Chapter 4

Victoria's POV

After I crumbled the letter and tossed it in the garbage, I went to my room to get dressed for my dinner with Amelia and Jordon. Once I was dressed and ready to go, I locked my apartment before I walked back to my car. All the time my thoughts were racing with thoughts about the stalker and who he could be.

I didn't understand his motive for doing this. He knew that the Shadow was Jaydan, but he didn't use this information to get money or something else, he just sent me notes that clearly told me that he knew what I was doing and that he has been clearly watching me. But I couldn't understand the purpose, what does he get out of these letters? What does he get out of watching me?

I was lost in my thoughts that I almost turned into the wrong driveway, luckily I saw my near mistake before I turned into the Stewarts' driveway. I parked in front of the house and after grabbing my keys and my phone, I went to the door.

I knocked two times before, Alexander, the butler opened the door for me.

"Good evening Ms. Wills," he greeted.

"Good evening, Alexander. And please call me Victoria, the whole Ms. Wills thing makes me feel old," I said with a smile.

"Of course, Victoria. Amelia and Jordon asked me to tell you that they are at the pavilion waiting for you," He said and I nodded. I've been here so many time that I knew exactly where to go. The pavilion is at the back of the house and you can get there by going through the ballroom. After closing the door, Alexander lead me to the ballroom doors.

"You know the way from here?" He asked and I nodded. He gave me a small smile before he left me to find my own way.

I opened the doors and what I saw shocked me. Hundreds of small lanterns were placed on the ground forming a path to the back door.

I had a feeling that this wasn't a dinner with my boyfriend's parents...

My thoughts were confirmed when I followed the lanterns to the back door where none other than Jaydan stood under the pavilion. There were more lanterns leading to the pavilion and the pavilion was covered in small lights, there was also lanterns hanging from the pavilion's ceiling.

Jaydan gave me a grin as I approached the pavilion.

As soon as I stepped foot in the pavilion, Jaydan dropped to his one knee and pulled out a ring. A gasp escaped my lips, as tears formed in my eyes. My handsome, dashing, amazing boyfriend was proposing to me.

"Victoria Wills, will you do me the honour of becoming my wife? Will you marry this man who is an absolute fool for you?" He asked and I could only nod eagerly. I was scared that my voice would betray my words.

"Is that a yes?"

"Of course it is a yes!"

Jaydan placed the ring on my finger, it was a small ring with a diamond flower on. Once the ring was on my finger Jaydan stood up and grabbed me in a hug before crashing his lips to mine.

"You just made me the happiest man in the world," he said.

"And you just me the happiest woman in the world," I said with a smile.

"You didn't suspect anything today?" He asked.

"No, so that was all for show? The phone call? The meeting?" I asked.

"Yes, I was here the whole day setting everything up and only left to get you some coffee and doughnuts. And I also had the cooks make your favourite," he said as he pointed to the table behind us that was full of delicious food.

"Oh Jaydan, this is wonderful," I said as he lead me to the table before pulling out my chair for me.

"Anything for my future wife," he said with a wink.

"You just couldn't wait to use that, could you?" I said with a laugh.

"Well I have been waiting for 4 months so I am very excited."

"You planned this for 4 months?" I asked shocked.

"Yes, I waited for you to finish your first case and to find your feet in your job and everything before I sprang this on you," he explained.

"Thank you for being so thoughtful," I said as I placed my hand on his, what did I do to deserve such a thoughtful man?

"So that look your mother gave me last night..."

"Yeah, that was more for me. I told them four months ago that I was going to propose. I wouldn't have told them, but my mother found the ring and I was forced to tell them. They just scolded me each and every night since then for not proposing to you yet," he said with a chuckle.

"Please don't tell she already planned the wedding for tomorrow," I said jokingly.

"Ooh yes, thank you for reminding me. Our wedding is tomorrow 8 o'clock and don't worry I already picked out a dress," he said as he teased me back.

"Please tell me it is at least beautiful? And it has lace?" I asked.

"Ooh, I just took a plain one."

"Then I'm not walking down the aisle tomorrow," I said.

"Aww then I guess I have to get a girl who would appreciate the dress..."

"Nevermind, I'll take it," I quickly said.

"Thought so," he said with triumphant look," but to more serious matters, the engagement party is going to take place next week Wednesday. Is that fine with you?"

"It's fine with me, the sooner I can show all the girls out there that you are mine, the better," I said with a cheeky grin.

"Oooh is that so, you want to show all those girls out there who finally captured the well sought after Mr Stewart," Jaydan said.

"Well sought after? Modest aren't we?" I asked a bit teasing.

"Of course, isn't that how you know me?" He asked with fake confusion.

"Ooh yes yes, the well sought after Jaydan Stewart, the epitome of humbleness, how could I possible forget?" I asked in mock disdain.

