Chapter 3

Victoria's POV

I was woken up by my alarm clock at 5:30. I quickly quieted the annoying sound before I got up and prepared for work. After a quick shower and a fresh change of clothes I was ready for the day. I ate a bowl of cereal before packing myself lunch for the day. Jaydan called and I answered on the third ring.

"Hello," I said as I packed my sandwich into a plastic container.

"Morning beautiful," he said and I couldn't help but to smile, how could this guy still get me to grin like an idiot?

"Morning Jay, did you sleep well?" I asked as I quickly rinsed out our coffee cups from the previous night while clutching my phone between my ear and shoulder. He always called me each and every morning to wish me a great day, a really sweet and kind gesture.

"Great and you?" He said and I heard a TV in the background. He was probably catching the news before he left for work, like he always did.

"Great. So at what time should we be at you parents' for dinner?" I asked quickly.

"At seven, she is pulling out all the stops tonight, she already reminded me not to be late and to remind you also," he said.

"Sounds like Amelia," I said with a giggle, I looked down at my watch and saw that it was 7:15, I had 15 minutes to get to work.

"Jay, I need to go, see you later and have a great day!" I said quickly.

"Oh goodness, is that the time already! Have a lovely day, my love and see you later. Love you," he said.

"Love you too," I said before I hung up. No matter how many times he calls, I'm always excited to hear his voice.

I shake my head before I grab all my belongings and leave my apartment ready for the day to begin.

"Goodmorning," I greet Tim a few minutes later as I place everything on my desk.

"Morning partner of mine, so how was you family dinner," he asked as he continued to type away on his computer.

"It was great , except for the fact that Amelia thought I was pregnant," I said as I recalled last night's events.

"And are you?" He asked as he wiggles his eyebrows, "because I really would hate to be without a partner for a few months."

"Goodness, no. I'm not and unfortunately you are stuck with me," I said as I placed my jacket over my chair before taking a seat.

"Lucky me!" He said enthusiastically. I couldn't help but grin. Yes, Tim wasn't the same as Jaydan, but he was a great partner all in his own way and I felt lucky to have him.

"So how's Gracie?" I asked as I start to organise the different files that were cluttering my desk.

"She is fantastic, except for the morning sickness she couldn't be any better. We are going to pick out some paint colours for the baby's room," he said and I could see his excitement.

"Do you know the gender?" I asked.

"No, and we don't want to know, so now we are only buying colours that could be for boys or girls. Gracie wants it to be a surprise and I support the decision. Of course the grandparents disagree, but I guess it is not their decision to make." He explained and I agreed.

"Excuse me detectives, Mr and Mrs Lee is here, they want to see you two. I told them to wait in the conference room," Tom, one of the officers, informed us. Tim and I shared a glance before we thanked Tom and made our way to the conference room where the couple waited for us.

"Mr and Mrs Lee," I greeted as Tim and I entered the conference room. Tim closed the door behind us before he joined me at the table.

"Detectives, we are so sorry to disturb, but my wife and I just wanted to drop by and thank you for your great work in capturing the man responsible for our dear Sarah's death. The captain informed us that Jon Anderson has been arrested," Mr Lee said.

"That is correct," I said with a grim face.

"I can't understand why he did it? We allowed him into our homes and hearts, we thought he and Sarah were doing great. I guess we were deceived," Mrs Lee said as she dabbed her eyes with a tissue, tears shining in her eyes. The death of Sarah has been a great shock for them. I still remember how I had to go break the news to them. That was the worst thing I ever did in my entire life.

"He thought Sarah and her boss was having an affair. She was being secretive about a suprise gift she got him for his birthday and he thought the worst. He confronted her and she kept denying everything, she didn't want to spoil his gift and thus he killed her," Tim explained the motive we uncovered.

Mrs Lee let out a gasp, completely appalled that her daughter has been murdered because of a suprise gift. Mr Lee quickly placed his arm around her to give her some comfort. He thanked us for our service once again and we stood up ready to leave.

"Mr and Mrs Lee, I'm truly sorry for your loss," I said again before they nodded and I left behind Tim. This was the hardest part of the job. Telling a person why his or her loved one was killed so thoughtlessly.

"Well that was difficult," Tim said as we returned to our desks.

"Tell me about it, I can't believe someone could murder someone so cruelly," I said.

