Chapter 8
Victoria's POV
When we arrived at the police station Captain Allen was waiting for us.
"So what did you get?" He asked.
"Not much, but we do have a few theories," I said.
"And the wife and son will be coming in tomorrow to give formal statements and the victim's partner, will be dropping some of the threatening letters they received. That might help our investigation," Tim told our Captain.
"Well let me know what you find, the sooner we can put this case in the ground, the better. Mr Green is a prominent figure in society and if we solve his case faster we can put everyone to rest. And keep a tight lid on this case, the press is already everywhere," he said and Tim and I nodded.
"Finish those reports and then you're free to go," he said curtly before he left me and Tim to our work.
I quickly got out my phone and texted Jaydan a message.
Code Yellow
Jaydan and I made our own codes for things we like to do, it worked effectively when we only had a few minutes to spare and we had a lot of work to do.
5 o'clock, I'll bring the Pizza.
Jaydan replied and I sent him a quick okay. Code Yellow referred to a pizza date at the lair, the secret lair Jaydan still kept and we frequently visited, especially if we wanted to get away from everyone and everything.
I placed my phone away before I finished my report and made notes about everything I received from the crime scene. I also did some research on the company Mr Green and Mr Samuels owned. Anything that told me more about their business and I made a note to get a warrant for the business' financial statements.
By the time I was done, the clock just struck 5 o'clock I packed up my belongings and bid my co-workers goodbye. I made my way to Jaydan's car and because of the code Yellow, I was grateful I had Jaydan's car who had the remote and keys to the secret lair in the car.
A few minutes later I was busy getting everything ready in the lair. The lair looked the same, the walls was just a bit more covered with pictures of me with Jaydan and the Shadow, which I insisted upon. Just a little memoirs of the times we shared in this secret hide out of ours.
While I waited for Jaydan to arrive I started to turn the white wall next to the small living room into a deduction board where I pasted the pictures of the victim and the pictures of the people connected to the victim while pasting the notes I wrote about the different people next to them.
"Honey I'm home," Jaydan yelled from behind me. I jumped in fright.
"Jay!" I exclaimed as I placed a hand on my heart while turning around.
"Sorry, Love. You must have been so busy that you didn't hear me come in," he said as he came over and grabbed me in a hug after he placed the pizza box on the counter.
I hugged him back, he still gave the best hugs in the whole world.
"Sorry, I just had to get all this out of my head," I said as I pointed to the wall.
"And what is all this?" Jaydan asked as he pointed towards the wall.
"Well, this is the reason you were left alone this morning," I said.
"About that, do you know how much you owe me," Jay said.
"Why?"
"You left me with three wedding crazed women. If it wasn't for my dad, I would've rushed to your crime scene, kidnapped you and we would've boarded the first flight out of here," he said as he dragged his hands through his hair.
"Was it really that bad?"
"You have no idea. 'I think we should use these jars', 'no Amelia they are simply ghastly how about these' and the wedding planner turns to the two bickering women and say, 'ladies, how about we let the groom decide' and then my worst nightmare takes place. All three women turn to me for the decision. I can't choose one without insulting the other and believe me I don't know whose wrath is the worst, your mother or mine," he explained.
"Aww you poor baby," I said as a cupped his cheek with my hand.
"Yes I know, I barely survived," he said with a pout.
"Aww, but maybe a slice of pizza well help you feel better," I said.
"You read my mind," Jaydan said giving me a huge grin.
Minutes later Jaydan and I were sitting snuggling on the coach eating pizza while I told him about the case. We shared thoughts and theories and it brought back memories from the past.
"I missed this," I said as I snuggled closer to Jaydan.
"What? Cuddling or our mystery solving days?" He asked.
"Both. I just miss this, using our knowledge together," I said.
"Me too. I miss our secret late night escapades, even though you didn't know it was me," he said.
"I can't believe you heard everything that was discussed with my mother about you," I said in disbelief.
"I was grateful for that, at least I knew you liked me as much as I liked you," he said.
"So much that you placed motion sensors and hidden cameras around my house," I said.
"I had to make sure you would be safe, you're the best thing that has happened to me in years and I will always make sure nothing takes you away from me," he said as he placed a kiss to my temple.
"I can't wait to marry you," I whispered.
