Emerson

*THIS WILL BE IN TAMARA'S POV COURTESY OF glitterbutt11*

She couldn't believe they brought Emerson here! Emerson was strong at times, but she wasn't ready for this. Especially after her brother's death, and how she could barely handle her parents---breath Tamara.

Emerson can handle herself, she's strong enough now. This was all your idea, remember? She thought to herself, sitting down and running a hand through her short, choppy hair. It would be great seeing her best friend again.

How she missed Emerson's laugh.

"Tamara!" A voice barked.

Immediately, the girl stood up. Her back straight, and her sea green eyes dulled.

"Training room, now! You and Cal are in charge of the newest recruit!" Fiorenza demanded. The taller girl's firey brown eyes shone with amusement as it looked Tamara up and down. Her hair had dark coal like roots and flicked out orange at the bottom.

Tamara rolled her eyes, "Since when were you in charge?"

"Since today," the girl smirked, turning on her heel, and tossed her wavy hair over her shoulder. "Come on, don't want to be late to see your girlfriend!"

"She's not my girlfriend! We're just friends, not all of us are into girl's here," Tamara shouted in her defense, but to no avail.

Fiorenza just laughed with a snarky, "Um hm."

Tamara glared at where Fiorenza exited from. Who does she think she is? Barging in here, spewing out orders, then insulting her? Just wait until she knocks Fiorenza down a few pegs!

~~~
"Tamara!" She heard a familiar voice shout.
Tamara wasn't able to turn around fast enough before she was knocked off her feet.
"You won't believe what just happened to me!" Emerson rushed out, helping her to her feet.
"Good to see you too," Tamara laughed, warmth swelling in her chest at the sight of Emerson's smile.
"Yeah, sorry about that! Anyway, turns out I can do really weird things! Like I can destroy stuff!" Emerson grabbed Tamara's hand and dragged her over to a table.
"Watch! Are you ready? You watching? You won't believe it!" She excitedly jumped up and down. Then tried to calm herself down, but she couldn't stop smiling.
"I'm watching," Tamara spoke, her smile growing wider. She really had missed Emmey.
"Okay," Emerson smiled, and opened her fist. Then she slowly curled her fingers, her brows drawing together in concentration. Ever so slowly the table started to curl into itself like it was a crumpled piece of paper.
"Wow," Tamara breathed out in awe.
"I know right? So cool!" Emerson smiled mischievously.
Then Cal sauntered over boredly, "She's been raving about it nonstop!"
Tamara sent him a glare, "Oh shut up! You're just jealous cause your powers aren't as strong!"
Cal shot her a look, "It takes time to strengthen---"
"All of your abilities, yeah yeah. You've been putting up that excuse for years!" Tamara dismissed the idea, crossing her arms over her chest.
Emerson's jaw dropped, "Wait? He has more than one power?"
"Well yeah--" Cal started, but then Tamara interrupted him.
"They aren't really super powers. They're more like abilities. Our genes are mixed up, remember?" Tamara explained.
"Wait, what can you do?" Emerson asked excitedly.
Tamara felt her cheeks heat up in embarrassment, "Well, I can't do much really. It's not that cool--"
"Oh please! Tamara's just being humble. You should see her train," Fiorenza said taking a bite of her red apple. She was leaning against a railing where people could watch other's train. Before she sashayed over, she smacked a button on a nearby wall.
The whining of machines turning filled the silence as Fiorenza's staccato sounding heeled boots connected with the floor.
"I don't believe we've met. I'm Fiorenza, but some people call me Renz, Renza, or Fior--"
"Or--" Cal mumbled a colorful word under his breath.
Fiorenza shot him a sharp glare, "I'd watch what I'd say if I were you, I've been promoted to Commander."
By that time the machine's stopped and the dome opened up to reveal the sky.
"Go on Tammy, show 'em how it's done," Fiorenza ushered, a smirk on her fire red lips. Her eyes were practically on fire with amusement.
"My name's Tamara," she said curtly shooting her a you're-dead-to-me glare.
But it softened when Emerson said, "You got this!"
Taking off her leather jacket, she rolled her neck and spine. Relishing in the crack of her joints, she breathed in the fresh air flooding her veins. She concentrated on the feeling of the soil, the wet grass, the snow.
And then she imagined herself slowly freezing, and she turned around when she heard Emerson's sharp intake of breath.
"Whoa," Emerson stared in awe.
Tamara saw in one of the training mirrors that her whole body had turned to soled ice. It was an iridescent, transparent blue.
She felt herself smirk, and she felt herself melt quickly into a liquid faster than you could snap your fingers. She ended up on the floor, and then she stretched herself. Feeling the sun's rays, she felt herself dissolve.
Then she appeared on top of the clouds. Her body slowly came back, but not completely. She was transparent, and she ran on the clouds as if it was the ground. Out of breath, she let herself turn into a flake of snow and sailed to the ground.
Back inside the dome, she heard people start clapping.
"Told ya she was good," Fiorenza smirked, her eyes a glow.
"Oh my gosh! You didn't tell me you could do that!" Emerson smiled, giving Tamara a congratulatory hug.
"I found out a few weeks ago actually. I didn't know I could do quiet all that either," She beamed, breathless.
"What can you do," Emerson asked, now turning her attention to Cal.
Tamara felt a sinking feeling grow into her stomach, and she could feel Fiorenza's calculating eyes analyzing her.
So, stomaching the uneasiness, Tamara smiled and acted like everything was fine.
"Nothing really exciting, but you should be training," he muttered gruffly.
"Come on, a little demonstration won't hurt. I won't tell," Fiorenza said, raising an eyebrow at Cal.
His blue eyes glowered.
"I said no, Emerson needs to be training," he seethed.
"Studying other's techniques is as important as strengthening your own," Fiorenza advised.
"I know how to do my job, but can you do yours? Tamara and I are here to make sure she's ready. She will be, but not if you waste our time with stupid demonstrations that have nothing to do with her own abilities!" Cal challenged.
Fiorenza eyed him, "Callumn, you and I both know why you're so strongly against an innocent demonstration. But, I'll let you salvage your pride. You did a good job today, Tamara. I'll make sure to leave a good word on your improvements. As for you, Mr. Harker, work on that attitude while you hit the showers. Tomorrow there better be some improvements, your telepathy is getting weaker if possible."
Cal sent her a spine-shivering glare. As he stormed out of the training room, he made sure to knock into a few shoulders.
"That's enough for today, you ladies can head out," Fiorenza ordered, weaving her way through the crowd with an air of authority.
"She's something else," Emerson teased.
"Yeah, I guess," Tamara muttered, still feeling sick.
"She seems cool, though. What'd she mean about Cal though? Is his real name Callumn?" Emerson questioned.
"Yeah, Callumn Beckett Harker. He doesn't talk about it much, but something happened with his family when he was younger. They died somehow and he saw it happen. Doesn't talk about it, though there are some rumors speculating the whole thing," she shrugged.
"That's terrible!" Emerson gushed, rubbing her wrist.
Tamara instinctively grabbed Emerson's wrist.
"You got a Tat?" Tamara's eyed widened.
"What? No! I was branded by some stranger a few weeks ago," Emerson shrugged.
Tamara just blinked, and her jaw fell open.
"Did I not tell you?" Emerson laughed.
"No," Tamara laughed shaking her head in disbelief. "We have a lot to talk about!"
"Your telling me," Emerson smiled.
Tamara smiled, and she felt the sickening feeling slowly fade away as if it was just a distant memory. And she realized how thankful she was that Emerson was here.
Everything would be okay.
