He could see her heart (*is once again making up crap cuz it's logic apparently*) through the door. You see, everyone may have the same shape of heart, but no one quite has the same pieces to it. Shadow's was a neutral color, gray, though if someone had looked at her physical heart it would be red.
Everyone has their own color to their heart that represented how they were as a person. Neutral was gray that meant she was both bad, in a way, and good in a way. Everyone had this color, except demons. Demons had black hearts. Different levels of demons had different shades of black. Because of Rocky's abilities, he could see he was a demon and who was just human. He knew about Max, he just wouldn't tell anyone yet. Mr. King, his father, had the same ability. Hearts could show emotions as well based off of what color they radiated. Currently, Shadow seemed very worried.
Rocky went to answer it. Shadow was standing there with a small frown. Flame walked out from the back of the
"What's wrong, sis?" Flame asked.
"Ren disappeared again. She left Misty and her sword too." Shadow answered in a worried rush.
"Well, if she left without them she must be coming back," Flame assured. Even though he as frustrated, he was still quite worried. Rocky hummed out in thought. He glanced around. Though he had such a unique power, he couldn't see very far.
"Did you check the woods where she was yesterday?" Rocky suggested. Shadow nodded. Rocky frowned and quietly. "Let's see if she downstairs somewhere." He shrugged, they went to find Ren.
Back with Ren;
Ren had already finished with fixing it. Rocky's voice was heard from the other side of the door. Ren's eyes widened slightly.
"I think she's in here," Rocky suggested.
"Why would she be in there?" Shadow questioned. The door opened, but by that time Ren was already in the rafters. She watched from above. Rocky was looking around, he caught sight of her black heart, it was radiating with worry, curiosity, and slight horror as if she was scared to be caught. His eyes traced over it dismissively. He dismissed it by not looking for too long.
Shadow was looking around too, like her brother; she had this problem with black radiating of her skin when she was angered, though, it took a lot to make her that mad. Even though Flame had a hard time with not getting mad, every time he did it was pretty bad. Shadow's other ability is to see through heavy shadows, she could see Ren as well.
On the other hand, with Flame, when he gets mad he has strong red colors radiating off of his skin when he was mad. Shadow and Flame were trying to learn how to control such a power, to use it to their advantage. The twins had learned that if their flames touched, they could easily get injured. Anyhow, Flame also had an extra ability, he could see and move through flames, hence the name. He could also tell when someoe was lying. That's actually how they got their names, the abilities they contain. Rocky, however, got his name because his father wanted him named that.
Anyway, Ren watched as they looked around. Flame paused when staring at his motorcycle. "Did one of you fix my bike?" Flame asked in amazed surprise.
"No?" Shadow answered while giving him a questioned look. Rocky glanced over curiously. His head shook.
"That's weird," Flame mumbled out. "I didn't either." He sighed out quietly and looked around. "I don't see her in here."
"Yeah, I don't think she's in here. Let's check the cafeteria." Shadow agreed, though, she was lying. Rocky nodded and headed for the door. They left. Ren smirked and dropped to the floor. She sighed quietly and rubbed the back of her neck.
"At least he doesn't seem mad." Ren nodded to herself and went to her room, concluding her long and boring day. Eventually they did find Ren in her room. Shadow was totally peeved about that.
