Backstory: Rusty was a playful, energetic Pokémon, living with his family on Route 202. Then, one day, as he was racing his friends, he bumped into a Houndoom. The Houndoom, enraged at Rusty's carelessness, held the Shinx down and spit hot fire on his front right leg. Thanks to the Houndoom, Rusty's leg was permanently burnt, and he was abandoned by everyone.

Path 1: Jasmine's Story and RPs with Jasmine
He wandered the routes for a year or so, before being attacked by a group of Starly. He was left to die, but at that time, Jasmine happened by, hearing his cry for help and taking care of him, making him Jasmine's first Pokémon. After a while, Jasmine got Rusty's burn removed, and he was able to run again.

Path 2: RPs without Jasmine
After Rusty was abandoned, he was taken by a poacher and spirited away to Kalos. As the poacher was planning what to do with him, Rusty was found by Gran, who rescued him and the other Pokémon from the poacher. Rusty then became best friends with Gran, and later Tel. As Rusty evolved, his burn got smaller, and by the time he was a Luxray, it failed to inhibit him in the slightest.
