I've been taking some time with these oneshots because I'm working on some things but thank you all for your patience and support.
Seong Gi-hun, player 456.
How could you ignore him? The happy aura that surrounded him. You wondered how he did so well to keep his composure, especially since he was with another four hundred and fifty-five strangers.
The way he seemed calm intrigued you. His demeanour was different.
Your attention focused on him as soon as you saw him on the monitors. He woke up confused and lost, which wasn't a surprise, but he had no fear, only confusion. Being one of the head supervisors of the monitor room was the best part of your job.
"Zoom in on player 456," You call out to one of the guards that were also a supervisor but had less authority than you.
In a second, the camera faces Seong Gi-hun, who was talking to Oh Il-nam, the head of the operation and your main boss.
Unfortunately, you couldn't hear what was said, meaning you couldn't hear Gi-hun's voice. However, you took this moment to admire his features. His dark, medium, messy, yet well-placed hair framed his face perfectly. The light in his eyes was fascinating.
"I apologise, but The Front Man has requested that you make your first appearance in front of the players," A voice knocks you out of your trance. You clear your throat, regrettably looking away from the screen.
This was your chance. You wanted to see him or at least catch a glimpse of him at each moment you could get. Plus, being part of the supervisors was a bonus, and you had a chance to see him in person even if he wouldn't notice you.
At this very moment, you were excited. You get to see player 456 up close. Before you leave, you insert a voice modifying chip to help cover up your natural voice and make you sound more intimidating.
"Let's go,"
...
"Remember, don't reveal your identity and don't answer questions unless your supervisor or I requested you to do so," You state seriously, standing in the middle of eight soldiers with circle masks on. They nod respectfully.
The large doors open, and you enter the large bedroom. A fight was happening, but your entrance stopped them from continuing as they watched you curiously.
As soon as you stop above the stairs, your eyes search for one specific player. When your eyes land on his figure, you feel your heart stop for a moment or was it nerves?
You stepped forward, looking at all four hundred and fifty-six players.
"I would like to extend a heartfelt welcome to you all. Everyone here will participate in six different games over six days, and those who win all six games wILL receive a handsome cash prize."
"And why should we believe that?" A man calls out. You inwardly roll your eyes. He didn't even let you finish.
"Y-you took all our stuff and out us to sleep coming here, and you brought us to this strange warehouse. Now you're saying you'll pay us if we go and play a few games?" He continues. Even though he has a valid point, you can't help but feel slightly annoyed at his curiosity.
"You really expect us to believe that?" He adds in. You sigh softly.
"We reluctantly took all those measures to maintain confidentiality as we brought you here. We'll return everything once the games are over,"
That's if they live through all of them.
"You all...you all have masks. Why are you seeing those things?" A female player chimes in. Of course, someone had to ask that.
"We do not disclose the faces and personal information of our staff to any of the participants. It's a measure we take to ensure fair games and confidentiality. Please understand," You try to sound as polite as possible.
"Well I don't believe you one bit, you for that?" You clench your jaw at this. "You tricked us. We were kidnapped,"
"You can make as many excuses as you want to make sure no one knows you broke the law here. Of you're going to make up for that, then we're gonna need something more,"
A man of greed.
This made sense. You though he was going to say something about lawsuits and reporting you all, but he wants money. On the other hand you were prepared for all sorts of questions especially the ones coming from the players.
As you gave information regarding the games and how it isn't illegal with a screen behind you which exposed their debt, your eyes drifted to the familiar face of Gi-hun. He had shock written all over him. The last thing you wanted him to feel, but it was no surprise that he must have felt anxious.
His hand raised, implying that he had a question.
"One question. If we win, just how much do we get?" You more than confidently stretch your hand out with a small remote and click a button causing an empty huge piggy bank to come down from the roof.
"Your prize money will be accumulated in her after every game. We will disclose the amount to everyone after the first game is over," You state. Each player had child-like wonder glowing in their eyes. Perhaps what you said tempted them.
You just knew that your attention would be on one player alone and you didn't are.
...
