Inkopolis was the home of turf wars, ranked battles, and trending brands. The city was home to thousands of sea creatures such as Inklings, Jellyfish, Shrimp, and Octolings. Inkopolis was rather large, for it held many of the finest places; Mahi-Mahi Resort, for example, is a beautiful vacation spot— a  tourist trap as some might call it — for everyone to bask in the sun or go swim in the water. Camp Triggerfish is where those between the ages of five to eighteen attend during the summer season; however, anyone older than fourteen is able to participate in turf wars. Blackbelly Skatepark, where all of the wars and battles take place and the jellyfish spectate with anticipation as Judd watches intensely on which team will win. The game was in the rotation to be broadcasted around the Square. Who would win: the Good Greens or the Villainous Violets? That was the question the spectating jellyfish wondered as they sat on the edges of their seat.

One squid, in particular, was wiping the map clean of the opposing team's ink. His eyes were filled with a scorching determination as he coated the turf green. Suddenly, he was forced to stop when an opposing member appeared from the violet ink with a Splatling in hand. As the green inkling hurriedly moved to make a jump attack, his efforts did not in vain as he landed; the Villainous Violet's ghost went flying up to return to spawn. The Good Green squid couldn't help but cheer for himself in success. Hearing the song for the one minute mark, Now or Never, he felt victorious. Surely the win would go to the good guys. He squid jumped over to a teammate, whose eyes were violet. The ally squid wielded a N'Zap 89, which was a beautiful neon orange color.

"Need some backup?" The roller asked, watching his teammate move swiftly on the field.

"I can handle it," the gunner with the violet eyes answered. "Besides, there is only thirty-five seconds left in the match! It'd be a miracle for those guys to try and ink this turf back from us before time's up!" He looked ahead and saw something he believed to be funny. "Volga," he pointed, "Look! That violet has your exact roller."

"Oof, I hadn't seen one in a while." Volga chuckled.

"Should I?" The gunner asked veggie he dived into the ink to refill the empty canister on his back. "Volga you better make a move now, or you won't be able to-"

"Relax," The roller ordered, "I know what I'm doing!" Volga had a strategy he loved using when the time was scarce. Instead of being a go-getter, he waits for the other team ink up some of the turf; when it strikes fifteen seconds, however, he goes back to coat it with his team's color once again. He left tidbits of the opposing team's ink so they could still make an attempt to compete. It was the nice thing, he thought. He often wondered if he should let the opposing team win for once, but why? They will just lose again.

"Volga!" the gunner called out, " Are you ready, yet?" He filled his ink canister. "Stop wasting time! Are we doing this, or are you going to make us lose?"

Volga swallowed his pride and looked the gunner in his victory seeking eyes. "Let's do this! Normal plan, as usual, right Ghirahim?"

"Duh," they dove into the green ink and swam through. The plan was to try and flank the last members of the opposing team. But little did they know that they were about to encounter some unexpected inklings. Volga leaped from the ink with his roller ready to slam. Oddly, it felt like time remained still when he saw a violet-haired girl with purple eyes start brushing at him, quickly ending his winning reign. While Volga remained in shock, the opposing team immediately took back the turf, destroying his plans.

Ghirahim, too, had lost to a squid who had wielded the same weapon as him, only an upgraded version. His furious ghost went back to respawn, but when he stood back up, the match was well over. He glared at Volga, who was leaning against his roller in grief. He knew very well that the map was being broadcasted live in the entire city. He felt guilty for the rest of his team who worked hard to succeed. However, to him, the attempts were in vain because of his own failed plan. He mumbled and grumbled when he watched the violets cheer in victory and taking silly pictures with their friends.

Only a few minutes they were sent back to the lobby building to get off the platform individually. Once they exited, their "hair" returned to their base color when outside the matches. Volga's hair returned to red, and Ghirahim's hair turned hair turned to an icy blue.

Older squids have their own section to set their gear and change between matches. No one was allowed to touch them when unoccupied by the owner. The sections were two per room, only those being A+ or higher in Rank deserving those spots. It had a section where Sheldon can give out the squids weapon when needing a switch, a small closet of specific clothing the squid wants behind, headgear on the top shelf, shirts and jackets hanging from the rack and the shoes on the bottom. There was a small wooden bench for the squid to put on their shoes or relax between battles. A section was abandoned...one belonging to those named Ganondorf and Nabooru. Neither had return, their weapons missing from the spot they rested formerly on. Their section has been abandoned for about ten years now, neither showing their faces around Inkopolis, some suspecting it was a unannounced move.

