POV Jack

Keep the hospital neat and clean – that's my job. On the other hand it is quite an easy job but then again, if there's even a tiny little spill of soda on the floor it will be noticed right away thanks to the white floors and walls. Plus as a janitor I am responsible of keeping the place running and in order – if there was a flickering light I should change it or a broken toilet, err, I should fix it.

So my tool belt is my companion in this war against broken things, my mop is my best friend and the brush is well – unnecessary evil. Still, I enjoy this since I can listen to music while I clean but the urge to talk to the people around me is quite huge. The sad faces of people are the worst part in this job since in hospitals some people died and mourning people were left and some patients seemed miserable. Sometimes I wish that I could do something more than move this mop.

"Riku, they will just remove your tonsils and you'll get a lot of ice cream," some guy with brown spiky hair exclaimed and patted his friends shoulder. Riku had similar haircolor like I did and it was long.

"But I hate surgeries," Riku hissed and tried to turn around at the doorway.

The shorter guy stopped him and continued taking Riku towards the counter. I placed the mop back inside the bucket and hang it onto my cleaning trolley. I had just mopped some puke off from the floor after some guy who was feeling bad had arrived to the ER. After that I put up a yellow –Caution: Slippery! – sign on the floor.

The two guys sat into the waiting room nearby which I noticed when I was taking my trolley back to the janitor's closet. I still had some things to finish on my to do list which the nurses had made before I could call it for today.

"Riku, hey... Try to think of something else," the other guy kept comforting the other one who was pale.

"Uh... I really don't know if I can—" Riku exclaimed and then he looked at me directly.

"Hey! Nice hair!" He suddenly cheered and I nod my head.

"Thanks," I reply and continue my way.

"Wait! Come to chat for a bit before he makes a run for it," the brown haired guy cheered.

"Alright, I guess that I can spare some time," I hummed and took even the other ear plug from my ear and approached them.

Riku patted the seat next to him and I sat there, lifting my other leg over another.

"So which hair dye do you use? It looks so authentic," Riku said and stared at my hair.

"Oh--," I exclaimed and ruffled up my hair, "—it is naturally like this." I flashed a smile to him and he frowned a bit.

"Wow, no way! It takes me few bottles to get this shade of silver white," Riku hummed and made me laugh a bit.

"Yeah so you're waiting your turn?" I questioned while I leaned back. This beats fixing that flooding toilet right now.

"Mmh... Sora brought me here... they will take my tonsils out in surgery," Riku sighed.

"But then you'll have much healthier throat," Sora pointed out and got glared by frightened looking Riku.

"I'm sure that the doctors here know what they're doing most of the time," I told to Riku as I took a bag of candies from my pocket. I offered them some mint candies which they took.

"What if something goes wrong?" Riku mumbled while sucking the hard mint candy inside his mouth.

"You are in a hospital, it's the best place to be if something goes wrong," I laughed as I got up.

"Heeey, where are you going? You seem like a cool guy.. maybe you could hang out with me and Sora plus Kairi. Right Sora?" Riku grinned and took his cellphone out.

"What's your number? Oh...and your name--," Riku hummed and glanced at my name tag, "—Jack Frost."

"Well—" I exhaled and rubbed my neck. I should really be working now.

"Sora! Convince him to give his number... " Riku whined. They were around my age but still I didn't feel like it would be a cool idea.

"Sora?" Riku called again and looked at his pal. Then I glance at Sora too.

"I...D-don't feel good," Sora exhaled.

"Crap," I gulped when Sora had gone pale and was breathing unsteadily.

"Riku –" A nurse came to call the white haired guy to his appointment and suddenly Sora fell down from his chair.

Sora was grasping to his shirt and squeezing his chest. Something was clearly wrong and then he just passed out.

"Cardiac arrest--," I mumbled and glanced at the nurse.

"WE NEED A DOCTOR!" I yelled and knelt next to Sora. His friend was staring at him in shock and misbelieve.

The nurse glanced at me, "Can you blow air as I press?"

I nod to him and we started giving CPR to the young man. We kept going and I gave air to Sora when the nurse gave me a mark. Quite soon more nurses came and they changed to giving electric shocks and air from bag valve mask to Sora.

Then I glance at the doctor who had come there, my head is a bit dizzy thanks to the CPR. The woman with platinum blonde hair shouts, "Clear." And then she striked Sora's chest with electric shock from defibrillator.

Then she checked Sora's vitals again and I feel how Riku takes my hand. He is shaking right next to me and I rub my neck anxiously.

"Ah, he is back with us," the doctor woman sighed from relief. She and the nurses lifted Sora on one hospital bed.

"Take him to surveillance and keep an eye on him. I will come to check him in a bit," the doctor woman exclaimed and turned around.

It was that doctor from earlier, with blue eyes which could swallow you in.

"Does anyone know what happened or who that young boy was?" The doctor hummed and I lifted my hand up with a sly smile forming on my face.

"You are the janitor... why would you know the patients," the doctor mumbled while getting closer.

"But dr. Redel, I know someone who knows him," I replied and nodded towards Riku.

"C-can I go to Sora," Riku gulped and shook. I stuffed another mint to his mouth.

"Relax... hospitals are the best places to become sick," I winked my eye to Riku who was anxiously chewing the mint candy.

"That's an absurd claim Mr Frost. Could you fill up a document for your friend?" Dr. Redel asked from Riku gently.

