Chapter 17

Victoria's POV

I was looking through Jaydan's things in his office. His father left his office just the way it was. No one had the heart to  change anything. When Jordon called  me to sign some papers I found it  strange that Jordon asked me to come to Jaydan's office, but I haven't stepped a foot in it in two months time. After the papers were signed Jordon left me alone.

The last two months were rough. I fell in a routine fast and luckily I had friends and family to support me. Even Alec and I were spending more and more time together. He was very supportive and considerate and gave me a shoulder to cry on.

Every thing in this office reminded me of him. His smiles, laughter...everything about him. This caused a lump in my throat. A single tear escaped from my eye. You would think after two months that I would be better, but I wasn't.

The ache in my chest is still there. I miss him every single day. I was still looking around his desk when my eye caught something. It was a letter. But not any letter. One of the letters the stalker left me...

This meant that Jaydan somehow found out about the stalker. And knowing him he probably found a way to get to the stalker. Was that what cost him his life? Was the stalker the one who was responsible for his accident? Jaydan maybe got to close and the the stalker decided to draw the line.

My thoughts were reeling when my eyes landed on the picture of us against the wall. It caught my eye because it was skew and I knew Jaydan would've placed the picture in its proper place. I stood up and fixed the picture but then a felt something at the back of the frame. I turned the frame around and saw that it was nothing more than a memory stick taped to the back of the photo.

I quickly plugged it into the computer and when it opened there was only one video. I played the video and what I saw shocked me to the core. I was in the warehouse where the White Hawk kept me. The White Hawk left and I tried to get out of my bindings. I looked up and I knew that was when the Shadow entered the room. He rushed into the picture and quickly untied me before pulling me into a hug. My eyes grew wide and I knew that it was the White Hawk I saw at that moment. I pushed the Shadow out of the way. The Shadow pulled out a gun and shot before he turned towards me and placed his hands on my wound. I said something but I couldn't here because there was no sound. The Shadow took off his mask, luckily his back was towards the camera so you couldn't see who he was. But my eye caught someone else...

In the back of the room, behind a stack of crates was another person watching. And that person shocked me the most. That person was the one and only Alec Williams and he was the only other person who knew about Jaydan's secret identity.

I quickly unplugged the memory stick before I shut Jaydan's computer down. I placed the stick back where I found it for safekeeping before I took my phone and keys. Just as I opened Jaydan's door Alec was standing with his fist raised, ready to knock.

"Alec!" I said in surprise.

"Vic?! Here you are, the lady at the front desk said you might be here," he said with a smile. My guard was raised. This man could be my stalker, the one who ruined my life and the one who took the man I loved away from me.

"How did you know I was here in this building?" I asked.

"Well you weren't in your apartment or at the station and you didn't answer your phone so I thought you might be visiting old memories," he said with a concerned look.

Or you are stalking me and know exactly where I am! I wanted to say but I thought better of it, "Well I was. Now why were you looking for me?"

"Well, I was wondering if you wanted to have some coffee? We can go to Starbucks?" He suggested. I needed evidence that he was the stalker and going out for coffee wasn't going to prove it. I needed to follow him.

"You know what, how about we go out for dinner?" I asked.

"Tonight?" He asked.

"Yes, I will just go wrap a few things up and get dressed and then I will meet you at the restaurant, how about that new Italian place on 25th?" I said.

"Sounds perfect, I will meet you there at 8?" He asked. And I nodded my head. Looking down at my watch I saw that it was 5o'clock.

"Sounds great. Now if you will excuse me I have paperwork to finish at the station," I told him. He gave me a quick kiss on my cheek.

"Enjoy and see you then," he said with a wink before he turned around. I wish I could wipe off his kiss from my cheek, but for now I just need to grin and bare it. I waited until he was in the elevator before I rushed down the stairs.

Luckily I was down the stairs before the elevator and I watched how he exited the elevator. I was out of eyesight and he didn't notice me watching him. He exited the building and went to his car across the street. There was a vacant taxi and I quickly climbed inside.

I pulled out my badge and showed it to the taxi driver, "Detective Wills, I need you to follow that man."

The man nodded and he started to follow Alec at a distance. Now I could get answers.

After an hour of riding around to different stores and places, I wanted to pull the cab over, but then I saw Alec turning towards an empty street and I asked the taxi driver to follow at a safe distance. If Alec really was the stalker, he wasn't very good at watching his back. I saw Alec driving into a drive way of a light blue painted house and ordered the taxi driver to stop a block away. I paid him what I owed and he sped off while I went closer to the house. There was a few kids playing off in the distance as I crept closer to the house.

I know it was stupid coming without backup so I quickly called my partner.

"Hello?" He answered on the second ring.

"Tim I am at  23 Clare Street, and I need backup. I think I found some information about Jaydan's death. I need you to get here as soon as possible. And no sirens." I whispered.