You were back in the large monitor room sitting in front of a computer. Luckily your position was in the far back where nosy eyes weren't watching you.
The Front Man was here, so you didn't need to watch over the other staff members and overlook everything. It was just you, your computer and Gi-hun.
A small smile made its way on your face when you saw him appear on the camera. He really had a bright smile.
When they entered the large room ready to play the next game. Red light. Green light. Your nerves skyrocketed. The hope was for him to make it through and survive all six games.
The game went well, mind the fact that there were dead bodies lying around and other players who screamed and ended up dead. Gi-hun was fearful. You could tell. All you wanted to do was to get down there and tell him everything would be fine. But you can't. It's against the rules. When the game was over you released a deep breath that you didn't know you were holding.
He made it.
Deep down you hoped he would win the games then perhaps you could introduce yourself.
...
It was disappointing. The players, Gi-hun included voted for the games to stop. You couldn't see him again. It's not big of a deal...right?
Who are you kidding, it is a big deal. However you are going to meet him, at least you needed to hear him talk to you or at least see him in person. Face to face. In arms reach.
That's exactly what you did. You managed to sneak away from the island with the help of a few trustworthy guards and you managed to get to Seoul where Gi-hun might be.
...
You found him. However, he was with your boss. There was no way you could approach him now. As long as you got a chance to see him out of the games, that was all you wanted. Plus you might come off like a complete weird creep if you spoke to him. If you ever had the chance to speak to him, what would you say? Hi? No that's just common.
While he was talking you noticed how stressed he seemed. Perhaps it was from what he experienced or from what he witnessed in the game Red light, Green light. The rain soaked him to the brim, luckily you were well hidden.
If only you could touch him.
"Hey what are you doing?" A voice startles you. You turn around and see a stranger who had an odd look on his face. Although you don't respond. This man needs no explanation.
"I should call the police on you," You furrow your eyebrows. Why in the world would he want to do that? With a shrug you turn back to what you were previously doing; watching Gi-hun.
A rough tug on your shoulder grabs your attention. It's the stranger who has a look of annoyance. Your face scrunches in confusion.
"You should be ashamed of yourself!" He yells at you. What is even happening? You're about to respond but a familiar voice beats you to it.
"Is everything fine?" Gi-hun. His smooth tone makes you gulp in nervousness. You hope he doesn't notice your possibly reddened cheeks.
"This creep over here was-" The stranger is cut off by Gi-hun raising his hand. Wow that's impressive. He silenced the man with a raise of his hand.
You looked around and noticed he wasn't with your boss Mr Oh. Thank goodness.
"Can you please explain to me what happened?" He turns to you making the strange huff in anger causing him to storm away. Gi-hun chuckles at this. It's interesting how he made a scene but can't finish it. Coward. The sound of him clearing his throat caught your attention. You flush in embarrassment.
"Uh..hm..what?" You say slowly trying to digest the fact that Gi-hun is actually speaking to you. His eyes flash with amusement. "Are you okay? That strange man seemed to be bothering you.." He purse his lips.
Gi-hun witnessed the commotion from a distance. He had no idea you were watching him but the strange man who was arguing with you seemed to be bothering you. Personally he doesn't enjoy seeing people placed in uncomfortable situations.
"I'm fine.." You whisper, hiding the shakiness in your tone. Actually, you weren't fine. The man you've been watching and hoping to interact with is actually speaking to you...willingly.
"Well, I'm sure he won't bother you again, it's not like you know him or anything," He informs you. "Are you hungry? I could get you something to eat," Gi-hun says out of the blue. You give him a tight smile and shake your head.
"Thank you, but I'm fine," You reply softly. It was a great feeling to know that Gi-hun would want to buy you something to eat, but you can't risk it as much as you wanted to sit and talk with him...you just couldn't.
"That's fine," He hides his slight disappointment. Then again he couldn't force you. You nod your head as a goodbye and leave the store. You already regret not taking his offer but it was dangerous. If he found out who you were or what your career was, the consequences would be severe. Rather, you would stick with what you always did. You will be there for him if he decided to rejoin the competition.
Keeping your distance, but always watching.