The rest of the day was spent doing paperwork and completing reports, it was that transition time between cases and even though this was only the first time between cases I was already frustrated. By the time lunch time came, I wanted to throw someone with a piece of paper. And if it wasn't bad enough, our Captain Jake Allen gave Tim and me a whole stack of reports to go through and to check for anything that might have been missed just to make sure the case was ready to go to trial.

After reading another report and finding that nothing was out of place I closed the file and threw it on my desk with a sigh.

"What did that poor file do to you?" Tim questioned.

"He can't read himself, so it is more of case of what he can't do," I said frustrated as I dragged my hands through my hair.

"Looks like I just came in the nick of time," I heard Jaydan's voice immediately causing me to look up. Jaydan was standing near the door with a brown paper bag and three coffees.

"Jaydan! What are you doing here?" I asked as I stand up to greet him.

"Apparently I'm here to rescue my frustrated girlfriend and her partner with coffee and doughnuts. I had a meeting nearby and I thought that I dropped by," he said as he gave Tim his coffee and doughnut.

"Well if you're going to bring coffee and doughnuts you can rescue us everyday," Tim said eagerly as he dug into his coffee and doughnut.

"This is a very welcome surprise and you can definitely do it again," I said as I took a sip of my coffee. Just what I needed to refresh my mind.

Jaydan was about to say something when his phone rings.

"Hello?" He said as he gave me an apologetic smile.

"Yes...I know...at five o'clock?...can't they move it to another time slots, these meetings tend to take 2 hours and I have dinner plans...not?...of course he has a business trip and that is his only time slot...fine set the meeting I'll make arrangements with my dinner plans...okay see you soon," Jaydan quickly hangs up before he looks at me.

"Change of plans?" I asked. With the line of work he was in, I was used to plans changing.

"Yes, I'm sorry. I need to meet this associate and the only time he can fit in is this afternoon at 5 o'clock. Will it be okay if you went to my parents tonight on your own, then I will join you when I'm done with the meeting?" He asked.

"Yes, that will be no problem at all, but you need to tell your mom," I said.

"Ugh, she's going to kill me," he said as he groaned.

"I'm sure she'll understand, meanwhile we will eat the food so long," I said with a mischievous grin.

"Just save some for me okay?"

"I'll try my best."

"You better or else-" Jaydan was interrupted by his phone. Again.

"Michael?" He quickly answered after sending me another apologetic look.

"Yes...I'm on my way...see you now," Jaydan said.

"So I guess you need to go?" I said.

"Unfortunately, but I will see you tonight. Hopefully the meeting doesn't last long. See you tonight, Vic," he said as he placed a kiss on my cheek.

"Bye Tim," Jaydan greeted before he left with a hurry, like he does the most of the time.

"What a busy guy," Tim noted.

"Tell me about it, at least he brought coffee," I said as I finished my coffee and doughnut, which was delicious might I add. Jaydan knew me to well. Once my doughnut was finished I started on the next stack of paper work.

I was halfway through my second stack when my phone rang. One look at my caller ID informed me it was Amelia.

"Hello?" I answered quickly.

"Hi Victoria dear, please tell me you are still coming for dinner?" She asked.

"Of course, didn't Jaydan tell you?" I asked.

"He did, but he was in a hurry, like always, and before I could ask him he already hung up. So is 6 o'clock fine or would you prefer we make it 7o'clock?" She asked and I looked at my watch to see that it was already half past 4.

"6' o'clock works for me, should I bring anything with?" I asked.

"No dear, all is taken care of you just need to bring yourself." She said.

I thank her once again for the invite before I bid her goodbye.

I hurry to finish the last of my paperwork so that could be on time for my dinner plans with Amelia and Jordon.

Once the clock struck 5 o'clock I packed up my things ready to leave for the day. I quickly bid my father and the captain goodbye before Tim and I left together.

We parted ways outside the precinct and bade each other goodbye. I climbed in my car before I drove home to get a change of clothes.

When I opened the door to my apartment I found another yellow piece of paper.

Did he ask the question yet?

Did who ask what question? And how did my stalker know this person, whoever he is, wanted to ask me a question?

It seemed that my stalker knew more about what was happening in my life than I did and that scared me a lot.

Any ideas on who the stalker could possibly be?