He knew better than to question me and agreed to my terms before I hung up.

I walked to the back of the house and saw that it was quiet and no-one was there.

I pulled out my gun before I quietly opened the door. I stepped inside before closing the door behind me as quietly as I can.

"Oh Jaydan! Are you hungry?" I heard Alec say to the room to the left and I quickly stepped behind the wall as I watched him climb the stairs. Jaydan? Was Jaydan here? Was he alive? My heart started to race. It couldn't be, but then I heard a muffled voice and I knew there was definitely someone here.

I quickly climbed the stairs with my gun raised. Mindful of the creaks. When I got to the top, there were three rooms and I followed the sound of the voices. What I saw made my heart speed more. Jaydan was alive and tied to a chair with a cloth in his mouth. I stepped behind the door and watched through the small crack. It took every ounce of my being not to race inside and free Jaydan. But I didn't know what Alec was capable of.

"What was that? I couldn't hear you," Alec said before he took the cloth out of Jaydan's mouth.

"I. Said. Screw. You." Jaydan said through gritted teeth.

"Oh Jay, such a fowl mouth," Alec said and it took everything in me not to shoot him right then and there.

"But I have news for you! Victoria and I are going to have dinner tonight!" Alec said and I regretted agreeing to dinner with him.

"Only because she doesn't know what you're doing!" Jaydan said.

"Might be, but the truth is she believes you to be dead. And now she can go on with her life with me!" Alec said with a chessire smile and I wanted to gag.

"Why Alec, why are you doing this to Victoria? You say you love her but you take the person she loves away from her and make her believe he is dead? How does that show you love her?" Jaydan asked.

CRACK!

Alec punches him, in the face. A bruise was definitely going to form there.

"Don't question my love for her! I loved her long before you showed up and ruined everything! I was building myself up. Trying to get money so that I could spoil her and show her how much I cared." Alec explained.

"Yeah, building yourself up as drugdealer is definetely a way to woo a police detective." Alec was a drugdealer? That would explain all the money he has and the car he drives. That would explain a lot of things.

CRACK!

Another punch to the face.

"Oh so you're mister perfect? Does she even know about your past? Why you disappeared for two years? How you killed a person? Beaten them to death?" Alec said  and my heart stopped. Jaydan killed someone? Please tell me this is lies, I beg silently.

"That was in the past and I paid for my crimes!" Jaydan spat.

"Yes, you paid by becoming the CEO of Stewart industries instead of a six by eight cell," Alec taunted.

"I was a kid!"

"Doesn't make it better," Alec said.

Alec's cellphone buzzed and he pulled it out quickly, "Hello?"

He gave Jaydan a look before pressing the phone against his shoulder.

"Don't go anywhere. I still have plans for you." Alec said with a large smile before he walks to the door. I quickly enter the room next door and close the door before I hear the other door being opened and shut closed. I listen for Alec's footsteps as it becomes fainter down the stairs.

I open the door a inch making sure the coast is clear before I enter the room Jaydan is in. I close the door behind me as I hear Jaydan's voice.

"Vic?" I turn around to face him.

"Jay," I said with a sigh of relief. He was alive. After two months of endless crying and mourning and trying to go on with my life, Jay was here. Alive and well, except for the bruises that was now forming on his face. I couldn't stop the tears that started to rush down my face. Everything around me was forgotten as I rushed to him as quiet as possible before hugging him.

"I thought you were dead!" I choked out softly.

"I know, Alec told me. And I almost was, but he had different plans." I wanted to say something but I heard footsteps and I quickly rushed to the built in closet across the room. The door closed behind me before Alec entered the room.

"Well Jaydan, this was not how I planned it, but things happen and you must improvise." Alec said, I could see him pull out a gun from the slit in the door.

"I'm going to shoot you and leave you here to bleed out. And then when your almost dead I will return from my date with Victoria and we can spend your final moments on earth talking about the wonderful person she is," he said as he held up the gun, ready to pull the trigger. I couldn't allow Jaydan to get hurt so I got out of my hiding place, gun drawn.

"Hands up, Alec," I said.

He was shocked and turned around to face me.

"Victoria? What are you doing here? How did you find this place?" He asked bewildered. He dropped the gun in defeat.

"For someone who has been following others, you really don't watch your back. I saw the video of you in the warehouse. You were the only other person who knew about Jaydan's secret identity. And I'm a detective so I could put the pieces together. Your plan failed." And just at that moment my partner Tim entered the room and Alec was attacked to the ground and arrested while I placed my gun in its holster and rushed towards Jaydan.

I untied him as quickly as I could and once he was free I pulled him into a death gripping hug and then I cried. Cried for the betrayal, for the love I almost lost and for the pain I had been feeling for the last 2 months. I finally let out all my built up emotions.

So did you expect that Jaydan is still alive? And Alec was the stalker!

So many revelations. I hope you enjoyed it!
