CHAPTER 6.5

The evening air was cool as Alix, Julian, and Cassie stepped out of the small restaurant, their laughter mingling with the soft sounds of the city around them. They stood under the soft glow of a streetlight, and Julian took a sip from his juice, his face calm and content as he gazed out into the night.

The soft, soulful voice of a singer filled the air, drifting from the cozy restaurant nearby. The music was soothing, almost as if it had found its way to her heart, carrying the words with a quiet certainty. Alix's gaze lingered on Julian, his presence grounding her as the singer's voice swirled around them, and the words struck a chord deep inside her.

([Chorus: Conor Maynard]
Remember when I told you
No matter where I go
I'll never leave your side
You will never be alone)

The lyrics seemed to echo in the quiet of the night, and Alix felt an inexplicable pull, the connection between the words and her feelings for Julian becoming undeniable. She couldn't help but smile softly, lost in the harmony of the moment.

Alix found herself watching him, noticing how his hair ruffled slightly in the breeze. There was something strangely... refreshing about the way he looked, holding his drink with such innocent enjoyment. She couldn't help but smile, feeling unexpectedly at ease.

But then, Alix caught sight of a few women glancing Julian's way, their attention drawn to him in a way that Alix wasn't quite sure how to handle. A pang of irritation stirred inside her before she quickly pushed it aside. Do they have to look at him like that?

Just then, Julian's face turned a little pink as he caught one of their glances, and he shifted awkwardly, his fingers tightening around the cup in his hand. His eyes darted quickly from the women to his feet, clearly flustered.

Alix couldn't help but smile again. His reaction—so genuine and unguarded—made her feel oddly calm. She didn't know why, but it was like everything around them faded into the background as she watched him, her irritation replaced by something softer.

For a moment, she forgot where she was. She just stood there, her eyes on him, a serene smile fixed on her face as if frozen in place. The singer's soft voice drifted through the cool night air, and Alix felt the melody meld with the peaceful moment, as if the song was speaking directly to her heart. She lost herself in the soft rhythm, caught between her thoughts and Julian's presence.

(Remember that I told you
I'll find my way back home
[Verse 2: SHAUN]
조용히 잠든 방을 열어 기억을 꺼내 들어
부서진 시간 위에서 선명히 너는 떠올라
길 잃은 마음속에 널 가둔 채 살아
그만 그만)

The singer's sweet voice seemed to align perfectly with Alix's thoughts, pulling her deeper into the moment. Her mind drifted, peaceful and untethered, as if she were in a dream.

"Uh, Alix?" Cassie's voice broke into her thoughts. She didn't move. Cassie waved a hand in front of her face, but Alix remained statuesque, her expression unchanged.

"Alix?" Julian's voice, now laced with concern, sounded close. He moved closer, and she felt his presence right before his hand gently gripped her shoulder. "Are you okay?"

Alix blinked, the trance shattering as she suddenly registered Julian's face mere inches from hers. Her heart skipped. Panic surged through her chest.

Oh no.

She yelped and jerked back, stumbling right into Cassie, who barely managed to catch her.

"Whoa!" Cassie laughed, steadying her friend. "What's gotten into you?"

Alix's cheeks flushed as she quickly brushed herself off, trying to play it cool. "I, uh... just... got distracted," she muttered, avoiding Julian's wide-eyed, bemused expression. She cast Cassie a quick glare, daring her to say anything else.

Cassie just smirked, crossing her arms. "Sure, sure. Distracted, huh? Guess Julian's got that effect, doesn't he?"

Alix shot her an exasperated look, but beneath it all, her heart was still pounding from how close Julian had been. She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself, though she could still feel his gentle grip on her shoulders lingering in her mind. The memory of him standing so close made her pulse quicken, her thoughts more scattered than she wanted to admit.