"Not really, he would've been in far greater danger outside the hospital. Am I right?" I frowned and she stared at me back. A nurse had taken Riku to fill up some forms before he would go to see how Sora was doing.

"Don't you have work to do like everyone else does?" She sighed and crossed her arms.

"Yeah, well same goes to you," I smirked and went to my loyal carriage where my mops and brushes were hanging. I began to go towards the janitor's closet again where I would find some plumping equipment .

She passed me on the corridor and I saw her taking an angry looking glance at me. She was hilarious when she was mad.

"Okay, next stop guys bathroom," I hummed as I picked up the things I needed from janitors closet.

In the bathroom in the first floor I was greeted by the out of order sign in one of toilet booths. Reluctantly I opened it up but gladly there wasn't such unpleasant surprise as I was worried about.

"Ah, the flush button is out of order," I mumbled while I began to examine the toilet seat.

I place my tool box to ground and take off the cover from the water supply of the toilet seat to see what was jamming the flush button.

"Finally that toilet is being taken care of... though guys don't need toilet booths as much as women it is sometimes a bit annoying when there's one out of order," I heard someone laughing behind me.

I look over my shoulder. There's the doctor from the first day when I began working here.

"Oh, hello Dr Haddock," I greeted him as I try to find the right tool so I could tighten up a screw.

"Jack! Just call me Hiccup," he grinned and ruffled his overgrown brown hair.

"Okay Hiccup," I grinned and began to focus on fixing up the toilet seat finally.

"So how have you liked working in St. Burgess?" Hiccup hummed and I heard the sound of a zipper. He was taking a leak in one of the porcelain 'sinks' (A/N: I dunno what you call them???) for guys.

I glance over my shoulder and I see how Hiccup finishes his stuff and goes to wash his hands.

"Well everyone's... almost everyone's been quite cool," I hummed and then I tried the flush button. Now it worked like the way it should. I began gathering my tools back to box.

"Wait, have you run to trouble?" Hiccup questioned.

I scratched my neck and lifted up the metal tool box as I stood up.

"Not exactly but that doctor, Redel, she seems a bit uptight," I replied and went closer to Hiccup.

Hiccup blinked and his green eyes widened from surprise. "You mean Elsa? Well she has strong sense of duty after all. She is nice when you get to know her – though it isn't easy because she's always working extra hours. Maybe she's exhausted because she works too much... perhaps I should call to director Dr. Burgess about it so they could help her--," Hiccup wondered.

I shook my head quickly, "N-no. That's quite fine, no need to contact anyone. I guess I need to get to know her then."

Hiccup smiled slyly, "Alright. So have time to grab something to eat? I could use company since I have a break and those sandwiches in the stall outside have been on my mind the whole day."

I grinned and nodded, "Sure. My shift is ending anyway and I don't mind to eat something before going home."

"That's a deal then," Hiccup smiled and we headed out from the toilets. He was about the same height with me, a really friendly and kind hearted orthopedic. He was one of the first people to talk to me.

My phone rang and I picked it up. We had dropped my toolbox back to the janitor's closet on the way.

"Hey babe," I replied to the phone. Hiccup went ahead from the sliding doors towards the sandwich stall.

"Yeah, I'll be home soon... I'll eat something first with a friend -- no you don't know him but he is a doctor in my workplace..mmhm... sure I'll get you something on the way home," I spoke and then hung up.

Hiccup was already ordering his warm sandwich from a cheerful looking girl.

"Anna, I would really love to have a tuna sandwich today and I'll pay whatever Jack is having since he had a bit of a hard day," Hiccup laughed.

"Ah, you don't need to ," I exclaimed but the way he looked at me convinced me to drop it. "Fine... A chicken sandwich with tomato, salad, cucumber, paprika, chili cheese and hot sauce plus some oil and salt," I sighed.

Suddenly the girl behind the counter squealed, "Kristoooff! Did you hear!"

"Did I say something wrong?" I gulped and stared at the girl.

"Nope, you just ordered the exactly same sandwich which my big sister always does," Anna laughed, "—are you single?"

"Eh," I exhaled and glanced at Hiccup.

"Sorry, my wife gets excited and practically makes her sister marry every handsome guy who comes along and orders the same sandwich," Kristoff laughed and gave me and Hiccup sandwiches. We took some sodas too.

"Haha, so that happens often?" I laughed anxiously and smiled.

"But she will miss life if she doesn't find someone," Anna whined while taking payment from Hiccup.

"Well I am taken," I smiled faintly and took a ring from my front pocket and put it to my ring finger.

"Wow, I didn't know that you're engaged," Hiccup gasped and stared at the ring.

"Well I can't use it while I work. It is a work hazard," I told him and then we thanked the couple who were holding the sandwich stall.

"Oh, I kind of understand since I couldn't wear one either," Hiccup hummed.

"Are you engaged too?" I asked and we sat on a bench outside the hospital. The weather was nice and the sun was shining brightly.

"N-no... not yet... I haven't dared to ask yet," Hiccup gulped.

Then I grinned, "I could help you out with how to propose if you need any help. It would be fun!"

Hiccup nodded, "Then I know who to talk to when that time comes. So...who's the lucky woman?"

I had just taken a bite from my sandwich as I glance at Hiccup. Slowly I munched the piece of bread and then laughed. "You really want to know?" I questioned.

It started to feel like I had made a friend at my new work place. It was always great to meet new people and get along.
