Chapter 11
Victoria's POV
The next morning I felt a bit refreshed knowing that Jaydan was aware about my feelings. Tim was right, sharing my feelings with Jaydan helped me feel a lot better.
I took a deep breath before I started to get ready for the day. When I stepped out of the shower I heard my phone ring and I knew immediately who it was.
"Morning, Jay," I answered quickly.
"Morning love, how are you feeling?" He asked with concern clear in his voice.
"Better, so are we still meeting at one?" I asked, remembering just now that he said he had something to show me that might cheer me up.
"Yes, I will come pick you up," he said.
"Okay, see you then, love you."
"Love you too," he said before I ended the call.
Later while I was on my way to work I thought about my case, how everything was just to clean for my liking. There were no signs of breaking and entering and it had to be someone he trusted and the door was locked so whoever killed locked the door or had access to a key.
When I arrived at my desk Tim was already sorting through some of the threatening notes.
"Anything usable?" I asked.
"None, they are mostly about Mr Green causing them pain and suffering or stealing money. But the rest, which is five in total, is about someone telling him that he knows what he did and threatening him to come clean or the person will go to the police himself," Tim explained.
"Well that fits with what my mom told me about him wanting to meet her and ask for advice," I said as I looked at a few of the letters.
"And maybe whoever this person was just decided that he didn't want to wait around for him anymore and took the law in his own hands," Tim theorised.
"Sounds plausible. Now we only need to find the person involved in this and the one that sent the threatening letters," I said.
"That would've been a great lead, but unfortunately there was no fingerprints," Tim said. Of course solving a case is never easy.
"Oh, before I forget, Mr Samuels brought the business's financial records," Tim said.
"I will then begin to look through that," I said.
I spent the whole morning looking at the financial records of the business and Mr Green's personal financial records. The business records didn't have anything out of the ordinary but Mr Green had a monthly payment he made to a Dr Blane. I did some research on the doctor and wrote done his address and number. Dr Blane was a marriage counsellor and he might be able to shed some light on the relationship between Mr and Mrs Green.
My table was littered with pages and notes and just looking at everything made me feel tired already.
"Are you ready for a break?" I turned my head to see Jaydan approaching me and when I looked at my watch I saw that it was already one o'clock. Time flies when a person is busy.
"Yes I am," I said a quick goodbye to Tim who was also deep in work.
"It looks like this case is really keeping you guys busy," Jaydan said as we drove to the surprise he had for me.
"Very busy, and there aren't really many clues and there are a lot of dead ends, like the untraceable threatening letters. But I did discover that they were seeing a marriage counsellor."
"You think it was the wife? Before you answer that put this on," he said as he gave me a blindfold.
"It depends on what the marriage councillor has to say. A blindfold again? Are you trying to take me down a trip to memory lane?" I asked as I quickly placed the blindfold on. A blindfold which held lots of memories.
"Something like that. Can you see anything?" Jay asked.
"Nope."
"Good," he took a turn and then he announced that we arrived at our destination.
He parked the car before he climbed out and came to my side to help me out. He led me to who knows where and told me where to lift my legs and where to go. I heard a door being opened and Jaydan led me inside.
"Okay take it off," he said.
A gasp escaped my lips as I took in my surroundings. We were standing in a beautiful empty house.
"Is this ours?" I asked as I turned around to look at the place.
"Yes, do you like it? I knew how stressed you are and I thought house hunting would just pile on so I did some house hunting on my own. I found this place and I thought it was perfect," he explained.
"I love it!" I said.
"Are you sure because we can always look around some more-"
"Jay, I love this house already. Thank you for doing this," I said. We were standing in the entry way that had an open plan kitchen, dining room and lounge. Jay took me on a tour of the rest of the place.
Past the kitchen down the hall was a bathroom. On the other side was a room and Jay told me he thought it would make a nice office for the both of us.
Next to the bathroom was a bedroom. And at the end of the hall was the master bedroom with an ensuite bathroom. This house was perfect. The master bedroom even had a bay window and I can imagine myself curling up with a nice book.
"This is amazing!" I said before I attacked Jaydan with a hug.
"I'm just glad you love it," he replied.
This was where we were going to make hundreds of memories and I couldn't wait.
Unfortunately our happy moment was ruined by my ringing phone. Always something that ruins these moments with Jay.
"Hello," I quickly answered.
"Sorry to disturb, Vici. But they found the gun. And you would never guess who it belonged to," Tim said.
"I don't have a clue," I said honestly.
"The one and only Mr Samuels. We are bringing him in for questioning as we speak," he said.
"I'm on my way," I said quickly before I ended the call.
"Duty calls?" Jaydan asked and I nodded with a grim look. Couldn't they have found the gun an hour later.
"Well then lets get you back," he said before we headed to his car.
Once I arrived back at the police station Tim led me to the interrogation room where the one and only Mr Samuels was waiting for us. He looked calm and collected when we entered the room.
"So Mr Samuels, we found your gun," Tim said as he brought the foto that was taken of the gun that was found.
"The same gun that was used to kill Mr Green," I said as I sat down.
"So he was killed with the gun that was supposed to protect him," Mr Samuels said.
"What do you mean?" Tim asked.
"Five months ago Nate changed, he became more paranoid and antsy. He told me his life was in danger. He asked if he could borrow my gun for his protection. He didn't want Alice to find out so I gave him my gun." Mr Samuels explained without blinking.
"And why didn't you tell us this before?" Tim asked.
"I didn't know my gun was involved. I didn't even know where he kept it," he said.
"Do you know why his behaviour changed?" I asked.
"No clue, not at all. I tried to get him to tell me, but he said it was for the best if no one knew."
"He never mentioned anything?" Tim asked again.
"No. I don't understand why he didn't want to tell me about what was going on. All I know was that he was scared out of his mind. That is all. Nothing more," Mr Samuels insisted and I believed him. He didn't seem nervous.
"Is there anything else we should know of?" I asked.
Mr Samuels opened his mouth to say something, but then he closed it.
"No, there is nothing more." He said.
"Then you are free to go, just don't leave town," Tim told him.
Once he left, Tim turned towards me.
"Do you believe him?" He asked.
"I do. He seemed to be telling the truth. I believe the key to this case is the reason behind Mr Green's paranoia. Something happened five months ago." I said.
"Did you find something in his financials?" He asked.
"The only thing that changed in his financials five months ago, was a monthly payment to a Dr Blane, a marriage counsellor," I told him.
"So we have to talk to the wife and this Dr Blane, maybe they can shed some light." Tim said and I agreed. We can only hope to find something worth our while that will explain Mr Green's strange behaviour.