"I still can't believe we lost!" Volga whined as he placed his Krak-On Splat Roller back in its spot.

"Oh, shut up about it! You were the one who froze! If you'd have just done your part, we'd have won, so just get over it already." Ghirahim retorted, changing from his basic tee to a salmon colored shirt with a vest. "We would have kept a longer streak if it weren't for your mishap. We had this streak for ten years! You're the one who said it would end eventually." He tilted his head, "Why are you so melancholy?"

"I just wasn't expecting it to be this soon." Volga slipped off his boots to switch into sneakers. The red-headed squid sighed and looked down to his feet. "I expected another month. Am I slipping? Do you think it's my knee?"

Ghirahim rolled his eyes. Volga has been saying that for months. He kept making promises to see the doctor. Ghirahim knew he didn't have the time, but he needed the time to go see someone about it instead of saying he will. Ghirahim was there for him since they were kids, but the knee has been getting worse, to the point Volga had to wear a knee brace all day and in battles.

"I promise I'll take you to see one." Ghirahim said, brushing his hair back with his hand and touching up the black paint around his eyes. "The minute we get enough cash, we will go see one okay?"

Volga let out a deep sigh, nodding. "Fine, we'll go. It's just... Who will watch my little sister Sakura?"Sakura was a teenager, after all. She was going through phases, and not one day in his life has he left her alone at home by herself.

"I'll figure it out. If we can't find someone, then she can come with us I guess. I'm sure she would love reading the magazines." Ghirahim chuckled. He changed into his salmon button up top and dark jeans. "But we will need a date and time when you're not working or at school. I already finished but you couldn't." Ghirahim was right on that. Volga finished getting changed up and put his stuff into his locker. He placed the roller on the rack for it to be whisked away to Sheldon at the weapon shop.

Until next battle, he thought, setting his hand on the wall while Ghirahim sent in his N-Zap '85. "You ready to go, or do you want to do one more battle?" Volga asked, Ghirahim shaking his head. No more battling for the day.

The two walked out of their small room but then saw the duo women from last match. Volga snarled lowly but Ghirahim held him back. The one girl Ghirahim encountered had long, dark blue hair pulled into a loose ponytail, her turquoise eyes shining. Volga looked at the girl he encountered, seeing her hair also pinned into a ponytail, it being higher than her partner's and holding blue eyes with a hint of purple. Both wore almost similar outfits, the same top but different bottoms, one having on sweatpants that looked like yoga's and the other having on a skirt with leggings.

"Howdy there!" One of them greeted, going up to them. "That was a really good match! I hope we play again soon sometime." She smiled at Ghirahim while Volga pulled him back.

"We were just leaving." The red hair squid said. "I hope we don't get another match with you two again."

"And how come?" The blue eye girl stepped forward, her arms crossed over her chest. "Because I swiped you away? I'm sorry that a roller is sluggish."

"..I'm Fi! And that's Lana." The turquoise eye girl, Fi, said. "We just came to live here in the city!"

"I'm Ghirahim and that's Volga." Ghirahim chuckled softly. "We have been the champions of turf wars for the longest time until you decided to beat us." He said. "But do excuse Volga; he is quite hotheaded."

"I am so not!" Volga huffed. "You're the hot-headed one!" Volga rolled his eyes while Lana looked at him. He zipped his red jacket up and shoved his hands into his pockets. "Anyway, we need to be going. Like, RIGHT now."

Ghirahim exchanged his number to Fi. "If you need a 1v1, it would be fun," he said. "Just us two." He walked back to Volga's side, the duo leaving while the females watched them.

"Ghirahim is kinda nice," Fi admitted. "And you do have a small thing for bad boys."

"I so don't. And, Volga isn't bad, just hotheaded. Lets go catch a rank battle before the whole lobby fills." The girls quickly left while the boys walked out through the silver sliding doors and into the city of Inkopolis.