"I wonder the same Ms Wills, soon to be Mrs Stewart," Jaydan said. I burst out in laughter at our antics. We were so strange sometimes, but that was what I liked the most of our relationship, we were our true selves around each other.

"But on a more serious note, when do you think our wedding should be? Do you have a time in mind?" I asked Jaydan after my laughter seized.

"Well I was thinking about in four week's time," Jaydan said and I gave him a shocked expression,"Of course if it is too soon I completely understand, we could always-"

I quickly cut him by placing my hand on his.

"It sounds perfect. If we can plan everything in that time then I would be glad to walk down the aisle at the end of the fourth week," I said with a smile. Jaydan let out a sigh of relief.

"Thank goodness, I was worried that it might've been to fast for you. But if your fine with then I'm also fine with it," Jaydan said excited.

"Then at the end of four weeks we would be Mrs and Mr Stewart," I said with a silly grin on my face. I couldn't believe I was planning my wedding. After 5 years we're finally going to get married. I was beyond excited and  four weeks couldn't pass by soon enough...

"Are you alright?" Jaydan asked and I realised that I must have been lost in thought.

"I'm more than alright, I'm great," I said with a big smile on my face, I smile I had a feeling that won't be leaving my face soon...

The next day there was a a hum of activity in the office when I entered, everyone congratulated me on my engagement and I was a bit surprised. How did everyone know already? I haven't even told my parents yet.

When I arrived at my desk, Tim was already waiting for me with a newspaper in his hands.

"I believe congratulations are in order?" He asked.

"So it's already in the newspaper?" I forgot that Jaydan asked me last night if it was alright if he made the news public. It didn't bother me that everyone knew, it would've come out sooner or later, and I was to happy to care.

"Yup, and everyone is talking about it. You caused quite a stir," he said as I took a seat in my desk.

"It's more because of Jaydan than me. He is the famous one, I'm just the fiancé."

"Hush pash, you are a upcoming detective and your reputation already precedes you, just read this," he said as he hands over the newspaper. In the newspaper a photo of me and Jaydan could be seen. It was a photo that was taken last year at Amelia's fashion shows I attended with Jaydan.

Under the photo was the description:

Jaydan Stewart, and his now fiancé, Victoria Wills, one of New York's uprising detectives. Jaydan Stewart proposed last night, and we are all excited to see this exciting occasion.

"Wow, an uprising detective? That is interesting," I told Tim before I handed his paper back. Just at that moment my phone rang and with one glance I quickly answered.

"So uprising detective? Was that your words too?" I asked Jaydan teasingly.

"So I assume you saw the paper?"

"As much as I would love to take the credit for that, I can't. I only shared the picture to stop their harrassment.  I thought it would be better to give them a photo we both would approve than one they take on their own. Are you regretting saying yes to marrying me yet?"

"No Mr Stewart, I'm not easily scared off as you might think."

"That's what I was counting on. Anyway I wanted to tell you that my mother organised a wedding planner for us, now before you say it is fine I want to know if you are really fine with it? Or would you prefer that we plan everything on our own?" Jaydan asked.

"Jay, I'm fine with the wedding planner and besides we're both very busy and sometimes things get too much so I would appreciate the extra help. When is this meeting with this wedding planner?" I asked as I started to look at some of the files on my desk.

"Tomorrow, which my mother also took under her control. She is beyond excited with the preparation of the engagement party also," I couldn't help but laugh, trust Amelia to take control of everything.

"Well then I'm glad that our engagement party is in great hands," I said.

"I guess, but Vic remember this is all for you. If there is something you want or don't want you just have to say and-"

"I know, Jay. And I will, but all I care about is that we get married, and soon," I said earnestly.

"That is all I care about too, that is why I'm allowing my mother to organise the party and wedding planner. I just want you to have the best wedding in the world," he said and I couldn't help but smile.

"Jay, I don't need a big wedding, I just need you and the preacher and them I'm happy," I said.

"Don't tell my mother that! She will lock us in a room until the wedding is ready and she can force us down the aisle," he said and I could already see Amelia locking us in a room to keep us from eloping.

"That won't surprise me," I agreed.

"Nope. Just excuse me a sec, Vic.  Yes...I know, okay I'm on my way.  Vic, I nee to go, but enjoy your day and let me know when you've decided when we're going to elope."

"I will, see you later and love you!" I said before I hung up.

"So when is the wedding?" Tim asked.

"We are planning for the end of the month," I said before my phone rang once more. A groan escaped my lips. My mother was calling and I already knew I was going to get an earful because I didn't tell her about my engagement personally.

I swiped the green icon and answered, bracing myself for what is to come...

So Jaydan finally asked the question! But how did the stalker know Jaydan was going to propose?

Happy reading!