"Me too, I waited a long time for this," he agreed. We waited a long time and I was finally ready to get married. I know how most girls planned their wedding since they were in diapers, but I didn't and right at this moment I didn't really care for all the frilly things. All I wanted was to walk down that aisle and marry Jaydan Stewart.
"What are you thinking about?" He asked as he drew patterns on my arm.
"About us. How much I want this wedding to be over with," I said.
"Wow, someone is eager to become Mrs Stewart. But honey, I do need to ask, was it my looks or money that attracted you?" He asked teasingly.
"Since I've seen hotter guys, I'll have to go with the money," I said.
Jaydan started to tickle me ruthlessly and my laughter soon filled the entire lair.
"Take that back," he demanded.
"Never," I said bravely as he continued to tickle me mercilessly.
After my stomach started to ache and I couldn't handle the tickling anymore I called for a truce.
"No, I will not stop until you say 'Jaydan is the hottest guy I know'," he whispered in my ear.
"Okay okay, fine. Jaydan is the hottest guy I know," I said and Jaydan released me.
"See, was that so hard?" He asked.
"Yup, it was since it was a lie..." I said before Jaydan started to tickle me once more.
"I'm kidding! I'm kidding," I screamed when I felt like I couldn't laugh anymore.
"I thought so," he said as he stopped tickling me and grabbed me in a side hug.
"But on a more serious note, do you think the wife is responsible?" Jay asked.
"Well neither she or their son has an alibi, they were both in the house with the victim and they both had the perfect opportunity. The wife could've snuck back down stairs, knowing that her son wouldn't hear her and killed her husband. Or the son could've killed the father, because he knows his mother drinks sleeping pills and nothing could wake her, but the only problem we have is the motive," I explained.
"That's what you must figure out, and the gun?" He asked.
"There was no gun, the killer obviously tossed it. The faster we find the gun the faster we can find the killer," I said and Jay agreed.
"Maybe you will find something interesting in those letters tomorrow? The ones Mr Samuels, the partner is bringing by. And you said the wife and son are coming in for formal statements, maybe they remembered something by then," Jay said hopeful and I hope he was right.
"I hope so too. But getting back to the wedding stuff, how many choices do we still have to make?" I asked.
"After my quick escape yesterday, I would say a few. But the wedding planner called me today, and we are meeting her at my house for the last few decisions, she said she would want to start to work on the wedding as soon as possible and I agreed," Jaydan told me and I was happy we were almost done with the planning. At least the parts we needed to do. The rest was left to the wedding planner and I was grateful because it would be very hard to focus on a wedding while I had a case consuming my mind.
Jaydan and I spent the rest of the night talking until the clock struck ten and we decided to call it a night. We threw away the pizza box and Jaydan and I locked up. I took a picture of my deduction board to show Tim in the morning.
After the lair was locked up Jaydan drove me back to my apartment, he left his car in the garage at the lair so that he could drive the car I took this morning. I still loved this car. It was the one he used to pick me up for our first date.
Once we arrived my apartment I gave a long goodnight kiss.
When he drove off I headed up to my apartment. I was beyond tired, but I didn't dare tell Jaydan that. If I did he won't let me stay up this late in the nights, and this was the only time he and I had to spend together.
As soon as my door was locked behind me and the lights of my apartment were switched on, I found another yellow note. This person just didn't know where to stop.
I hear the wedding bells will be ringing soon, I wonder how your dress will look on you
This stalker knew way to much for my liking. How could he have possible known that I picked a dress today? How closely was this stalker watching me?
I knew I probably should tell Jaydan about my little stalker problem, because this was seriously getting out of hand. But I was scared that the stalker would expose Jaydan's secret or worse, get rid of him permanently.
How do you find a stalker in this busy city? And how would I find someone who is following me, without the help of anyone?
I couldn't go to Tim either, because he would tell Jaydan in a heartbeat. Tim always told Jaydan things that concerned him about me. It was something Jaydan admired, but which I despised. It's not like I don't want to be honest about everything with Jaydan, but I was worried for his safety.
I felt exactly the same way I did when Jaydan and I were starting to date while I was busy helping the Shadow. I started our relationship with dishonesty and now it seems like I was going to start our marriage the same way. The only difference is that I doubt Jaydan is my stalker too this time.
Even though Jaydan would make the perfect stalker, because he knew absolutely everything about me he would never do something like this.
I didn't know what to do about this stalker, but I had to do something before it was to late.
